FEEDBACK: CARBON PRO 8” AND 9” PADDLES
Warren shares his first impressions about the new 8” and 9” Carbon Pro paddles after surf sessions with his Zero FSP Pro longSUP.

New Carbon Pro paddles
“A few shots from the weekend and my thoughts on the new Pro paddles -
I was previously using leading brand race and wave paddles and I got the 8” and 9” Carbon Pro mid-February. It was my first chance to use them this weekend down in Cornwall.”

“First, the 8” - Wave conditions this weekend were extremely varied - hollow fast breaking waves through to shallow faces with occasional backwash when approaching high tide. 5 surf sessions over the past 4 days in a range of wave sizes and quality - offshore winds, cross shore winds, onshore winds, and no wind. 645cm2 is a really decent blade size for accelerating to catch waves. Exceptionally smooth when driving hard, and really light in the hands. In sub-optimal conditions, it’s possible to drag yourself onto a wave when you’d normally drop off the back. It’s also useful to get you out of the merde when a clean up set comes through 😬
Even though there’s no specific grip area on the paddle shaft, my hand didn’t slip at any point, no matter how hard I was pushing, or whatever angle the blade was at. I had to apply grip tape my previous paddle to prevent slippage, so being able to use this straight out the bag is a real bonus, and gives you the confidence to get to where you need to be to catch waves, but also to avoid taking a beating from a rogue wave…..most of the time. Sometimes they’re too big and wide to outrun 😂 ”

“And the 9” - This paddle is 750cm2 and drives well without feeling its size. I’ve used large blade paddles previously which feel cumbersome and a bit unforgiving. However, this felt smooth on the catch, and gave the board good drive, no doubt due to the bend characteristics of the shaft. Again, this paddle felt light in the hands.
Looking forward to using it more and more as my SUP foil surf and downwind SUP journey continues.”
