High aspect stabs dedicated to freestyle: pop, responsiveness and solidity ++.

Introduction

The Freestyle H Stab is unbeatable for its pop and responsiveness.
This high aspect stab maintains very high gliding speed but reduces the radius of the curve thanks to a front to rear span that’s 3cm to 9cm shorter: a key element for a solid pop and tight turns.

The shape of its intrado is very concave for stronger lift which helps in takeoff and in all low speed situations. The feeling of lift is firm despite its high aspect ratio.

The outline is concentrated with finer tips for incisive rail to rail. Thanks to a leading edge that’s curved and a slight omega shape on the trailing edge that creates a harmonious and centered outline surface, this stab is perfect in maneuverability: hardcore turns and committed pop.

On the longer chord in the center of the stab, we could add more thickness in the center (+1mm, it remains thin) to maintain an early take-off and add rail to rail. It turns perfectly around a central point.

All these parameters boost the solidity which was not an issue on our other models, but with a hardcore freestyle practice, it’s subjected to the ultimate test!

The rear portion of the fuselage integrated into the stab is sized specifically for each size of the Freestyle H stab for the best glide/solidity compromise. No risk of breakage in freestyle, even if you are world champion !

The rear portion of the fuselage is fused into the stab wing. It is ultra streamlined to reduce drag by 3. This fuselage design unleashes all the front wings of the range.

Once your foil is flying, this stab provides a sensational glide. A pro goes 3 to 5 knots faster in wing or kite foiling than with the classic version on an Alu V2 fuselage.

This slender back end of the fuselage is so efficient that it boosts handling by generating less drag. Its very small section next to the stab makes it much easier to drift and cut turns short.

The fillets connecting the fitting to the profile have been optimized for more glide. But they also prevent twisting for perfect rigidity. And thanks to the little extra thickness in the center, it’s even more solid.

Compatible only with the new Pro Fuselage to minimize weight and drag using a perfectly adjusted self-tightening trapezoidal fitting, and interchangeable without difficulty.

The Freestyle H Stabs in sizes 35 CM, 37 CM, 39 CM, 41 CM, 44 CM, 46 CM provides the highest level of performance.

A must have in freestyle for our World Champion Malo Guénolé.

Shape
High ratio

The very slender outline of this stab gives it a lot of finesse by greatly reducing the chord and the thickness of the profile. Performance is significantly improved since much less drag is generated, without losing lift at a constant surface. We even gain a little since the profile will fly faster overall, speed being the source of lift.

Outline

Its concentrated shape reduces the surface area of the tips to improve rail to rail and boost maneuverability. A thin cord at the tips and a wider cord in the center.

Profile thickness

The profile is thin at the tips and more generous in the center. With a strong concave in the intrado, it is perfect to take off and relaunch immediately after each trick.

Type of profile

The Freestyle H has a very hollow intrado in the center to boost its lift. This intrado with a significant hollow section in the rear third gives a great lift at all speeds. We take off early because it lifts more and it does not tend to dive.
The leading edge round is more sharp than on the other stabs of the range to reach a higher top speed. The acceleration is just crazy.

Camber

This stab has a slight negative camber with an almost constant downward curve that lowers the tips for less ventilation. Hooking is clear and very easy to feel, especially when you want to recover from a stall. The profile is further from the surface, especially in curves but with a moderate camber so as not to generate steering aberrations.

The placement of this lift point is constant throughout the range so as to always keep the same setting for the same behavior when changing wing size.

Fuselage

Shorter by 3cm to 9cm compared to a Fluid H, this stab is ultra reactive.

The rear fuselage section is proportioned to the surface of each stab for maximum rigidity/durability.

Only compatible with our new Pro fuselage in titanium or aluminum. The full carbon stab tail allows to optimize the shape of this part of the foil to reduce its drag and its weight. The rear portion of the fuselage is included in this stab. It is ultra streamlined to reduce the drag by 3. A true Pro fuselage that frees all the front wings of the range to gain 3 to 5 knots in top speed under the feet of a pro.
This back fuselage is so efficient that it boosts the handling by leaving less drag. Its very small section close to the stab allows to drift and close the curves much more easily.

The fitting/profile connection fillets have been optimized for more glide. But they also ensure the blocking of twisting for perfect rigidity.

The trapezoidal interlocking system with the Pro fuselage ensures perfect firmness of the assembly without the need for counter-screws. The whole thing gives a very nice foil, lightrigid and devilishly efficient!

Carbon HM Stab Technology

High Module Carbon offers unparalleled rigidity, representing the pinnacle of performance in our most advanced wings and masts, which face the most demanding structural constraints.

By combining High Module with Intermediate Module, we offer the best performance at the best price.

The products have no flex, the fibers are oriented along multiple axes to lock in bending and torsion, ensuring maximum responsiveness.

