HOW TO : choose your leash !!!

How to choose the right Leash ? 1- Its length should match that of your Board. To short and it is an inhibitor. One must also think about having a comfortable margin so you can dance freely up towards the Nose. 2- Cord Diameter : 5/6/7/8mm ? Surfing small waves it’s best to have a thinner Leash, at least a 6mm, It will help you with speed. With faster heavier waves or over shoulder high, it’s best to be around 7mm for resistance against the pull. Note : use the thicker diameters when Foiling to avoid slicing by the Foil. 3- Type of connection : Ankle or Knee. This gets personal. In the beginning there were only Ankle Leashes available. But for those who like to get kinky on a Longboard the Knee attachment has become the defining moment to create style. They Pull less on your leg and create less irritations. It also allows you to reach for and grab the cord quicker enabling you to get back on you board faster making it less stressful to get ahold of a large volume board in between incoming waves ;). To resume, for your Shortboard the ankle attachment is your only option, the Knee attachment is what is recommended for Longboards but optional and is also very SUP User Friendly. For SUP Cruising you may use whichever attachment you choose.
Do not forget that for your own security and that of others, it is Imperative that your Leash be changed yearly due to use and if it shows tiny fracture signs. Advisor : Patrice Guénolé et GONG Surfboards. Source : Team GONG SUP and Surf, choose well your leash.
