The coolest board to progress in wing foiling.

Presentation

The Lance offers a unique concept of short but very wide boards to learn wing foiling with ease on a really fun board.

With less than six feet long, the Lance is in the short boards range. This translates into an amazing comfort on land and for transport! On the water too as you don’t have that long nose in front of your feet that slows the board down. The Lance is responsive and reactive.

To maintain great stability, our major focus of attention was the width and the volume distribution. It’s been known for many years from windsurfing that width is the key element in comfort. It’s the width that will make your life easier and make the ride less physical. With the very wide width of the Lance, you have an amazing comfort. On your knees, the board doesn’t roll. It remains stable even in the chop.

Icing on the cake, this width will greatly facilitate the control of the foil at the beginning by keeping the board flat during the speed-up phases. You really feel safer with the foil under control.

Shape
Outline

Sufficient width and a perfectly distributed volume are essential to facilitate your life in wing foiling. It’s also what will get you off the ground early and without having to pump like crazy. In flight, the feeling is great: super lively and easy to handle. The short nose gives a lot of lightness. The stabilization of the foil in the air is natural. It’s easy to learn jibes and tacks in the air. And its absolute stability allows you to fall without exhausting yourself with every relaunch. It’s a real bonus at the start!

Rocker

Thanks to a flat rocker near the rear, glide is optimized. Take off is quick and easy. It’s perfect for light wind and to make the first flights.

Hull

The flat hull of the rear provides optimal water flow, allowing for maximum glide during ultra-easy and fast take off whatever your level. The double concave on the front channels the water flow and softens touchdowns, making them painless.

Rails

Straight and sharp rails at the tail provide the Lance 2024 with enhanced glide, reminiscent of a windsurf board. The sharp aspect contributes to increased glide, drive, and facilitates the take off phase. Why go sharp? The criteria have evolved with wings becoming much more powerful than in 2022. This transformation enables gliding before flying, even in low wind conditions, and facilitates the use of smaller foils. Front wing sizes have seen an average drop of 200cm2 to 500cm2 between 2021 and 2023/24. So, this paradigm shift necessitates a change in the design of shapes, transitioning from ‘we release the board from the water as quickly as possible by pumping onto the foil’ to ‘we plane before flying (allowing the use of a smaller foil)’. This trend is visible at high level with the scoring of repops and combos. In 2022 only 1 trick was scored per tack: only 1! In 2023, the introduction of combos, where two moves are seamlessly linked together, earned a perfect score of 10 points at the Leucate event. A total change.

Tail

A squash tail and a flat hull to generate more glide, to make take off easier and to provide stability when at a standstill. Perfect for the kneeling and standing phases before your first flights.

Nose

The double concave under the nose makes touchdowns completely painless. Instead of slowing down, the LANCE will bounce off the water and immediately take flight. This lack of penalty will make it easier for you to begin serenely and will make you progress even faster…

FSP 2X Technology

These boards are equipped with our innovative and high-end technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance compromise on the market. It’s quite simply the ultimate in custom vacuum fiberglass techno, as standard.

  • 3D shape on modeling software.
  • Preshape by numerical control for total reliability.
  • Shape control by traditional templates, finishing off the last mm 100% by hand.
  • 100 % epoxy resin and EPS foam blank: solid and lightweight.
  • Deck, hull, and rails in vacuumed PVC sandwich: incomparable solidity and incredible dynamism.
  • Deck: full PVC/fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Hull: full PVC/fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Specific foil reinforcements: high density PVC block that holds in the two US rail boxes. Four layers of carbon cover the boxes. The PVC block connects the boxes to the deck for great durability.
  • Carbon reinforcements of the strap inserts, under the heels and the trampling area.
  • Rails: the PVC sandwich structure completely covers the rails: increased structural strength, very good impact resistance (paddle, knee or harness hook hits).
  • Integrated GONG carrying handle in the PVC Sandwich : limits settling, avoids breakage in the surrounding area.
  • Resin tinted hot coat : nobility of the process, weight saving and solidity of the finish.
  • Hand-made matt “custom finish” for weight saving and a better glide.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

Whether you’re a beginner or just cruising, this is a hassle-free board. It’s smooth and easy, yet very efficient.

Its role is to make your life easier. So a pro will probably find it too big and gentle.

  • In wing foiling, the Lance is a super accessible board for a beginner, each size corresponds to a rider size or a desire for comfort.
  • In big volume it is easy for SUP foiling, but in small sizes it will be necessary to be in a good physical shape or to be light. And in any case, you need to be able to paddle straight on a very short board.

