Our team rider shares first place with the championship leaders at the end of the first day of competition in Brazil!
Fresh off his second consecutive title on the Freefly-Slalom tour, where he shared a historic podium with his teammates Julien Rattotti and Bastien Escofet, Italian Francesco Cappuzzo has immediately followed up with a race win on the Wing Foil Racing tour, which also concludes in Brazil, at the Jericoacoara spot from December 3 to 7.

Most competitors have been there for several weeks and experienced winds between 25 and 30 knots day in and day out but yesterday was another story with the anemometer showing only 13 to 15 knots at the start of the first day. The conditions on the water were even lighter, as Francesco explains:
“I chose the 6.5 m² wing, and it was the right decision. The first two races were held in a fairly inconsistent breeze. We really had to work hard and keep pumping the board continuously. It was tough on the legs and the mind, and I completely missed my three starts today, so I had to push hard to catch up in the races.”
Luckily, the first day was focused on long-distance races, so a poor start wasn’t as critical. With excellent speed, the Italian caught up with his competitors and won the first heat ahead of his teammates Julien, in second, and Bastien, in fourth. In the second and third heats, Francesco continued to perform well, securing a strong second place and a third to conclude the day tied at the top of the leaderboard with Mathis Ghio and Kamil Manowiecki.
