The Stand-Up Paddle board for adventurous expeditions in extreme conditions.
Introduction
The Couine Marie Explorer Arctic is a very stable and reinforced board with a large carrying capacity.
This board is perfect for very long expeditions in autonomy in extreme conditions. It was specifically developed at the request of our ambassador Ingrid Ulrich, for her long SUP expeditions in the icy waters of Greenland.
Its dimensions have therefore been designed to offer a very generous format. With its 14’ long by 34 wide and its 570L, it can carry equipment at the front and at the back. It remains super stable and maintains easy paddling and a good glide thanks to its profiled nose.

GLOBAL
This shape is made for adventure. Its taut lines are designed to promote paddling speed and comfort. It is a clever adaptation of the thousands of templates that we have developed over the past 30 years that allows us to have such efficient and facilitating behavior.
In cruising, we appreciate its glide specific to inflatable boards, all in fluidity. Thanks to its volume and large width, this shape offers great paddling comfort, which is essential for long excursions. If you want to pick up the pace, its contoured nose will accelerate with ease. In more difficult conditions, its raised and slender nose allows the choppy water to flow calmly like a bow. The outline with its round tail is very buoyant, it accepts positioning errors and allows you to turn without forcing.
Manufactured in the best factory in the world, with triple layer technology (two welded), equipped with all the high-end accessories, with a superb design, the Couine Marie Explorer Arctic is a very beautiful board, and unique in its kind.
The Couine Marie Explorer Arctic is a very specific product and therefore available in limited stocks. To order multiple units, please contact our customer service to initiate dedicated production.
Rocker: almost constant and nose up. Quick and easy rowing.
Rails: by nature, soft and round all along, which provides a very fluid glide.
Volume: the ideal thickness to offer generous volume and rigidity.
Outline: an easy round tail, very stable in the center with a thinner nose for cutting through the chop.
Tail: easy and soft round tail to turn without forcing.
Nose: point nose for rowing speed.
Double chamber & triple PVC layer
Its 8 thickness offers volume and height to keep your feet dry: a significant plus when rowing in icy waters among icebergs. Just like the classic Explorer models in the Couine Marie range, the Arctic is equipped with a double chamber. A real asset for long expeditions, it provides rigidity and safety. The double chamber allows you to have a floating reserve in the event of damage to the main chamber. If you are equipped with the mandatory safety equipment, you will be allowed to paddle outside the 300m zone.
A third layer of PVC has been added to the hull to add even more resistance in ice environments or in rivers. A strategic point for traveling with confidence over long distances in remote places.
The colors are not chosen at random either. In addition to blue, which recalls the color of glaciers, flashy orange was chosen for its high visibility. It is a real additional safety element present on the most visible parts of the board.
Multiple poignées
The multiple handles make handling the board and its load as simple as possible. There are firm handles all around the board to dock, take the board out of the water, load it into a boat, go through a lock, etc.

Buying guide
For whom?
For those who want to set off on an adventure.
For what?
For a cruise, more cruising and a whole lotta cruising. Of course, this Couine Marie will take you everywhere. In nice little cruising or expedition mode, the CM Explorer Arctic is just great because of its comfortable width combined with a real fast shape.
Even if anything is possible, we list here the main uses:
The 14′ Explorer Arctic
- Outings of more than one hour on all water bodies. Perfect to go on an adventure.
- Rider size: Very easy for everyone. No stress.
Best quiver choices?
As it is designed for long expeditions, the paddling comfort on this board is essential. We therefore recommend at least a 100% Carbon Mix paddle cut to the right size. The must-have remains the Carbon Pro paddle which will be even lighter. Every gram gained is precious when you plan to paddle for hours or even entire days!
For better trajectory stability and limited row effect, an upgrade of the plastic fin with a high-end fiberglass and carbon fin GONG FIN US RED HONEYCOMB RACE 9.5″ 240mm is recommended.
In any case, for a long expedition we recommend that you bring duplicate equipment for safety.
What length of paddle?
