Shape
One-strut design

The Unik features a single-strut design that is 30% lighter than other kites. This makes light-wind riding much easier while still providing sufficient power.

When crashed, the Unik retains its shape thanks to its central inflatable strut, which does not easily bend. This ensures quick and easy relaunch.

Hybrid C Shape

The Unik is a hybrid C-shape: a modern, dynamic design that delivers maximum performance while remaining simple and lightweight.

The turning radius is reduced. The kite is precise and lively, boosting both feel and performance. This balance between reactivity and profile stability allows for very reliable factory settings, giving a super clean bar feedback that enables effortless, precise, micrometric steering. Bar control remains direct, making you feel at one with the kite.

Short bridles

The new reduced-diameter bridles minimize drag while maintaining flawless mechanical characteristics. The kite is significantly sleeker in flight.

Your Unik also adapts to your feel thanks to the rear line adjustments.

The new short bridle system improves feedback and the feel is much more direct. Everything becomes more intuitive, keeping you in sync with your kite.

Reactive tips

The tips play a major role in the behavior of your kite. By combining perfectly distributed tension with precisely calculated tip twist, we have given the Unik the best responsiveness while maintaining maximum control.

Moderate ratio

The Unik’s moderate aspect ratio provides a very steady, predictable feel that allows you to progress without stress.

With this compact kite, you get the best balance between deep power and docility.

The kite’s power turns on even at low speeds, giving you a solid, supported feeling in the air. The feedback is clear and makes it easy to find your position. This linear power delivery is combined with a bridle system that allows for instant depower. Everything stays under control.

This low aspect ratio keeps the kite from flying too far forward in the wind window, avoiding all the issues linked to that tricky flight zone—especially in very light winds.

Everything about the Unik is designed to make you feel confident, to maximize your enjoyment, and to help you avoid hassle in 6 knots.

All these features combine to make you feel like you’ve known your kite inside out from your very first session.

Easy relaunch

The very curved leading edge and lightness of the Unik make it easier for the kite to rotate on the water and position itself on one tip of the kite to relaunch easily. You pull one rear line and it pivots. This feature is essential in certain conditions and when you decide to push the limits of light wind.

The kite is also perfectly capable of relaunching in reverse by pulling hard on both back lines: essential under 8 knots.

UPE Aramid revolution

A major development of the Team Series range lies in the revolutionary material of its inflatable structure.

UPE Aramid is the lightest and stiffest material on the market on selected axes. Depending on the angulation of the Aramid mesh, we control the stretching axes and release the rotation axes. This means that we have the possibility of reducing the diameters, and therefore the drag and the weight, for the same behavior. Of course our research focused on an optimal and diffused reduction to preserve the twisting qualities, which are essential to the design of a maneuverable kite, while locking the C of the shape.

The sensations in the hands are simply astonishing. The kite is both one of the stiffest and one of the lightest, while remaining incredibly maneuverable: a whole new experience of flight and precision/feeling. It’s simply incredible and perfectly in line with our desire to offer the best.

At 85g/m2 (2 times less than Dacron!), this UPE Aramid present on the leading edge and the struts ensures an unparalleled gain in reactivity.

In addition to its exceptional mechanical properties, this material also has a very low absorption rate. The kite gains very little weight when wet.And this material is also very resistant to tearing, an important point when launching on some sketchy spots.

Obviously, a superb material without perfect assembly is worthless, and we have worked in infinite detail to ensure the reliability of the technical solutions for its implementation. For this, we have tested all known assemblies on traction machines and innovated with new and exclusive assembly methods at GONG to surpass the standards. Our kites have never been so robust.

Better than gold !!!

Durable and super light construction.

This kite is built with the best materials available for a high-end kite, thanks to Aramid.

Our decades of experience in kiting, along with all the advancements made in wings, have allowed us to push the performance of our kites to an unprecedented level.

Aramid, combined with lab-tested stitching, offers the best in responsiveness, lightness, and material strength for the leading edge.

The unique feature of Aramid is that it doesn’t lock the shape of the kite. It’s ultra-light, with minimal stretch, but still allows for twist control by programming the fiber axis. This way, we get all the benefits of the best material without the downsides. The kite is lively, reactive, and does not delaminate.

The proven triple ripstop canopy, used for several years, offers perfect durability and strength at an ultra-light weight of 55g/m².

Strategically placed reinforcements ensure the durability of your gear:

  • Insigna on the leading edge in high-friction areas.
  • Tips reinforced with Dacron DP175LL and Nylon 1680D on the final sections of the leading edge.
  • Trailing edge made of Dacron DP175LL to resist long-term flapping.

Technical sheet

Kite Unik Aramid Team Series Aramid / 5 m² / Pink

Technical sheet:

  • Leading edge and strut in Aramid: rigid skeleton.

  • Trailing edge in DP175LL dacron for good snag resistance and better longevity in the wind.

  • Canopy in triple ripstop spinnaker cloth, ultra-resistant and dynamic.

