The ultimate wave wing for high performance surfing and jumps.

Presentation

The Neutra is the ultimate wing for surfing and jumps!

With a Surf-Freestyle World Champion title and a Big Air World Champion title, the Neutra is the best performing wing in the waves.

This new edition of the Neutra benefits from shape changes tested, proven and validated by our Pro Team, meeting their expectations and those of the most demanding riders.

Surfing is the name of the game with the Neutra thanks to its neutrality on demand, as its name suggests, which makes it the perfect wing for committed surfing, freeflying and even freestyle. Its ability to get off your mind when held by the downwind handle is fabulous for a fluid style.

Its leading edge is very curved and re-segmented to improve maneuverability. It concentrates the draft shape at the level of your hands on the batten. The feeling of power is incredible because you feel it as soon as you sheet in. It takes off within a few pumping strokes. It goes much faster, higher, and it is heading upwind like a rocket.

Its short center section makes the wing super rigid. It pulls straight forward and with precision for lightning acceleration in between two wave rides. This rigidity of the heart of the leading edge combined with its irreproachable canopy tension, brings firmness and reactivity.

With its dynamic twisting of the tips, we keep control in overpowered sessions. You never feel overwhelmed. Even in the tricks we feel a perfect fluidity in the rotations. This very smooth shape really gives you a feeling of lightness and absolute freedom.

In surfing and freeflying, it naturally goes into neutral and slips off your mind. On the more committed sections, the roundness of its leading edge allows you to maneuver very short. And in case of a touchdown with a tip, the roundness of it does not catch the water: an immense quality in the waves!

This wing is extremely efficient while remaining smooth and fluid, which makes it very accessible. This accessibility is reinforced by its setting with textile handles, which naturally give it greater tolerance.

And thanks to our revolutionary GONG Fastening System you can now upgrade your wing according to your uses or your preferences, switching within two tightening key turns, from the textile handles delivered as standard, to the rigid carbon handles or to our carbon boom.

A real innovation at the service of your sensations. Adapt your wing to your level, to your feelings, and even to the type of session you wanna have because nothing prevents you from mounting the rigid handles for freestyle, the boom for speed runs and the textile handles for wave riding.

The Neutra is available in 6 sizes, including 3 intermediate sizes for a perfect quiver: 2m², 2.5m², 3m², 3.5m², 4m², 4.5m², 5m² and 5.5m².

Your benefits are clear:

  1. An efficient shape created by one of the world leaders in wing foiling.
  2. Two world titles for this benchmark wing.
  3. A design at the cutting edge of R&D and ahead of its time.
  4. A construction proven on thousands of wings.
  5. A light, solid wing, with the best rigidity on the market!!!
  6. An incredible price that can only be explained by our direct relationship with you.
  7. Simple maintenance and easy repairs as we have all the components in stock.

A durable wing:

Solidity is a crucial point when riding in waves. The Neutra is light but really strong. First, thanks to the premium materials we use. Then by the quality of assembly which ensures record breaking strength. Finally by a clever design which positions the seams to stiffen the wing but also limit tearing in the event of a contact with the foil for instance. Note that the tips are made more accessible to change the bladder easily if necessary. (Learn more about the technology of the Neutra)

Shape
Outline

Maneuverability and fluidity are the trademarks of the Neutra.

The Neutra’s architecture centers its power for maximum maneuverability. It really does feel like it’s pivoting around a point just behind your front hand. It delivers precise and instinctive piloting.

It is slender at the tips to maintain fluidity in maneuvers. The tip sections are thinner, as is the draft shape which approaches zero. This makes the ends of the wing penetrate the air better, which accelerates the wing but also improves its ability to turn. Behind you, just like for tricks, you don’t even feel it’s there.

The curved leading edge and the slightly open tips add smoutness when entering the air. It appreciates almost all angles of attack and therefore all points of sail. It is a wing that pivots easily in the hands. Fabulous in wave riding for rotations, tricks and especially surfing!

