After a strong performance in Leucate where he landed on the podium in pump foiling, Edouard Tournier shares his insights on the foil setups he used in training and during the competition.

Testing Fluid and Veloce before the event

“Pumping Feedback: Fluid vs Veloce
Now that the Mondial du Vent is over, I can share more about the foil tests I ran before the comp. I tried a range of front wings and stabs to find the best match. Here's my take:

What’s the goal? What kind of program?
I started out thinking I’d go with the Veloce no matter what, I’ve always been a fan. But as soon as I tried everything, doubts kicked in.

Overall, I found the Fluid wings super lively and responsive, while the Veloce felt more locked-in, especially at higher speeds. The Veloce just tracks, doesn’t move an inch. The Fluid, on the other hand, reacts quickly to even the slightest toe or heel pressure. That’s great for tight slalom turns, but not ideal for flatwater speed pumping like at the MDV.

So my first impressions leaned toward the Veloce. Still, I needed to check the top speeds.”

Speed tests size by size

“I recorded a few timed test runs, about 150 meters each, over roughly 30 seconds.
Low dock, 5m of runway, almost no wind.
Here are my max speeds (km/h) in those conditions:

Fluid L: 23.2
Fluid M: 24.6
Fluid S: 25.3
Veloce XL: 24.1
Veloce L: 26.9
Veloce M: 28.3

Clearly, the smaller the foil, the faster it goes. But I was also burning way more energy on the M than on the XL. So Vmax matters in races, but being able to hold that effort over a full run is just as important.

That’s why I chose the Veloce L—it struck the best balance. I paired it with a Fluid XS stab that really freed up the foil on every axis, boosting both speed and maneuverability.”

Choosing based on your session goals

“To wrap it up: Fluid and Veloce each bring a lot to the table. They overlap in some areas, and both are strong performers depending on your session goals.

I went with the Veloce HL for the event because it ticked more boxes for what I needed to perform. But the Fluid is a killer option too—especially in waves or for Lowkite. I’ve had some awesome sessions with it since the comp!”
