FORUM : about SUPfoil !!!

Who Foils, and Where???
The real appeal of the Foil is to be able to Surf impossible to ride waves, and do it correctly.
On SUP, we need the same type of waves as Surfers do, so the need for friction is inevitable.
On a Foil we need a wave without a steep face, super long, which makes it to soft to Surf. It’s well understood that once we see a dude going off on the peak with a Foil ten other kooks are wanting to imitate what they just saw. But in reality and within the realm of logic the Foil is really on the margins of the Surf world.
Remember that SUP is perfect for those whom have a rough time at Surfing. If you’re a good Surfer you’re only going to jump on a SUP when conditions are tiny and you won’t be doing it because you prefer the feel of its glide. If you’re a good Surfer a SUP really has little and/or no interest to you. The SUP is the facilitator to Surfing.
On the other hand, Foiling demands a real skill level of Surfing. Even if someone is good on a SUP they’ll find themselves struggling on a Foil if they do not have a real solid base of Surfing skills because a Foil demands that you possess a real trained eye for the terrain. Everything goes faster so if you’re not used to fast Shortboard Surfing it might sting.
So there is a real difference between a SUPer and Foiler. I am certain that this difference will fade but well into the future, a Foiler is already a good Surfer that knows the Ins and Outs of what he’s doing. But you can’t stop someone who is suicidal and hard headed. This post comes after some important feedback from Colas Nahaboo on the GONG Forum.