With the Neutra, we want a lot of finesse, precision and therefore a fairly thin profile. But we also want power and profile hold in strong winds. So the leech tension and the stability of the draft have been judiciously worked out so that the wing does not deform over the entire range of use of the wing. There’s only a gradual twist of the tips twist to absorb the gusts and accelerate on the water as in rotations.

The work of the rigidity in the heart of the wing and the progressive twisting of the tips is a major axis of evolution of the Neutra.

The distribution of the leading edge segmentation is very regular. This regularity offers a perfect control of the deformation which applies crescendo going towards the tips. The central part of the wing pulls while the tips absorb the gusts. Power control is total.

The leading edge includes a stiffness section in its center. Short and of a large diameter, it locks the dihedral and reinforces the connection between the central batten and the leading edge. It’s really super stiff. It accelerates strongly and in the jumps we go really high because the wing does not bend in the middle.

The tips have been twisted to limit drag and gain maneuverability with an ever lighter feeling in the hand.

On contact with water, the tips are very smooth. Their very small surface, the reduction in the diameter of the tip segments and the twist allow the wing to “roll” on the water on tricky landings or when surfing / freeflying. It’s an easy-to-pump wing that maximizes your success rate out of tricks.

The tips open slightly in gusts and when board reaching. It gives more comfort as it relieves your arms, and we go faster because the air is renewed in the wing.

Z-shaped central strut

The Neutra retains its magical Z-shaped central strut. The panels are cut perpendicular to the central strut to make it stronger under high pressure. The connection with the new central segments is firmer. The middle third is designed not to flex in the hands, as this is where much of the flex that opens the leech would form. It is even tighter for more power and precision.

Finally, the rear third of the central strut is sewn onto the canopy, on a panel without any draft shape, which increases the section of the batten at the level of the rear hand and gives it greater resistance to leeward bending. The central strut is therefore twice as rigid, guaranteeing a constant shape during jumps or gusts. The rear hand acts directly on the closing of the leech thanks to the placement of the rear point of the handle after the start of this wide cone: by pulling on the rear hand, the batten is closed instead of letting it open as for a classic batten. It reduces flapping and offers impressive power. The increased rigidity allows a fine control of the wing and brings consistency in its behavior.

This batten, combined with our revolutionary modular handle system, is unique on the market.

3 handle systems

The Neutra now features our ingenious modular handle system, allowing you to adapt it to your preference and program, as well as to the conditions. Delivered with a set of textile handles by default, you can upgrade your Neutra with either rigid handles or a boom.

/!\ Rigid handles and boom not included.

The base of the handle attachment, which perfectly matches the central strut, already provides much more firmness, rigidity and therefore control when your wing is in the textile handle configuration.

But with our system and this triple solution of textile handles / rigid handles / boom you can vary the whole dynamics of the wing.

  • The textile handles give a very different feeling: softer and more secure. The feeling of the wing being ripped out of your hands when totally overpowered is reduced as the batten can better absorb gusts. And in the event of a bad fall or a contact, the textile handles are really less aggressive than a boom.
  • Theboom* takes up a very large part of the bending forces exerted on the central strut: the wing is very rigid, and the leech retains its tension by bending less in gusts. The power gain is maximum. And the maneuverability of the wing is facilitated by the large gripping length available on the boom.
  • Rigid handles* are the exact compromise between these two feelings. We have power and tolerance in the profile. The gain in steering precision is fantastic.

The boom* and the rigid handles* have in common a very specific ergonomic angle on the front part which relieves on the long sessions and which allows a pistol grip in surfing or in freefly to maintain a bit of power that can be adjusted.

So the handles/boom are not just different grip styles: it’s a performance element that you can adjust with GONG! Thus the profile is even more effective in responding to your desires.

These handles are fixed with two screws on US-nuts: the same as those of your foil! Everything is designed to be compatible and modular. You can even mix the rigid and textile handles, or change them during your progression, or even according to the type of session you’re having: wave riding, freestyle, freeride etc… It’s very simple, very well finished, and really clever.

