Description

You arrive at the spot and your gear is ready. Next step is to carry it to the water to start your session. The easiest way, and the one we recommend, is to carry your Wing with your hand downwind, take with the same hand the handle of your Board and then with the hand upwind you reach down to grab the Foil.
Another way to carry your gear is to pass the Foil over your shoulder and take the Wing with your hand to leeward.

Carrying your gear / option 1

Before carrying your gear, it is important to attach your different Leashes. Your wrist Leash for the Wing, and your belt or classic Leash for the Board.

First of all, turn your Wing over to put it in the right place (the extrado on top will prevent you from doing it later once in the water!). To do so, grab the central handle of the leading edge. With the help of one of the two other handles and the wind you come to leverage it.

Once the Wing is upside down, take it with the leeward hand by the central handle of the leading edge. Then position your Board so that the tail is in front of you and the Foil is upwind (i.e. downwind).

Position yourself between the Board and the Foil with the tail in front of your feet and then with the leeward hand, already carrying the wing, grab the handle of the Board. Depending on the size of your Board, you can grab it by the front straps for more comfort.

With the other hand, hold the Foil by the Fuselage or the Mast.

Which in order is : Wind > Foil > You > Board > Wing.

n this configuration you make sure you never snag the Foil on your Wing. Once you have everything in hand, you can head towards the water.

Helpful Hint:

  • Always have the Wing downwind of the Foil.

Carrying your gear / option 2

The other way to carry your gear is to put your Board on your shoulder. This is a technique used especially at the end of the session. With this configuration, it is your back that will carry the equipment and not your arms. Note that it is important to remove your Board Leash, especially if it has an ankle or knee strap. It can get caught in your feet and cause you to fall.

First, attach the Wing to your wrist with the Leash, and turn it over to put it in the right position (extrados above).

Once turned over, put it on the sand downwind of the Board. Put your Board down on the Foil and Nose.

You will then have : Wind > Board > You > Wing.

Pass the shoulder between the Foil and the Board at the box level to have the Board on your back and the Foil in front of you. With the arm, we grab the Foil to make sure that the Board doesn’t slip and we get up slowly.

Then you take the Wing with your hand downwind through the central handle and off you go! By carrying your Board this way, the mast will lean on your collarbone and tail it on your head, which can make this technique uncomfortable for some people. Once your feet are in the water, you can either continue with the Board on your back and pass through the foamy section if there is no big shorebreak and if your physique allows it. Otherwise, put down your equipment, install your Board Leash and take back the equipment according to the first technique.

Helpful Hints:

  • Always have the Wing downwind of the Foil.
  • Do not be attached to the Board Leash so that you are not hindered in your movements.
