Feedback after a first high-wind session by François with his new Droid Aramid 2025.
Wing foiler: Clément, GONG team rider, riding with the Stunt FSP Pro, Droid Aramid, and a Ypra Surf-Freestyle setup.
New GFS bindings and Boom with EVA elbow
“First session with the Droid 5.5 Aramid
This version looks great in this color, it really stands out when you inflate it.
The new boom attachment is very effective — it doesn’t move and the strap is nicely aligned.
Also, the boom is 100% EVA, so less risk of damaging the board… Although personally, I’ve never damaged my board with the boom.
The central strut is slimmer, and the weight is unchanged.”
Low-end power and high-end control
“It still has its legendary low-end power, but what impressed me the most was the high end… We had gusts between 18 and 24 knots… and I was super comfortable the whole time.
It doesn’t twitch, it’s very smooth, it glides a bit like the Neutra 2024.
Tacks are still a pleasure, and I find it very fast when switching sides.
It pulls less on the front hand, acceleration is more linear, but it loves to speed up with every gust.
Actually, I hit 27 knots with the Ypra Surf in pretty choppy conditions and some waves.
It also seems like a very good wave-riding wing — I found it stable, not fidgety at all.
What stands out the most for me with this model — although I’ve only had one session — is the comfort and smoothness, which is quite new for a Droid.
I’m really looking forward to trying the smaller sizes.
That’s it for this quick little debrief. 😉”