Our system allows absolutely no play. It is perfectly rigid and impossible to untighten while sailing. No hook and loop, no rope, no fragile parts, no plastic parts that fail after a year, nothing that can ruin your session. On the contrary, our parts enclose the straps which encircle the entire central strut: total reliability proven for years. No risk of seeing the central strut torn off by the handle after a few months…

*as an option

A wing, thought out for you, down to the smallest detail:

Finally, as nothing was left to chance, the space between our two handles is the perfect center distance to place the harness line for even longer and more intense sessions. Long relaxing reaches and one-handed tricks are all yours!

Camera safety leash loop

To capture your best wing sessions, we have added a very discreet nylon leash attachment to each tip of the wing to secure your camera mounted on the Flymount leading edge attachment and sail without stress. The position of the attachment is carefully chosen so that the leash does not come into the field of the camera! You will be able to shoot amazing images and share them, without ever risking losing your camera!

Valve

The large rapid inflation/deflation valve on the leading edge which is doubled on the strut for immediate deflation and compact storage. Always in one pump, it’s inflated by the leading edge in a few seconds and is deflated just as fast by unscrewing both valves.

DACRON Wing Technology

  • It benefits from the strongest construction on the market. And yet it is lighter! While nothing is indestructible, we still want wings capable of coping with the worst treatments and equipping the best riders.
  • The seams are further reinforced, always with the aim of increasing the longevity of your wings. The reinforcements are strategically positioned so that the wing can withstand all the stresses you will apply to it during use.
  • We are the opposite of the basic wing technology of low cost brands. Our low prices can only be explained by the absence of intermediaries. Our wings are built according to the rules of the art, to last and endure the usual constraints of this new sport.
  • At GONG our wings are top of the range and if by bad luck you were to break them, they are repairable from A to Z with the components that we keep in stock for your favorite repairer.

Buying guide

For whom?

Whatever your level, the Neutra is accessible.
And it’s even more true with this model which allows you to change the handles according to your preferences.
It allows very technical maneuvers but its shape is accessible.

For what?

A wave riding program traditionally brings together three aspects: on your way out there’s a jump, next comes a transition maneuver, a surfing sequence, a transition maneuver, and you repeat the sequence on end…

  • You want to surf: this is the perfect wing.
  • You want to jump: this is the perfect wing.
  • You want to turn: this is the perfect wing.

Obviously, she is mad in Downwind for her surfing performance.

Neutra or Droid?

If surfing is what matters the most with the possibility to send a trick here and there, orient yourself towards the Neutra.

If high performance freestyle is your thing, then choose the Droid instead, which also allows you to have heaps of fun in the waves.

Both do everything very well but they still have their favorite program ?

Which size?

Don’t overestimate the power of wings. The reality is that for a 85kg winger, you need 15/20 knots with a 5m² to fly to get flying the first few times. After about 15 sessions, you will fly at 15 knots with a 5m². And if you’re athletic, pumping hard can make you take off at 12 knots in 5m² and hold the flight through 8 knots lulls. All this can be learned and requires practice.

Which materials?

The best material for the leading edge depends above all on your program and your ambitions. If you like cool freeride sessions, if you’re only doing your first tricks or if surfing and freeflying is all that matters, a Dacron leading edge and central strut will be perfect.

If, on the other hand, you like to push the limits, with a wing that pulls very hard and flies sky high, don’t hesitate! TheUPE will bring you undeniable advantages, the gap is very large in terms of performance, it goes faster, higher and it turns incredibly well since the diameters are thinner.

Best quiver choices?

The wing Neutra works with everything but especially with a compact and light board, dedicated to surfing and freeflying. Obviously it will be more in phase with a foil dedicated to performance, with a mast around 85cm for example.

You can (should) add to this combo a SUP for windless days, and surely a board dedicated to surfing. But if you’re heading towards wing foiling, you may already have these toys in the garage ? ?

Which leash?

