FORUM : ABOUT WING FOIL GEAR !!!
Our Forum is an essential platform that allows us to have an exchange with you and give you the advice you need before you purchase your equipment. Here’s an exchange between Laurent and L’Ours about Wingfoil gear to get you started.
Laurent: I weigh 60/62 kg for 1,85m and I’m sportive. Which size of Foil should I choose : M, L or XL. Isn’t the XL likely to be a bit big, even in Wing in light wind?
L’Ours: For the foil size, the XL will be an essential step. Eventually, in a few months/years, you might want a bigger foil in the L or M for example. But in the beginning the smaller Wings can handicap your progression.
The huge advantage of the Wing is to be what Kiting lacks like for what the SUP is to surf : zero frustration, zero frustration, fabulous performance in poor conditions, easy beginnings.
Remember that.
So as in SUP I don’t see the point of getting into trouble, if not surfing, then I have the same position on the Wing: go for the mellow and aim for pleasure. You’ll see that in the end you’ll be better than if you had put yourself under pressure from the beginning.
Laurent: For the Wing I’m thinking of the Zuma 6.0 pack with a 5 m2 Wing Plus and a 7 m2 Pulse for light wind (10-15 knots) ? Is the 7 m2 Pulse sufficient for 12/13 knots given my weight of 62 kg?
L’Ours: Concerning the Pulse 7m2 in 12/13 knots, you will see on the picture below that I fly my 100kg in very little air with the combo we are talking about. But let’s not dream too much : you have to know how to pump on the Foil and use the Wing, and at the same time. So it won’t be for the beginning.
At first you’ll love your 5m2 in 20/25 knots, and your 7m2 in 15/20 knots. And after a few sessions you’ll see that your wind ranges will have gained 5 knots downwind. As if by magic.

Bonnes nav…
Bonne journée
Hi folks,
I’m wondering if anyone uses the XXL pro with the lemon board in lighter winds? It seems like a bigger foil would help more than a bigger wing no?
Merci,
David
