Chris shares with us the feedback of an experienced wing foiler regarding the Droid SP Aramid CZ, which features an ultra-lightweight and rigid construction.

The Droid SP Aramid CZ compared to the Droid Aramid X
“Got to try my brand new 6.0m Droid SP CZ here in Carnac today and to test it side-by-side with the 2025 Droid X. So a very brief report to help anyone undecided between them.
Firstly have to say we are so spoilt for choice having so many truly awesome wings to choose from - each has its own merits so hopefully a little understanding is useful.
My reference point is the 2024 Droid X which although I was perhaps uncertain with to start I grew to really love (I also have a quiver of Aramid UPE wings in the same sizes).
So initial impression of the Droid SP CZ is it feels incredibly light but wow the power and the stability are insane. It pulls hard like the Pulse DP but with far easier handling. It locks in and simply drives the foil without any mercy and it doesn’t flinch in the gusts it just drives more but feels so solid and unwavering. The handling is surprisingly light and in tacks and gybes it depowers nicely but when the power comes back on you need to be ready for it !”
How it compares to previous wings?
“So compared to the 2024 Droid X it feels lighter (the CZ fabric is super light even on a 6.0) it is more powerful and it feels more alive and responsive. Sailing upwind the drive and angles are fantastic and it doesn’t flinch when the gusts come through. Allows incredible depth offwind too. A harness is a must to really get the most from it. It also pumps very easily to get going, which was a concern with the 2024 Droid X until you got used to it. For racing it will be an absolute winner as the performance is fantastic but it is so easy to handle.
So the 2025 Droid X in comparison has a slightly softer feel - still a very stable and rigid wing but perhaps a little more ‘alive’ feeling than the 2024 X and therefore great all round for so many uses. It is super easy to pump, feels fast and stable but more forgiving than the CZ and the 2024 X - perhaps it has moved a little closer to the Aramid UPE version but with the benefit of the more durable canopy.
It seems GONG have very subtly tweaked the designs to suit specific needs for which they should be congratulated 👍 These are very high level wings and really a delight to use for good riders.
One other notable point - the Droid CZ has windows which whilst only being fairly small do really help avoiding other riders in crowded conditions- a nice touch 👍
Test conditions were a variable wind of 8 to 20 knots with some lulls. Board Racer 5’6”, Foil Veloce-H M and HM107 mast with 1.5 degree shim. I was able to foil easily in the weakest lulls.
Hope this helps 👍”
