The world champion Surf-Freestyle wing reveals a versatility that wins over Sébastien, GONG ambassador! Here’s his take.
Wing foiler: Bastien and Francesco, GONG team riders, riding the Cruzader Diamond and Droid Aramid.
Stiffness and maneuverability.
“I had the opportunity to test the 2026 Droid in 4 m² in different conditions: freestyle, freeride, and wave.
From the very first runs, several points stood out clearly:
- Great stiffness combined with a nice light weight, offering excellent balance while riding.
- Very maneuverable wing, ideal for 360 rotations.
Very good upwind ability and well-balanced power; personally, I don’t use a harness.”
Freefly, freestyle, and freeride.
“In freefly: less neutral and locked-in than the Neutra, but nothing abnormal either. Switches hands very quickly during surf riding and direction changes. Works extremely well for wave riding, I love it.
In freestyle: very strong performance for takeoffs or relaunching after a trick. Power is right there and allows explosive takeoffs even in light wind. On a few of the attached photos: foil 720 / Droid 4 m / 12 knots. Amazing hang time on big jumps, I loooove it. Wing passes during 360 rotations are super smooth; it almost disappears.
In freeride: I didn’t find it too on/off either, quite pleasant while riding, good upwind ability, fun, and power when you want it.
To sum up: a wing capable of doing everything, and doing it very well. Whether you’re into surfing, throwing tricks, or just cruising back and forth, I find the Droid to be very good in all these areas.” - Thanks to Sébastien for sharing his feedback on the GONG Galaxy group.
