The Zero is the ultimate concept of a high performance longboard in a SUP version.

Presentation

When paddling, it starts off from nothing and from very far away. A pure rocket.

In surfing, its advanced maximum width gives it great stability in the curves. A long section of rail can be submerged to calm the board down when having excessive speed and in hollow waves.

The big surprise when you first ride this board is its speed and ability to turn short on the rails. We’re not on a cruisy SUP anymore. It’s all about surfing. It’s about wrapping S turns and hitting the lip with energy.

The board has such a reserve of energy that you can go very far in the moves without risking ruining the rest of the wave. It’s just funtastic!

Its nose is thin in the last thirty centimeters. The benefit is twofold: incredible maneuverability thanks to a lighter nose, with little inertia, but also less drag in the water when you’re at the nose so more speed and lift. It’s the ideal compromise.

If you are looking for committed surfing on a mobile and fast board that can handle all types of waves and in a modern longboard atmosphere, this Zero is the ultimate choice.

Shape
Nose

The Zero’s nose is wide enough to hold on long nose rides. But it is also quite pinched to handle very steep sections without pearling.

The advanced max width provides more lift on the front and helps you move around the board. There is a huge advantage in submerging a long length of rail in the curves. As a result we have a super stable board, even in fast waves. So you can push hard in it and drive it almost like a shortboard.

Tail

The round tail completely frees the board. It’s the most manoeuvrable tail in the world. You can feel the board ready to respond under your feet at the slightest of your intentions.

The round tail increases its capacity to wrap turns tenfold and allows you to go even more vertical in your turns. The advantage of the round tail is that you can use any section of the curve: from the rear you can turn very short and make the board pitch up from the tail; In front of the side fins you have a more stretched outline and therefore smoother turns. By distributing the balance of the front and rear footing, you have total freedom in the curves. The turn is shorter and the Zero goes even better in the hollow sections that it will exploit instead of being subjected to.

Rocker

This pure longboard rocker is relatively pronounced to provide smoothness. It allows you to wrap turns instead of stalling. We are really focused on curves, and not on stalls to cheat. This rocker naturally pushes the board into the curve, so all you have to do is to give the impulse and the Zero will follow.

Hull

The hull is particularly worked, in connection with all the other parameters.

  • A nice spoon on the nose to carry, lighten and stabilize.
  • The concave in the center of the board gives a lot of stability when paddling and accelerating in bottom turns.
  • The double concave in front of the side fins distributes water over these  fins dedicated to acceleration and creates a central V as a rail to rail tilting point.
  • Finally, the tail ends in a pronounced V to assert the rail to rail and free the board in the curves.

Rail

The rails are very soft in front and clearly typed shortboard from the max width. We are on a modern board that likes to surf with speed and liveliness.

The volume is carefully distributed with a dominant part just in front of the paddling feet to keep a fine tail and distribute the liters exactly where you need them. No worries about the thickness of the rails at this point as the domed deck plan erases the volume near the rails on this wide board.

Buying guide

For whom?

Clearly for longboard lovers. The Zero likes cross stepping and stylish attitudes.

But it will also love to go for some powerful carving. So, you either want to be radical with this board or you just want a super lively board that can be handled with less effort.

The lighter riders will love this board as a first SUP of a quiver.

The bigger guys will put it at the heart of a quiver with a range of use going from medium to big waves.

For what?

Longboards like long waves. They often need room to express themselves. That’s not the case for the Zero, who will certainly love long waves to display its ability to link turns, but it will also shred on the short waves that come its way.

Its extreme maneuverability for a longboard allows it to take advantage of almost all conditions.

Some will also love it for cheating. It can indeed be a fake longboard for those who want the glide of a longboard without ever feeling the need to lay the toes over the nose.

What size?

  • The 8’5 favors driving from the tail, with nose rides here and there. It is intended for lightweight surfers, 70kg max.
  • The 9’0 is suitable for everyone. It is the centerpiece of the range.
  • The 10’0 has the qualities of the 9’0 with this amplitude specific to the 10’.
  • The 12’0 is for aesthetes, lovers of beautiful lines, whether it is the waves, the curves or the board …

What Board bag?

Quiver partners?

The Zero will be perfect with a Neverstick or a big NFA for the low range.

It will also be perfectly complementary to an Alley for radical surfers.

On the other hand, it will be rather double with an NFA of its size or a Karmen which will try to perform in the same waves but with a different style.

It’s also the ideal board in the quiver of a surfer who wants a very handy SUP to complete his surfboard collection for microscopic waves. It would be a good partner in crime.

Which fin set-up?

