FORUM : SUP ou longboard !!!

Hello,
If we must compare SUP Longboarding with that of Surf Longboarding the SUP will win hands down with concern to performance in small waves. She’s less alive in the turns but not much. On the other hand it blows Longboards out of the water when noseriding. In fact not only does the SUP carry better when noseriding due its dimensions, but the Paddle helps smooth out the attitude while on the nose by giving you an easy support. We are more stable and can find stronger angles when carving. And it is flagrant with a drop knee turn and cut backs.
Because of its volume, the SUP will give wider turning radius which will give it a clear advantage over a Surf Longboard when the waves start pumping. Paddling speed is slightly better on SUP, but not much. And the overall view of the spot is better on a SUP, that’s for sure. Getting over the bar is much easier on a traditional surf on the other hand. The preponderant choice remains : the Feeling!!! – On a SUP. 1/ we row with a Paddle : certain people love this technique, the object, and the millennial tradition that it conveys. 2/ we no longer have at hand separate segments. Our feet and our hands are fully occupied. Worse : the hands are engaged together and indissociable ; which induces a locked in gesture because the shoulders are no longer free. Inversely, we will accentuate the actions of the feet due to using the Paddle and digging and using it as a support. So the upper segments maximize the action by splitting that of the feet. – In Surfing : 1/ we paddle with our hands : it’s classic, it’s tiring but has a ton of fantastic sensations. Being in a low prone position avoids losing balance and allows you to get into the steep and deep and dropping a rail at the last minute (which could be delicate and/or suicidal on a SUP). 2/ we have two free segments : your arms are free to roam about. So they have a purpose within keeping balance and action by prolonging actions. Quite often the arm will anticipate the effect of the action (in the future) while the other arm stabilizes an action (that has passed). In Sup the arms are fully engaged in the now and present actions. When we compare vision, paddling and segments we have a fine and objective analysis of the strengths of both of these approaches which we could qualify as false twins being that they are close in nature but very distinct. Time for you to play. Advisor : Patrice Guénolé et GONG Surfboards. Source : Team GONG SUP and Surf, make your choice.
