GEAR: THE PULSE DP PHENOMENON EXPLAINED
The intensity of a full tilt speed run with incredible comfort is the feat of our freerace wing! Are you...
The Pulse throws stopwatches into turmoil in a stunning sailing comfort.
A wing that is extremely rigid, with a very locked draft and dynamic twist that acts like a real racing sail. You go very fast without effort, like a cambered windsurf sail, and you really feel the glide on long reaches.
The Pulse, a global bestseller in this program, arrives in this new edition equipped with a 100% carbon boom and a double profile!
The double profile is a revolution. Calibrated to 30% coverage in this Perf series version, this GONG innovation provides incredible glide without changing your riding habits, though using a harness is no longer optional.
In hand, the Pulse is like a blade. Its low dihedral gives it a hyper-stable and healthy behavior, allowing you to accelerate hard without getting overwhelmed, especially since the low-end is absolutely amazing.
Thanks to its construction with proven high-end materials and its 100% carbon boom, you get a light wing that brings dynamism and boosts its potential in transitions. You pump, jibe, and tack effortlessly with a wing that remains maneuverable. Its acceleration capability out of maneuvers propels you towards the next buoy.
With its ideally placed windows, you get optimal visibility for starts and confident jibe attacks.
Our new generation of double-profile wings can achieve performance comparable to kites and windsurfs, enabling high-speed evolution. The profile's leading edge has been reworked, as well as its morphing, to allow the wing to breathe better. The gain in upwind ability is astounding. Downwind, the profile handles much more wind speed and continues to pull forward. The top speed and accelerations are “multiplied”. You are really at full power and full speed!
If you love windsurf slalom and kitefoil reaches, you will adore this new Pulse!
The Pulse optimizes its magical Z-shaped central strut with a thinner diameter. The very thin central section with the boom is designed not to flex between the hands, as this is where a significant amount of flex that opens the trailing edge would form, which is consequently even more taut for more power and precision in the wing. This so-called "wasp waist" central section generates much less drag. This is noticeable during reaches but also in tacks. Beyond the weight savings, you can feel that the wing isn't pulled back by a large strut in the wind.
Regarding construction, the panels are cut perpendicularly to the strut to be more solid under high pressure. The connection with the new central segments of the leading edge is very firm. The rear third of the strut is sewn onto the canopy without any draft panel, which allows for an increased strut section near the back hand, providing greater resistance to deformation under wind pressure. The strut is therefore twice as rigid, ensuring a constant shape during accelerations or gusts.
The rear hand acts directly on closing the trailing edge thanks to the placement of the boom's rear point after the beginning of this wide cone: by pulling on the rear hand, you close the strut instead of letting it open like on classic struts. This overall design reduces flapping and offers impressive power. The increased rigidity allows for fine control of the wing and provides consistency in its behavior.

The outline of the Pulse is among the most streamlined in the range. Its high ratio offers increased glide and incredible top speed. As soon as you start flying, you accelerate immediately with strong forward traction but with great smoothness, always thanks to this glide.
It is easy to control, even in the worst gusts at very high speed. The feel on the boom translates into a lot of freedom in sheeting in and out. No need to force on the back hand.
This is the wing for riding comfortably powered, or for gliding like no other without having to be overpowered.

The straight leading edge of this wing and its slender aspect ratio, asserts its freerace behavior.
It acts like an axis of stability on which you can lean and that pulls you forward, like a true racing sail.
This is obvious when riding upwind where the wing is perfectly locked, letting you adjust your trajectory with gentle and fine steering. This is another contribution from its straight leading edge, precise steering with on/off control. The kind that’s so much fun to play with when pushing your absolute limit.

The twist of the tips is minimal but sufficient to release any excess power and convert it into glide.
The gradual yet complete reduction of the leading edge, thanks to the LDS system, allows the Pulse to breathe and accelerate continuously.
The power is directed forward, not into the arms.

The distribution of the leading edge is very uniform and maintains its short section in the center, making the wing very rigid in this area.
This consistency provides perfect control of the twisting, which increases gradually towards the tips.
The central part of the wing pulls while the tips absorb gusts, offering total control.

