WATER START

To make a water start in deep water, two important points must be taken into account.

The first is to have enough depth to sink the foil without touching the bottom.

The second is to make sure you have enough wind as you will need power to pull yourself out of the water.

The third point is to think about staying crouched whilst you find the right balance to control the board.

In this video, we see Mathieu, equipped with his 4’8 HIPE (48 liters) showing us step by step how to make a water start.

Water start

  • Put the wing in the right direction.
  • Sink the board vertically on its side. Get your feet in the straps and stay crouched the time to find the right balance.
  • Get the riding handles of the wing in your hands and lift it above you and sheet it in progressively.
  • Use the vertical traction of the wing to extract yourself from the water.
  • Pump the foil to take-off.

Key points

  • Dose the wings power.
  • Keep your hands in the vertical axe to keep the wing in umbrella position (not in screen shield).
  • You need enough wind.
