TEAM NEWS: NATANIEL BARROS JOINS THE TEAM
Another young talent from Cape Verde joins Airton Cozzolino at GONG.
Welcome to the Team Nataniel! How would you introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello, my name is Nataniel Barros. I’m 21 years old, from Ilha do Sal in Cape Verde. I’m a kitesurf athlete, and I’m ready to represent my country wherever I go. I started surfing with my brother at the age of 12, and that’s where my passion for watersports began. I discovered kitesurfing just three years ago, and now I’m qualified on the Tour with my idols. It’s crazy!
How come there’s so much talent in Cape Verde?
We’re very passionate people and the conditions here are amazing. I’m really lucky to call Ponta Preta my home spot. I also train a lot at Kite Beach on the other side of the island. We have strong winds, great waves, and Ponta Preta has my heart!
What is a perfect day in the water like for you?
A perfect day would be having the right conditions to kite and completing all my planned maneuvers, making them more refined and impactful session after session. My favorite sessions are in the waves because I know I perform well there, and it brings more adrenaline.
What motivated you to join the GONG team?
I always believed I had the potential to be part of this family. Representing GONG on the GKA is very important to me. I’m also really excited about the new gear. I feel right at home riding my new Chemical HDCC 5’6.
Who is your greatest influence in the sport?
My biggest influences in kitesurfing are Mitu Monteiro and Airton Cozzolino. I’m inspired by them, and I’m super happy to now be joining Airton on the team. This means a lot to me.
What is your goal now that you’re on Tour?
To progress, give my best, be recognized for my effort, earn my place in kitesurfing, and represent my team in the best way possible. I’m training hard on many maneuvers and hope to showcase them soon in competition.
When is your next competition?
My season will start at home in 2026, here at the GKA in Ponta Preta. I can’t wait!
