QUESTION : tow or no tow ?
The question of the towsurf and its bad effects is in the air since years. Progress in the giant waves was spectacular thanks to this assistance and it is great for the sport.
But of the concern exist nevertheless. But when it is question of the potential bad effects of the SUP in the peaks, SUPers are increasingly numerous going to charge massive waves. Indeed, the SUP makes it possible to take off very early in the swell and to control on the face thanks to the paddle. This SUPsurf way of charging is pure, powerful and requires an incredible personal investment, in particular during wipe outs!!!!
The cohabitation between these two approaches thus generates frictions. Some are due to the search of the most beautiful wave. Others are less fair play!
For example, this session of Davos in 911 100% paddle, it was poluted by numerous wipe outs dues to jet ski going super fast and too much closer to him, like if he doesn’t exist!!! Not very nice guys.
So, do we have to stop tow surf under 4m waves? Do we have to do SUP only in 50 cm waves maximum??? Once again, the problem is in the riders not in the activity. So, respect the others! Each one has the right to play but it is necessary to share and not to be an asshole just for fun.
This behavior doesn’t have place at the peak. This applies to the SUP as for tow, surfing, bodyboarding…
Remember, to fall in tow in 3m does not have the same consequences that in SUP, so respect please.
