Challenging conditions marked the 5th World Cup event of the 2025 Wing Foil Racing season.
Seventy competitors from twelve countries came together for the Wing Foil Racing World Cup China, held on Daishan Island at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
With 500 points on the line, riders were eager to perform at their best in an extremely competitive field. Strong tidal currents and very light winds on day one pushed competitors to their limits. Their physical condition was tested as well, with wind lulls forcing riders to pump intensely to keep pace. At the end of the opening day, it was Poland’s Kamil Manowiecki who led the pack, with GONG Team Riders Bastien and Francesco staying in close contact within a tightly contested top 10.

Qualification Day
The results of day one set up promising battles in the qualification round for the Gold Fleet. Current world number 3, Francesco Cappuzzo, had a strong day, posting finishes of 1-1-2-2-3-3, which put him back in contention for the top spots on finals day. His teammate Bastien Escofet performed even better, climbing to 5th overall heading into the finals.
Unfortunately, no races were run on finals day due to the lack of wind, cutting short what was set to be an epic showdown among the event’s best. This meant that the current leaders, Poland’s Kamil Manowiecki and Italy’s Maddalena Spanu, took home the winner’s trophies.
What’s Next?
The next stop is Sardinia, in Cagliari, from September 23rd to 28th, where Italian champions and GONG Team Riders Charlie Barruzzi and Francesco Cappuzzo will be ready to make their mark.