The thin profile of the Pulse is optimized for top speed, upwind performance, and control.
It has a huge operating range, with an upper limit that seems endless.
This profile is perfectly designed for high speeds and tight upwind angles.
Navigation is done with a harness. The Pulse is thin, but it pulls hard by maximizing the use of apparent wind. The more you accelerate, the more it pulls forward.
You are in control at all times because the Pulse stabilizes in the air like no other wing. You sit in the harness and ride without any stress.
This is a high-performance wing with no limits.

Technical sheet
Buying guide
Fitting into a Freerace program, it can be an early addition to your quiver since it is the least tricky navigation format compared to Freestyle and Wave riding.
It is not particularly technical to use, but a solid skill set is required to appreciate its qualities. Cruising at 30 knots is not exactly for beginners. ?
This is the fastest wing in our Perf range—what more is there to say!
If you love going for long runs, being full speed, heading upwind, cruising, or getting airborne, it excels at all these activities.
Obviously, its program is freerace/freeride. Its performance in surf/freestyle is not top-tier. ?
Plus: the wing for progression.
SuperPower: the powerful wing.
Pulse: the wing for racing and long distance.
Droïd: the wing for surf / freestyle.
Neutra: the perfect wing for waves and free-flying.

Don’t overestimate the power of wings. The reality is that for a 85kg winger, you need 15/20 knots with a 5m² to fly to get flying the first few times. After about 15 sessions, you will fly at 15 knots with a 5m². And if you’re athletic, pumping hard can make you take off at 12 knots in 5m² and hold the flight through 8 knots lulls. All this can be learned and requires practice.

The Pulse wing works with everything. Naturally, it pairs best with equipment dedicated to performance in racing or fast freeride.
A Racer will be the essential tool for your sessions, opening the doors to racing and high performance.
Among "classic" boards, the Mint offers the best takeoff with its incredible glide. It’s a great board, and less technical than the Racer.
A mast over 100 cm is essential to fully exploit the Pulse, ideally a Ypra or otherwise a Veloce.
You can (should) add to this combo a SUP and a surf foil for windless days, a kite to launch sky high, and surely a board dedicated to surfing good waves. But if you’re heading towards wing foiling, you may already have these toys in the garage ;)
A 5’5 to 8’wing leash will be ideal. Preferably a model dedicated to wing foiling and of the coiled type. A short leash allows you to get back on the board quickly. By letting the board go further, a long leash prevents contacts between the foil and the wing.
Check its condition before each session and change it every year. It’s your life jacket.
Don’t let your wing flap in the wind at the end of the leash, it’s not unbreakable! Ditto in the waves, do not hold your Wing by the leash, it will explode and/or you will get hurt.
When riding the Pulse, the harness is essential because it pulls really hard.
Riding without a harness is sexy because you feel free. You can move in all directions, it’s really nice.
But it is necessary to be slightly underpowered or to do short reaches if you do not want your arms to burn too quickly. This also means more pumping to take off.
All our wings have harness line attachments. So, the choice is yours.
So, if on the other hand, you like to ride with power, using a harness is almost mandatory if you don't want your sessions limited to one hour. In this case, attaching harness lines is super simple (see our tutorials on the forum). We recommend using a harness that is as flexible and non-restrictive as possible, with a minimalist hook or a windsurf-style hook for comfort.
Lines measuring 24 to 28 cm from the center strut to the bottom of the V will be perfect. A length of 30 to 32 cm makes it easier for beginners. Thin diameter cordage and a fine sheath are essential because windsurf lines, for example, are too heavy and stiff, making them dangerous during turns and other tricks.
So, it's up to you to decide if sensation and aesthetics take precedence over performance. However, more and more riders are using a harness as the trend moves towards more powerful wings and better performance.
Windowless wings are cheaper, 200g lighter and easier to store.
Wings with windows are safer, stiffer and more responsive.
For beginners, a wing with windows is essential because safety comes before the few grams you could save. They are not meant to admire the landscape: they allow you to see a silhouette leeward and to abort your turn to prevent a collision.

