Off the lip (backside)

The off the lip backside is a complex turn on a SUP that Pierre performs perfectly below on his Alley FSP Pro, the shape of which allows you to radicalize and wrap the curves at will. A key asset for an off the lip backside which requires a full pivot when hitting the lip. The coordination must be perfect so as not to be thrown off by the force of the lip. Here are our tips.

To achieve a powerful off the lip you have to hit the wave almost under the lip, as vertical as possible. And unlike a roller, you really have to pivot at the top of the wave, almost on the spot.

Keys are:

  • Good speed to get away from the wave at the bottom in order to allow a very vertical upward trajectory.
  • Don’t be ahead of the wave because on the shoulder this move is impossible. You almost have to have foam in your feet at the bottom.
  • Pushing the back foot excessively at the top of the wave to force the pivot, almost as if you wanted to pass the tail behind the wave and tilt the board over the lip.
  • The upper body pivots a moment before impact and prepares to be followed by the board and the rest of the body.
  • Keep in mind that you have to hit the lip, not just pay it a visit …
  • Always present the hull to the lip and not the rail.