The way you paddle, your stance and the frequency at which you paddle will depend on your program. You will need a longer paddle for touring for multiple hours, while you would need a shorter paddle for surfing in order to facilitate quick and strong paddle strokes to catch a wave. Take your time to pick the right length/setting for your paddle, because it will help give you the stability and performance you will need.
Examples:
For a 100% surfing session, set your paddle between your waist and +10cm.
For more relaxed surfing, a +10cm paddle will be perfect.
For a ride, set your paddle between +10 and +20cm.
Which leash?
Good to know:
Never leave your board in the sun, let alone an inflatable board which will heat up very quickly. You risk seeing it peel off because the materials it is made of become flexible in the heat. Never store it under a car window, or in contact with a heat source.
Never let your board get roughed up in the waves, especially when you’re close to the beach. You have to protect it from major strains. A wave that takes your board and rolls it can do damage.
Do not hold it by the leash indefinitely because it can give way under very high tension. Avoid big waves and don’t resist. If it breaks, it’s easy to change but annoying.
Stay away from oysters: this is one of the few seashells that can cut your board and sink it in seconds. Be careful +++
Don’t let your inflatable board rub on something for a long time. It can happen on a boat, for example, that your board moves with each wave and rubs for hours in the same place. The material will disintegrate because it will be as sanded. You will have a hole that will need to be covered with a patch.
Never put the board between the wave and you: risk of a broken nose type injury ?
Do not paddle far at sea with an offshore wind, and avoid windy outings as it is rarely fun and always dangerous. SUP is an activity that involves real risks, even in seemingly peaceful conditions. Always anticipate these risks and protect yourself.
This very specific board must be used in an absolutely secure environment. Adventures are not a game. They must be the result of immense experience and careful preparation. We invite you to use the Couine Marie Explorer Arctic with all possible precautions so that your outings end well and without putting yourself or others in danger.
Equipments
Our Couine Marie range is the Full Options version of inflatable boards, the very best out there.
The Couine Marie EXPLORER ARCTIC comes with a US central fin because the objective of the Couine Marie range is to have a high performance SUP. When we know that the fin makes 50% of the performance of a board, GONG had to come up with a relevant solution. This is why our inflatable SUPs offer a US box for the center fin. Thus, you will have access to the largest standard on the high-end fin market. A huge choice of fins to adapt according to your level, your practice and the conditions.
It is equipped with all the high-end accessories:
- a central padded handle in soft neoprene;
- ergonomic silicone racing carrying handles;
- handles on the nose and tail to carry with someone else;
- our ELS feature for very simply and firmly attaching bags / bottles etc. to your board;
- a fin with a quality shape and a US box compatible with all the best fins;
It is equipped with 11 carrying handles for easy grip:
- A central foam handle.
- 8 ergonomic silicone peripheral handles with integrated rings which allow you to get past the whitewater by pulling the board, or to get out of the water by dragging the board on the water.
- Ergonomic front and rear silicone handles make it easier to launch and handle the board in the water and on land. Really practical!
The Couine Marie SUP boards are now equipped with our ELS feature (Extendable Load System). These adjustable, elastic and aesthetic straps have been specially designed to allow you to easily install all your equipment on board.
We have made using the ELS system extremely easy and intuitive. The elastic straps are easy to adjust. No more struggle to slip (sometimes in vain) your bag under the bungee cords at the risk of crushing your stuff. Simply loosen the straps, install your gear, and retighten them to perfectly fix your load. 3 parts of the board are dedicated to loading equipment and equipped with ELS straps. In front of the feet, behind the feet to possibly install a cooler and be able to sit on it and completely at the back of the board.
Our ELS feature simplifies your life and saves you precious time while bringing a touch of style and modernity to your board!
All side handles are equipped with rings to better secure equipment if necessary.
The large diameter leash ring is the strongest on the market. And we’ve added a towing ring for safety, but also because it’s really handy to have an attachment point on the nose during transport, at anchor, or to secure a camera.
The supplied double-action inflation pump is super efficient to be the first in the water.
A repair kit is also included in the event of damage (note the kit is delivered without glue which you will easily find in your DIY store). Note that we have the components of your board in stock in order to repair it fairly easily.