The best fin set-up is a matter of style:

1/ For everyone: a single 7’’ or 8’’ fin with small longboard side fins: maximum maneuverability. We have a little less acceleration but the board fits perfectly in the curves that go for. It is magic.

2/ For the Pros : a single 6’’ fin with a lot of surface (like a trifin that would be bigger) combined with small side fins of the size that would be used for a trifin set-up. For example, a 6” GONG and two Toledos M side fins if your usual trifin is in L. With this set-up you will have a snappy board, on which you can push without limits in the curves. It will be safe and radical at the same time.

The 2 + 1 trifin of identical lengths is a good basis, especially on the 9’. Front of the center fin 4cm behind the tips of the side fins. A 2 + 1 Performer set is perfect. Take your recommended fin size or just above. Not less. You’re going to need some grip to use it.

Reminder of the FCS2 fin sizes recommended in trifin (three fins of identical size):

  • XS for less than 55 kg / 120 Lbs
  • S for 55 kg – 70 kg / 120 Lbs – 155 Lbs
  • M for 65 kg – 80 kg / 145 Lbs – 175 Lbs
  • L for 75 kg – 90 kg / 165 Lbs – 200 Lbs
  • XL for those over 85 kg / 190 Lbs

Note that before the shape, it is the material of the fins that makes the performance. Remember that the stiffer the fins, the better it works. Yes, a pro needs good fins, but an amateur also needs to go fast because speed is the basis of all maneuvers.

Never take shorter, unless you’re as light and precise as a cat.

A surfer who wants more speed, more beautiful curves, cleaner surfing, working on his speed gain, will take one size above the recommended size. Be careful because more surface on a large board gives a rather amorphous whole. Don’t go too big if you want to keep mobility.

In a setup that mixes sets, consider that the total surface area of your fins should always be the same. If you lengthen the center fin, you have to reduce the side fins. These provide grip and acceleration; and the center fin does the pivot and the drive.

The solution 1 is the most versatile on the 9″ and 10″ Zero. To optimize it, you can put 100mm side fins and mount a 7’’ or 8’’ Pivot, Clique, or Connect central fin.

Here is a reminder of the effects of the different association of 2+1 fins :

  • Side fins of 100mm +  Center of 6″: not enough drive, it’ll skid out alot.
  • Side fins of 100mm + Center of 7: ideal for a maximum of handling and freedom in the curves.
  • Side fins of 100mm + Center of 8: perfect management of the turns and good noserides.
  • Side fins of 100mm + Center of 9 : a lot of drive, probably too much.
  • Side fins of 100mm + Center of 10″: it’s too much unless you weigh 120 kg.

In 2 + 1, the front of the base of the central fin will be set 2cm behind the rear tip of the side fins. The setting offers the best handling. For more control, simply move the center fin 2cm by 2cm or take a center fin one inch deeper.

A single fin set-up is possible on the Zero, but it will calm the board and cause it to lose acceleration when pushing in the legs. It’s nice with the 12’, but below it’s questionable. Everyone will see according to their desires. No less than 9″ in any case as a single fin. And in a rather modern shape to keep up with the tempo of the board.

How long should your paddle be?

  • Between your height and your height + 5cm.
  • Some length on a 12’ is no luxury, but never more than + 8cm in the waves.
  • + 15cm for cruising.

Which leash?

Take the length of your board and a 10’ for the 12’. Under shoulder high waves, a reduced diameter (6mm) will make you gain a lot of speed. Above you must have a minimum of 7mm.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. This is your life jacket and should be treated as such

Equipments

The Zero FSP Pro are equipped with our premium 5mm thick 3D Function pad for maximum grip and comfort. This non-slip deck coating is “smart” as it provides different sensations in different parts of the deck, with grooves and openings designed for proprioception. Your feet are better positioned and informed of their exact positioning to give you a more precise surf.

An ergonomic carrying handle on the deck makes it easy to handle the board out of the water. It also allows you to get the board out of the water with only one hand, which is handy!

In addition, we set these boards up with an adjustable US box and two FCS 2 boxes. The anchoring is firm and therefore the most efficient and solid. It is simply the highest standard of fin box on the market. You can therefore set up your fins in 2 +1 or trifin according to your desires and your surfing style by accessing an almost endless catalog of top-of-the-range fins.

The pressure relief screw is automatic. It is made up of a waterproof membrane that allows air to pass through. It will handle the common variations in pressure between the outside and the inside of your board. The durability gain is considerable, without you having to worry about it.

The leash plug is indestructible as it is glued into the high density PVC sandwich of the deck. The guarantee of not losing your board in the rocks for example, nor of seeing water seep through the plug because the PVC is waterproof.