Thanks to pre-impregnated fibers, we can guarantee optimal resin usage, providing perfect cohesion at the lightest possible weight.

Each layer of carbon is carefully hand-assembled around a high-density hydrophobic foam core, in a steel mold. A central stiffener is integrated to increase rigidity without compromising on lightness.

The mold is then subjected to high pressure and heated to 150°C to solidify the carbon. The foam core, seeking to expand under the heat, ensures even compression between the carbon layers, ensuring a strong and durable structure.

Durability and repairability are at the heart of our development philosophy. Our foils are tested and proven by dozens of team riders, hundreds of employees, and thousands of customers worldwide. Even in case of damage, our products can be repaired multiple times, ensuring exceptional longevity.

Buying guide

For whom ?

It’s a high aspect stab for riders of a higher level that want maximum maneuverability and pop.

  • In surf foil, you need a good level to use this stab that has little lift when pumping and reacts to the slightest movement. Experts only but for them it’s off the hook!!!!
  • In wing, it’s an accessible stab but one that demands a decent level to get the best out of it. It’s really reactive.
  • In kite foil, it’s a technical stab that demands real piloting experience for it is super reactive.

In summary, you need a good technical background to take full advantage of this stab but it is within the reach of all experienced practitioners. This is especially true in larger sizes.

What for?

These stabs are designed to level up in freestyle, which signifies a lot more pop and a tighter turn radius.

  • In surf foil, you’ll be tightening up those turns and getting the most out of every pocket. This stab will pop hard. Ideal for airs but also in the take off and reception where the re-pop is needed most. It’s clearly the staffer back flips in the waves.
  • In wing, this stab will blow out the score sheet in freestyle, but also for a more radical surf.
  • In kite foil, it’s an aggressive stab for tricks, airs and a more radical surf approach.

Which size?

The Freestyle H stabs are quite technical because the re-pop is instantaneous and will be surprising in the beginning. But make your size choice the habitual as you would with GONG.

Always adjust the stab size to the front wing size for a balanced flight.

The 35 cm wingspan, 170 cm2, a thickness of 0,63 cm for a volume of 0,05L.

  • In surf foiling: less than 55kg in everyday waves but it is very technical.
  • In wing foiling: less than 60kg or very good level and/or strong wind.
  • In kite foiling: it’s great with a small front wing but very technical.

The 37 cm wingspan, 180 cm2, a thickness of 0,63 cm for a volume of  0,05L.

  • In surf foiling: less than 60kg in everyday waves but it is technical.
  • In wing foiling: less than 65kg or very good level and/or strong wind.
  • In kite foiling: it’s great with a small  front wing but technical.

The 39 cm in wingspan, 200 cm2, 0,66 cm in thickness with a volume at 0,06L.

  • In surf foil : under 65 kg in normal waves.
  • In wing : under 65 kg or with high skill level and/or strong winds.
  • In kite foil : It’s great but technical with a smaller front wing.

The 41 cm in wingspan, 215 cm2, 0,66 cm in thickness and a volume at 0,06 L.

  • In surf foil : under 85 kg or for heavier guys in strong waves.
  • In wing : under 85 kg or with decent skill level and/or strong wing. It’s easy enough.
  • In kite foil : It’s big so quite easy.

The 44 cm in wingspan, 230 cm2? 0,66 cm in thickness with a volume at 0,07 L

  • In surf foil : for bigger guys or to match with an XXL.
  • In wing : Easy for all and ideal in light winds.
  • In kite foil : It’s big but fun.

The is 46 cm in wingspan, 250 cm2? 0,7 cm in thickness with a volume at 0,08 L.

  • In surf foil : for bigger guys or to match with an XXL.
  • In wing : easy for all and ideal in light winds.
  • In kite foil : Too big.

When starting off a beach or dock start, we don’t particularly recommend these stabs that offer less planning capacity, but if so :

  • 35 : too small, to forget.
  • 37 : too small, to forget.
  • 39 : small technical stab.
  • 41 : small stab but has lift.
  • 44 : good lift and versatile, compatible with larger front wings.
  • 46 : tons of lift compatible with bigger front wings.

In DW, these stabs are out of the program.

Which quiver?

The Freestyle H Stab is ideal with technical boards with solid constructions like the FSP PRO, Lethal, Kube and Lemon

Positioning of the foil?

For beginners on GONG foils, place the plate in the rear third for surfing, SUP and kite, and in the middle of the US rails for wing foiling.

The further you move it, the more it pitches the board up. The more you move it back, the more the nose of the board dives.

With these high ratio stabs, we will probably have to move it forward as they carry very little. Do not put it too much forward eather, it would generate a weird feel and would in fact be a sign that your stab is too small. This could induce whistling of the foil despite a perfect trailing edge.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.