  • Insigna reinforcements on the leading edge strategically placed for better durability.

  • Tip savers in 1680D nylon to protect the tips from abrasion.

  • Bridle in FL14 ROBLINE and connection in LIROS DC701: very thin, high-quality, and low-stretch.

  • 100% removable bridles for easy replacement of wear parts.

  • One Pump system for quick inflation and deflation.

  • Micro fiberglass battens on the trailing edge tips: lightweight and effective against wear.

Design details of this kite:

  • Single-strut design: very light, stable in high winds, easy to relaunch, and just as simple to handle as a classic 3-strut kite.

  • Hybrid C shape: modern design, stable, predictable, and dynamic. Projection coefficient: 68% (fairly open arc).

  • Moderate aspect ratio (4.5) with centered surface for solid low-end power and a healthy, linear feel throughout the wind window. Super stable at the zenith, very forgiving, and offers great lift, especially in jumps.

  • Centered surface for excellent low-end power and jump performance.

  • Forgiving profile for maximum stability in high winds and during piloting errors, while allowing great recovery in loops.

  • Moderate leading-edge diameter at the center (thanks to Aramid) for a fast, slim kite in the air, with more volume at the tips to maintain surface area and rigidity under heavy load or in strong winds.

  • Important draft for strong low-end power. Reduces the need to work the kite—less technical, less need to be overpowered. A smaller kite becomes more reactive, lighter, easier to relaunch, etc.

  • Freeride outline: curved leading edge for “automatic” relaunch. The kite can roll over on the water into a launch position with a gentle pull on a back line.

  • Segmented strut: stiffer at the connection with the leading edge, resulting in a crisp feel, more power for the same surface area, and better high-wind stability.

  • Large tip surface for excellent light-wind handling without needing to brake the kite.

  • Tip shape without internal twist: rotation driven mainly by tip surface, less by back line tension, keeping rotations fast without stalling—even in marginal winds (under 6/8 knots).

  • Set-back tips for ultra-precise bar feedback.

  • Light, section-adjusted canopy tension for optimized handling—more responsive (direct feel, no lag). Instant depower.

  • Consistent bar feedback: you always know where your kite is, thanks to steady, measured pressure. The kite is never “absent.” You can hold on to the bar without making big mistakes. This constant feedback prevents oversteering and errors.

  • Large depower range: wide wind range and safety. Real full power when sheeted in, real depower when sheeted out. This range is reassuring and comfortable.

  • Self-stable shape: moderate aspect ratio and deep canopy “catch” the wind. Set-back tips shift some weight rearward to prevent nosedives or stalls. The result is a predictable, safe kite for maximum security.

  • Short front-line bridles to avoid tangles in the tips and make the kite more responsive.

  • Isometric bridle triangulation: distributes load evenly across the arc for predictable, constant behavior.

  • Centered front-line bridle: constant pull through the harness.

Three rear-line attachment points: adjust responsiveness and bar feel to suit individual preferences.

And if you push it to the max, you’ll be surprised by what it can deliver: precise kite loops, impressive hang time, and jaw-dropping reactivity. It’s a truly efficient kite, supercharged by its lightness.

Understanding our kite range:

Display : the freeride kite for rapid progression.

Vertigo : high-performance kite for all disciplines from unhooked to surfing.

Ayto : the ultimate 5-strut kite for big air and kite loops.

Unik : lightweight mono-strut freeride kite for light wind, foiling, and waves.

Strutless : super light kite for light wind and freeride/freerace.

Strutless Revo : ultra-light and maneuverable kite for foiling and surfing.

Elips : the ultimate kite for waves.

What size?

Powerful and single-strut, it is of course a kite designed for light-wind riding. Far from being a limitation, it is actually a pleasure to fly a reassuring and easy-to-handle kite.

Bar size:

The choice of your bar size will have a direct impact on the overall feel of your kite. Remember that the longer your bar, the easier it will be to turn your kite. This detail is important when using larger kites, especially in very light wind, to maintain good responsiveness. The greater lever arm compensates for this natural loss of responsiveness.

Conversely, the smaller the kite, the faster it will turn! So, using a smaller bar allows you to balance behavior and soften the kite’s reactions. You must therefore take these parameters into account when choosing your bar size and adapt the handling to the feel you like and the conditions encountered.

  • If you’re looking for smooth, progressive handling, you should “undersize” your bar.

  • If you prefer fast, reactive handling, choose a larger bar.

The key size is the 52 cm bar. This is the most versatile bar, and the one to choose if you only want one bar for a quiver 7-9-12 or 8-11 or even 8-10-13.
When equipped with an extended kite quiver, the best is also to have a quiver of bars to keep a balanced feel when switching from a small kite to a larger one. Also note that having two bars cuts parts wear in half!

Here are our recommendations:

The above recommendations are based on the behavior of GONG kite wings. Since our bars are compatible with many kites, you can adapt the choice depending on the type of kite used.

