The super-compact noserider that boosts your level.

Presentation

Very easy paddling, longboard glide, and buoyancy to go fast in small conditions. The Gumball offers the smooth and gentle glide of a longboard but with a board that’s 2′ shorter.

Its wide tail provides immediate acceleration from takeoff, allowing you to plane and soar over sections; it’s a true plane. This buoyant tail allows you to perfectly shift your back foot just above the fins without stalling, which is key for maximum maneuverability.

Its round nose provides a lot of paddling comfort. It allows for easy noserides. By chaining top turns and cutbacks and finishing the last section with a nice nose ride, you have an extensive repertoire of maneuvers at your disposal.

It has almost as much volume as a modern longboard; the Gumball is ultra-compact, playful, and progressive, it’s the easy board that boosts your level. We appreciate the Gumball because it’s a great toy, super fun to surf in small to medium conditions.

Ideal Waves

  • Size: from almost nothing to man size.
  • Power: it performs best in “normal” waves. It’s an everyday board.
  • Aspect: it works everywhere but prefers smooth waves.

Shape
In a nutshell
  • Rocker: constant and moderate to generate maximum speed.
  • Rails: thin at the tail for maximum control, round and soft at the front to limit mistakes.
  • Volume: generous but not excessive, perfectly distributed throughout the length of the board for ultra-easy paddling and takeoff.
  • Outline: a wide squash tail for planing right from takeoff. A mid-section master for maneuverability. A round nose for paddling comfort and noseriding.
  • Tail: wide squash tail for generating speed quickly and easily.
  • Nose: round nose for buoyancy and smoothness.
  • Deck: domed to maintain thin rails and volume in the center.
  • Bottom: VDC at the tail for speed and rail-to-rail transition. Spoon at the nose for control during noserides.
  • Fins: thruster or quad.

Buying guide

For whom?

Placing yourself and taking off at the peak becomes simple because paddling is easy and take-off is very stable. It also forgives positioning approximations on the wave. Too far inside? Its natural speed allows catching up with the opening section. Or conversely, a bit too much on the shoulder? It will continue to glide. The Gumball will boost the level of a progressing beginner because it will smooth out mistakes and hesitant and approximate maneuvers.

Its glide easily compensates for a lack of technique to always maintain speed. You surf effortlessly, and especially ride the waves from start to finish.

A good surfer will start from the back and will enjoy its glide to cross the entire spot, from the peak to the final section. And even if there’s not much left at the end of the wave, you keep chaining maneuvers because you keep generating speed, it’s magical!

For a longboarder who had never dared to go below 9′, finding their marks on the Gumball is instant. You can surf like on a longboard, but much more dynamically.

The Gumball is an excellent option for a surfer who loves big boards but is looking for a travel-friendly, buoyant, easy-paddling, very fast board that moves well.

For what?

To have the glide of a longboard but with a board 2′ shorter. The Gumball is one of those boards that aim for acceleration. These are boards that will do the job of gaining speed for you. You just have to enjoy the carves and maneuvers. No more short and narrow boards that stop at the slightest mistake of pressure or when the wave slows down.

Apart from a 9′ longboard, few boards of the same length as the Gumball can compete in small waves. The glide of a longboard but with the maneuverability and speed of a shortboard. The Gumball will make your sessions fun!

What board size?

There is little difference within this range, which includes 4 very close sizes. So, we’ll play with volume depending on your build.

Ideal Waves?

  • Size: from almost nothing to a head high.
  • Power: it performs best in “normal” waves. It’s an everyday board.
  • Aspect: it works everywhere but prefers smooth waves.

Which technology?

We offer different technologies on some shapes to meet the program, conditions, and sometimes the habits of each surfer.

In the case of a PU board, it will behave differently from an EPS board of the same shape and weight. Because it’s the weight distribution in the board that generates a big difference in feeling.

For two cores with the same shape, one in PU and the other in EPS, the EPS core will be lighter, as EPS foam is less dense.
In the case of a PU board, it’s the core that provides strength and concentrates the weight in its core. So, the board has a very “central” inertia. This makes for a very smooth board, smoothing out mistakes but less dynamic. The PU core will be heavier than the EPS core.

In the case of an Epoxy board, the core is very light and strength comes from the skins. So, the inertia is “peripheral,” meaning the weight of the board being on the outside of the board, it becomes more mobile, more agile, more dynamic.

The best comparison to explain these differences would be to say that the PU’s inertia naturally gives a single fin feeling (very centered and smooth), while the EPS gives a trifin or even quad feeling (immediate rail-to-rail, maximum responsiveness).

We generally prefer EPS for boards that need dynamism, so most often in small to medium conditions, basically in waves where speed needs to be generated. EPS is therefore preferred for shapes where reactivity is sought, as it’s easier to turn quickly, perfect for waves that require fast sequences. For very good surfers, this allows even more dynamism in their surfing. For progressing surfers, EPS will add that little bit of dynamism because the board can gain speed much more easily, an important point knowing that in surfing, speed is the key to everything. We’ll prefer PU for high-performance shortboards, for boards where you simply need to control your speed.

Each surfer’s feelings: Surfers accustomed to PU will generally say that “EPS bounces and feels stiff”. Whereas surfers accustomed to EPS will say that “PU behaves softly, lacks rebound, and has trouble accelerating”. These feelings often come from habits but sometimes from generalities, and often from prejudices. Don’t hesitate to deviate from projected ideas to make your choice.

Which fin setup?

You have the choice between two setups, thruster or quad. The thruster is great on waves with little slope and relatively slow breaking, this setup allows you to “work” the wave more, chain turns, and transition from one rail to another more easily.

The quad setup will boost its natural speed, the board is very fast, and this fin configuration allows for perfect grip despite the volume, it’s perfect in fast sections. You can reduce the size of the rear fins to increase maneuverability, or conversely increase it if you want to gain drive in faster and deeper waves.

Which shape to choose?

Gumball or Acidolly?

These two models are compact longboards, but the choice will depend on the conditions and the surfing style of each. Do you surf more with glide or more with power? Are you gentle or powerful? Do you surf classic waves or soft waves? Those who identify with the first description will prefer the Acidolly, those who identify with the second will be part of the Gumball team!

A complete beginner surfer will be more interested in choosing an Acidolly 8′ or 8’4, the longer length is an advantage if you have hesitant paddling. At equal length, the Gumball remains easier because it’s more comfortable. Children will prefer the Acidolly, the width of the Gumball can hinder light builds.

Gumball or Batmob?

The shape of the Gumball is closer to that of a longboard, whether in its outline or its glide. The Batmob is a hybrid shape closer to a shortboard program. The Gumball will be much more efficient in small conditions, you can let it glide on autopilot, where it is necessary to “work” the Batmob more to get up to speed. Advantage therefore to the Gumball in small waves for its glide. The Batmob can, however, be more aggressive in its surfing, where the Gumball will be more round and gentle.

How to properly glue your pads?

The question of the pad often comes down to an aesthetic choice for the look of your board. But what seems like luxury to non-pros is actually a huge help.
If surfing is the art of placement then you need to put your feet properly on the board. And what better than a touch marker to know, ok, I’m at the sweet spot for this turn.?

Sticking good pads is therefore essential. They will signal to your feet whether they are in the perfect position or not.
You still have to stick them properly, and some get very creative…
