FEEDBACK: DROID UPE ARAMID

Taking off in no more than 7-8 knots with the Droid UPE Aramid, Malo can't believe the conditions he can now sail in. Here is his full feedback.

Wing Foiler: Malo, GONG team rider, using the Droid UPE Aramid, Cruzader Point FSP Pro, HM85 mast, Ypra Surf-Freestyle, and Freestyle stab.
Test Conditions
"As soon as I received it, I couldn't resist trying the Droid UPE Aramid in 6.5m². The board used was the Cruzader 6'6" XL with a Curve H XXL front wing and Fluid XXL stab. The wind was barely there, up to 15/16 knots at the strongest gusts, with very irregular north-east wind in both strength and direction. The water was flat."
The Lightness of the UPE Aramid
"Straight out of the bag and after inflating, you go 'wow'... it's beautiful! The finishes are top-notch, the materials are high quality, and the boom is magnificent. The inflated wing seems extremely rigid with a very hard leading edge and a perfectly taut canopy. There's no play in the boom; it's top-notch! The wing is much lighter than my old Plus 6m² (2023) and even more so than the Super Power 7.5m² (2023); it's obvious when carrying it, and it stays in the air in nothing."
Lightness and Power
"On the water, in zero wind, the boom is super practical for holding the wing, and it's lightweight, which makes it all super easy. A little gust at 7/8 knots, pumping, and hop, it flies... amazingly easy! In stronger gusts, you immediately feel the power of this wing; it’s direct in the arms and accelerates immediately! It reminds me of the Pryde Search waves for those who windsurf... I can just imagine hitting a small ramp and getting airborne! But let's stay calm; the water is flat, I’m recovering from injury, and I’m especially 53 years old."
Control with the GONG Boom
"In the big lulls, pumping with the wing and foil, it keeps flying when there's really nothing on the water. Enough to catch the little gust passing 50m away and connect it... it's excellent fun, even exhilarating! The most difficult part is managing to jibe in almost no wind... I’m working on it! As a former windsurfer, the boom brings extreme comfort; everything is more natural and less tiring. It was just in the first two jibes where I was thrown off, so used to reaching for the handle. After that, the jibe becomes even simpler and more fluid thanks to this boom. Recovering from a herniated disc and severe sciatica, I haven't attempted tacking, which I don't master well at all, to avoid injuring myself. But I think the boom will greatly facilitate tacking."
Extended Wind Range Thanks to the Wing Foil
"Honestly, I didn't think when I started winging less than a year ago that I would be able to sail in such light wind and have so much fun. The equipment is really top-notch, whether it's the Cruzader, the Curve H, or the UPE Aramid wings. It's magical! For those still hesitating, don't hesitate any longer; you can sail almost all the time, it's just crazy."
