Surf Pinta EPS

Program
The ultimate noserider for those seeking maneuverability and control in more powerful waves.
Presentation
The Pinta is a playful and dynamic version of the modernized traditional noserider concept, perfectly suited to consistent waves and steeper faces, while also offering strong responsiveness in weaker waves in addition to its nose-riding capabilities.
Located at the playful end of the Winstone / Misty range, it brings maneuverability and control in a classic shape optimized by EPS technology.
Its generous overall surface is well distributed, with a rounded pintail inspired by the modern pig trend. This tail configuration allows both tight turns and effective steep face handling in hollower waves. The rounded pintail therefore offers a double essential function: radicalizing turns with precision and effectively relieving the nose during descents in steep sections.
This specific tail ideally accumulates water when positioned at the nose, creating a powerful leverage effect that stabilizes and automatically lifts the nose of the board, ensuring optimal balance and a perfectly maintained line in the wave.
The very pronounced rocker at the rear is central to this shape. It naturally moderates speed at the nose to keep the board perfectly set in the wave pocket, thus maximizing time spent on the nose without slipping out of the pocket.
This pronounced rocker curve in the rear third naturally lifts the board above the trim line when at the nose, offering a permanent lift that perfectly balances the surfer’s weight at the nose. This pronounced rocker also increases the board's maneuverability, facilitating precise turns even with its significant surface.
The Pinta’s rails, true to traditional 50-50, provide especially smooth and fluid glide. However, the tail finish is sharp, with sharpened rails at the extreme rear to preserve glide despite the strong rocker curve and to optimize tight turns.
These boards are built with EPS technology for the best strength/responsiveness/weight ratio, highlighting all the shape’s technical qualities. This is the modern technology currently favored by the most technical surfers seeking top performance.
The Pinta catches waves early when paddling and maintains smooth glide in all conditions. It’s designed for surfers who want to explore a dynamic and playful noseriding format while fully mastering their lines in more powerful waves.
A perfect mix of endless nose rides and radical turns, it also allows for simply enjoying exceptional maneuverability without compromising nose stability. The Pinta represents the ideal balance between radicality and control in GONG’s line of reinvented classic noseriders.
Outline
The Pinta’s outline is extreme with strong pig style inspiration but with some width at the nose. The rear third retains volume but has a well-rounded pintail that tightens turns and relieves tension in steep sections. The outline curve is thus very marked in the rear quarter to reduce turning radii and add surface for tail pressure when at the generous nose.
The max width is moderate for a board of this volume to maintain excellent paddling.
Rocker
The Pinta’s rocker is very particular. It is very low at the nose and increases strongly toward the tail. It’s almost a top rocker given how much importance is placed on the Pinta’s ability to retain water at the tail to stay perfectly on your line and in the pocket, thus maximizing time on the nose. Of course, a flat nose and lifted tail boost glide at the nose and radicalize stalls and turns.

Buying guide
For whom?
The Pinta is for longboarders passionate about noseriding and retro style, seeking a board fully dedicated to that longboard niche. Its shape is designed to maximize time on the nose and stalled turns, offering a perfect balance between lift and fluidity.
It will suit both experienced longboarders and intermediate surfers looking to refine their style and progress in the updated classic log repertoire. The Pinta is not a versatile board or a radical modern longboard: it’s for those seeking ultra-stylish glide, clean lines, stalls, and flow on the nose.
For what?
This board is designed for long nose rides interrupted by sharp turns, with the goal of playing with the wave rather than performing modern maneuvers. Its wide pintail and tailored rocker allow the board to lock almost automatically on a line with surprising ease, ensuring perfect stability during noserides.
With the Pinta, everything is designed to match your surfing to the wave and extract its essence. It naturally finds the right line and lets the surfer focus on positioning and style, without struggle or loss of control.
What are the ideal waves?
The Pinta is shaped for small to medium waves, where it can express its full potential.
It excels in knee- to shoulder-high conditions, favoring long, soft waves that allow working the lines and maximizing nose time. It’s perfect for pointbreaks, slow beachbreaks, and clean-breaking spots without too much power.
It’s not made for heavy surf or overly fast conditions. Its shape prioritizes glide and control over radicalism.
What size?
What fins?
Fin choice plays a crucial role in the Pinta’s performance.
- A single fin (10” to 11”) is recommended, with a generous base to ensure maximum control and stability when noseriding. It may reduce speed and mobility though.
- A pivot-style fin will maintain line hold and lock the board under the nose if it’s over 10’’. It’ll offer more speed and freedom than a fin with full-length width.
- For more drive and slightly more playful surfing, a fin with some rake can be considered, but the spirit of the Pinta is more about restrained and elegant glide, not agility.
- A single fin setup is essential to stay true to the Pinta’s pure noserider program and to fully enjoy its unique flow.