Equipments
This GONG boom is perfectly attached to your wing, without any play. It uses screws identical to those of your GONG foil.
The multiaxial assembly of carbon fibers provides impeccable rigidity to this boom.
It is also ultra strong, as evidenced by Team GONG's performance in one-handed receptions of 12m high jumps.
New semi-rigid textile downwind handle

Almost rigid, it significantly improves the piloting of the wing in freeflying and surfing.
The new oval seams and reinforcements on the downwind handle anchors better distribute the forces on the leading edge, enhancing durability.
The dyneema leash attachment is now on the lower side of the DW handle. The leash is no longer caught in the hands when freeflying.
Fast inflation with the One Pump system

The leading edge and central strut are connected by the One Pump for rapid inflation in one go. The clamp then blocks the air circulation between the bladders to guarantee the flotation of the wing in the event of damage to the central strut or leading edge. Essential for safety.
The inflation valve on the leading edge is doubled on the central strut for immediate deflation and compact storage. Still in one pump, you inflate from the leading edge only in a few seconds and deflate just as quickly by unscrewing the two valves.
Micro fiberglass battens

Micro fiberglass battens on the trailing edge: light and very effective against flapping. They perfectly maintain the profile up to the trailing edge to allow optimal flow.
Light and durable, they are easily replaceable if necessary to maintain your wing year after year.
Camera safety loops

To capture the best moments of your wing sessions, we have added a very discreet nylon leash loop to each tip to secure your camera mounted on the Flymount leading edge attachment and navigate without stress.
The position of the loop is carefully chosen so that the leash does not come into the camera's view! You will be able to create amazing shots and share them with no risk of losing your camera in the process!

With its 30% double profile, the Pulse Perf series remains easy to pump, providing a solid base of power that’s easy to feel.
This wing bases its performance on glide rather than raw power. It accelerates, so you need to pilot it (and the foil) precisely to make it glide and catch as much apparent wind as possible.
Once launched, it handles lulls effortlessly because the double profile creates almost endless acceleration, allowing you to approach lulls at maximum speed. You let it glide and connect to the next gust.
So, in light wind, the Pulse is perfectly suited for those who can make their equipment glide. If you prefer having a lot of power in your hands, you should consider the SuperPower.
The program is clearly freerace. You take off and race full speed at all angles.
The boom provides a highly "customizable" contact because you can really move your hands around with it.
With its short boom length, the Pulse is lively and maneuverable.
However, it is not a versatile wing. It's a wing for going fast.
The double profile (DP) is an innovation by GONG in wing design. Its performance is tremendous, and the benefits of a more aerodynamic profile are naturally understood.
Interestingly, on a wing more intended for the general public rather than for racing, the addition of a double profile paradoxically makes navigation easier by smoothing out the behavior of the wing. Fewer disturbances mean a much cleaner, more pleasant feel, even before considering performance.
Of course, the efficiency provided by a double profile is considerable, especially in low wind conditions.
Our double profile is open, so it does not retain water or sand.
Moreover, in the Perf Series range, the double profile covers 30% of the wing's total profile, compared to 50% on the Pulse Team Series. This lower internal profile reduces the drawbacks of this concept to make it accessible to everyone.
In our comprehensive range, we have various wings suited for light wind conditions. Depending on your conditions and skill level, you should lean towards one model over another.
Competing with friends remains a particularly fun game. There's no need to sign up for races to want to be the fastest.
And even if that's not your primary intention, riding equipment that glides very fast is an extreme climatic sensation. It's clear that there's always more to give and that we are the true limit.
This battle against our fears is incredibly exciting.
The recommended pressure is indicated in the table below:

Certain elements should be taken into account:
An under-inflated wing will be unstable and difficult to control in gusty winds.
An over-inflated wing increases the risk of explosion during a crash and will fatigue the seams and materials of your wing more quickly.
If you leave your wing inflated in the sun for a long period, we recommend slightly deflating it to reduce the risk of seam fatigue.
The larger the leading edge diameter, the greater the risk of explosion. Do not overinflate a very large wing.
To increase the longevity of your equipment, the way you use it and regular maintenance are very important.
A key point during use is not to leave your wing inflated for long periods without being used! The flapping of the fabric in the wind can cause premature wear of the materials, as well as prolonged exposure to UV rays.
Frequent rinsing of your wing with running water is also not recommended. The chlorine present in tap water can alter the surface treatments of your wing. However, it is important to store your wing dry and remove any excess sand.
In case of a broken batten or leading edge, use your repair kit, or consult our spare parts catalog to order the replacement part.
Systematically inspect the condition of your wing. Identify any holes or cuts and have them repaired before they worsen.
If you have damaged your wing, you can have it repaired directly at the GONG workshop by contacting our sail loft: Here.