Why choose the Lance?

The Lance is a pure wing foiling board, short but very stable, 100% dedicated to progression.

Getting started in wing foiling has never been so easy and enjoyable!

What board size?

Beginners in wing foiling must absolutely have a positive volume balance.

Your weight plus the board’s weight must be less than the board’s volume.

Don’t hesitate to take some volume and width if you’re not sure of your support or not an athletic person.

To be comfortable, we recommend that you take a volume of around your weight + 30 = volume.

Examples for a 7kg board and different sizes:

  • 1/I weigh 50 kg + 30 = 80L to be easy. Which means that with a 105L 5’6 I would be very comfortable, but without excess. The minimum to float is: 50kg + 7kg = 57L.
  • 2/ I weigh 70 kg + 30 = 100L to be easy. Which means that with a 120L 5’7 I would be very comfortable, but without excess. The minimum to float is: 70kg + 7kg = 77L
  • 3/ I weigh 85 kg + 30 = 115L to be easy. Which means that with a 135L 5’8 I would be very comfortable but without excess. The minimum to float is: 85kg + 7kg = 92L.
  • 4/ I weigh 100kg + 30 = 130L to be easy. Which means that with a 150L 5’9 I would be comfortable but without excess. The minimum to float is: 100kg + 7kg = 107L.

In wing foiling, you can take a board with a generous volume if you are a beginner.

Equipments

ADS System

A FCS II box under the nose to clip a fin stops the drift. It’s really easier to hold a trajectory. And you can simply remove it without any tools. You are free to use it or not, depending on your needs. We love this little extra that makes it easier for you to get started before your first flights. You can sail relaxed, in 6/8 knots of wind, and work on maneuvers on the water before doing them in the air.

The set of footstraps is offered with the board. S 2023 we have reviewed the outline of our straps to further improve comfort. Developed for wing foiling, these straps with less cover do not bend when put on.

More rigid, they offer a more precise steering but are still as comfortable. There is less surface area on the feet so there is less risk of staying stuck in the straps or banging your foot on the edge of the strap when rushing into it. It also allows better leeward control (tip of the foot) and therefore a more natural attitude in wing foiling.
We have worked on every detail to improve your experience on the water.

The V-shaped footstraps perfectly center the foot on the front of the board. The position is thus more natural and allows direct and precise control in maneuvers.

Since 2023, our SCS system launched on the HIPE is integrated on all our foil boards. It’s beautiful, efficient and above all it saves time you can spend on the water. With its 4 entries, the GONG double entry box facilitates the assembly and adjustment of the foil. Performance without the hassle. We leave the nuts and the screws on the plate, just insert the foil, screw and off we go! Setting up the foil is much faster and easier. It is the plug and play solution which facilitates adjustments! (inserts not supplied with the board).

A handle developed by our R&D and our ergonomics engineer has been integrated into our boards this year. We can better close our hands in it: a firmer and more comfortable grip. The depressurization screw is directly integrated into the handle.

It is placed on the hull to allow one-handed carrying. You can have the wing and the paddle in the other hand to get past the whitewater or to get out of the water. And as we always do things seriously, the handle is placed in a block of hydrophobic PVC foam and covered with fiber.

The top-of-the-range 5mm thick hard brush integral pad provides maximum grip and comfort when sailing, while protecting the board from shocks. This year we have changed the grooving to provide even more comfort and more grip. This hard brush pad sublimates the board. This flat pad provides absolute comfort and a magical grip with more precision. This is obvious on long sessions: the feet are less tired.

The central front fin Anti Drift System axes the board as if it was on rails, but without ever hindering the ability to take angle in the curves.

Warning

When you practice foil you expose yourself to possible serious risks. A poor mastering of a foil can expose you to cuts and/or serious bodily harm, even death for yourself and possibly others around you.

Foiling should be practiced, in all circumstances, by taking precautions and taking into consideration all that is involved and associated with surf/SUP sports. Remember that a foil is long and has an edge that could cause slicing and is capable of reaching very high speeds. Getting hit by a foil, or hitting another, can have dramatic and highly unwanted consequences.

Always foil far from others, and in waters that are secure and without obstacle.

Always wear a helmet andprotective vest that assures floatability. Always wear a full body neoprene wetsuit.

When handling and manipulating a foil be careful not to cut yourself along its edges.

GONG does not accept and declines any and all responsibility in case of accident that implicates a GONG foil. The practicing of this sport and the use of our equipment makes the user fully responsable for his/her actions while being a foil user.