Line length:

Your Feel-X bar comes standard with 80 cm pre-lines, 19 m lines, and 3 m extensions already mounted.
The standard setup is the most versatile and will be your best choice for 90% of your sessions. By adjusting its lengths, or even changing them with our extensions (sold separately), you boost its versatility even more!

  • 22 m lines: The “standard” length offers a more progressive and predictable bar feel (recommended setting for progressing kiters). Your wind window will be larger, thus offering more power at the start. This is the setting to favor in low and medium wind, and for everyday freeride use.

  • 19 m lines: Short lines offer a more direct response from the kite, which increases its reactivity. The wind window will be shorter. This is the perfect setting for advanced kiters, excellent in waves or foiling for more liveliness.

If you choose to ride with short lines, you will also gain comfort in high wind.

Note that 22 m and 19 m are not extreme line lengths and remain a fine-tuning adjustment to your handling feel.

Frequent questions
Does the Unik fly in 6 knots?

The Unik is particularly light, without sacrificing durability! With its pronounced arc, it stays in place at the zenith, without ever falling back. You can go into the water without risking it falling. A lull? A downloop and voila, it's back up at the zenith as if nothing happened. This behavior is great when you're foiling in less than 10 knots, for example. With a 3-strut kite, it's either technical or a hassle. With the Unik, it's a non-event because it stays in the air. The relaunch is also greatly facilitated by the weight gain and shape of the Unik. Finally, not only does it fly in less than 6 knots, but it's also super cool to pilot in light winds, chaining full-speed runs and crazy moves.

Is the Unik effective in strong winds?

Without a doubt, as long as you ask it to do what it loves. If you want to score the most extreme kite loops: no. But if you ask it to surf, with a magical glide, it will give you a sense of freedom with its lightness that many will love. It's not a kite that you'll ride at breakneck speeds, overloaded to the max. No, it's a kite that you fly cleanly, which gives you the ability to ride super smoothly. It's especially a kite that we love in light wind conditions. So, a small kite relative to the wind, which will give you incredible maneuverability. Its impeccable behavior makes it a very safe kite for riding in waves, even in strong winds.

Which freeride kite to choose?

In our extensive range, we have various "freeride" kites. Depending on your conditions and level, you should orient yourself towards one model rather than another.

  • Display: The quintessential freeride kite, it's the most versatile model regardless of your level and the conditions you encounter! With good low-end power and a stable 3-strut shape in strong winds, the Display has a very wide range of use, always with unparalleled ease of use! Intuitive freeriding, no matter the wind strength. Vertigo: Freeriding in high-performance mode! Like the Display and the Unik, the Vertigo allows you to have fun on any type of terrain. However, this kite, with its precise handling and constant pull, is favored for experienced kiters.
  • The Vertigo is fast, reacts very quickly, and provides an impressive boost in jumps. Freeriding, yes, but in overdrive mode!
  • Unik: Of course, it's a freeride kite, but it's developed to facilitate navigation in light or underpowered winds primarily. Its single-strut design offers impressive lightness and great stability across the entire wind window. You feel safe even in 10 knots of wind. If you frequently sail in a light wind spot and enjoy switching from twin-tip to surf to foil, this mode
What inflation pressure?

You should consider some elements:

  • An under-inflated kite will be unstable and difficult to control in gusty winds. Relaunching will also be more complicated with a kite that doesn't maintain its shape.
  • An over-inflated kite increases the risk of explosion during a crash and will fatigue the seams and materials of your kite more quickly.
  • If you keep your kite inflated in the sun for a long period, we recommend slightly deflating it to reduce the risk of seam fatigue.

kite with or without pulleys?

The Unik is a light and accessible kite. Its pulley-less bridle, like that of the Elips, gives it a very responsive behavior. In contrast, the presence of pulleys, as on the Display, would reduce the liveliness (or reactivity) of this kite.

We have therefore chosen a short bridle without pulleys. This type of simple, proven bridle offers control, forgiveness, and remains straightforward to limit wear.

Compatibility of bars?

The Unik has been developed to work with the FeelX bar. Our bar has 4 lines of equal lengths and a low V at the front. The attachments for the lines at the bridle level are: Kite-side loops for the front lines. Kite-side knots for the back lines.

How to maintain my kite equipment?

To increase the longevity of your kite equipment, the way you use it and its regular maintenance are crucial.

A key point during usage is not to leave your kite inflated for long periods without use! Flapping of the fabric in the wind can cause premature wear of the materials, as can prolonged exposure to UV rays.

Frequent rinsing of your kite with running water is also not recommended. The chlorine present in tap water can alter the surface treatments of your kite. However, it is advisable to store your kite dry and remove any excess sand.

Always rinse your bar with clean water to remove sand and salt. Also, remember to open the safety release mechanism to rinse its interior. Let it dry before reassembling.

In case of a pierced strut or leading edge, use your repair kit, or check our spare parts to order the replacement piece.

Systematically inspect the condition of your kite. Identify any holes or tears and have them repaired before they worsen.

If you have damaged your kite due to improper use, you can have it repaired directly at the GONG workshop.