A5’5 to 8’ Wing leash will be ideal. Preferably a model dedicated to wing foiling and of the coiled type. A short leash allows you to get back on the board quickly. By letting the board go further, a long leash prevents contacts between the foil and the wing.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. It’s your life jacket.

Don’t let your wing flap in the wind at the end of the leash, it’s not unbreakable! Ditto in the waves, do not hold your Wing by the leash, it will explode and/or you will get hurt.

With or without a harness?

Riding without a harness is sexy because it’s a thing of the moment and it makes you feel free. You can move in all directions, it’s really nice.

But it is necessary to be slightly underpowered if you do not want your arms to burn too quickly. This also means more pumping to take off.

All our wings haveharness line attachments. So, the choice is yours.

So, if on the other hand you like to ride with bigger wings to avoid pumping like crazy with each relaunch, the use of aharness is almost mandatory if you don’t want to do one-hour sessions or only 300m reaches.
In this case, the installation of the GONG harness line is super simple. Our harness line is light and really well thought out.

Important point: spare yourself. Do you think it’s okay to hang on your hands for hours? Will it be good for your body in the long run? Why not kitefoil without a harness then ? We prefer to warn you about the consequences of long-term intense practice on your body without being able to spare yourself with a harness.

Please note: putting on a harness does not mean using it all the time. It is at your discretion. But you can simply organize your sessions with moments of recovery over a few hundred meters to send even harder afterwards.

We recommend using a harness that is as light and discreet as possible, with windsurf type hook (narrow). Exactly what we have developed at GONG so that you never feel tied up, to preserve this feeling of freedom, to be able to breathe and feel light.

So, it’s up to you to see if sensation and aesthetics prevail over performance. But it is a safe bet that soon all riders will have harnesses because the evolution will go towards more powerful wings and more performance. So inevitably we need to spare our arms, otherwise we ride like a snail when we have a rocket at disposal.

Boom or handles?

It’s your choice :

  • Textile handles for beginners, for surfing, for freeflying, to protect yourself and the board, and for a very light wing.
  • Boom for maximum power and a very race / windsurf feeling.
  • Rigid handles for the best of both worlds: staying light and developing strong traction. You also gain in piloting precision..

With this very versatile wing, we prefer textile handles for beginners. But once you know how to fly, many will go for rigid handles for their piloting precision. Everyone has their own opinion, the choice is yours.

Windows or full canopy?

Wings without windows require a maneuverable, responsive wing and an experienced rider who sails instinctively. Always check your trajectory, especially in maneuvers and tricks.

Wings with windows are safer.

Windowless wings are cheaper, 200g lighter and easier to store.
Wings with windows are safer, stiffer and more responsive.
For beginners, a wing with windows is essential because safety comes before the few grams you could save. They are not meant to admire the landscape: they allow you to see a silhouette leeward and to abort your turn to prevent a collision.

Equipments

  • The new large rear textile handle naturally positions your hand where you are most comfortable. Once in flight, your hand won’t move much, but you’ll find this big handle very useful during take-off, pumping or certain tricks where moving your rear hand makes life easier. Easier to catch than the double handle, it remains precise in steering.
  • The textile handle for the front hand is ideally placed. Its position depends on the shape of the draft, so it is more precise to have a small front handle because on a good wing the draft shape does not move back. There is no need to move your front hand.
  •  A downwind handle on the leading edge that allows you to handle the shocked wing on land as well as on the water.
  • The GONG Fastening System allows you to set your wing with rigid handles or a boom, making it evolve according to your program and desires.
  • Two harness loops placed on the central strut allow you to attach your GONG harness line to sail for long hours without getting tired.
  • Two inflation/deflation valves for rapid deflation that are used directly with the nozzle placed on the pump hose (not supplied). No more non-compatible or lost nozzles!
  • The neoprene caps of the valves have been drilled to facilitate the evacuation of air when folding, even when closed!
  • The mini fiber battens at the trailing edge have been lightened for a considerable weight gain.

  • The solid camera leash attachment on the trailing edge secures your camera mounted to the Flymount leading edge attachment!
  • All our wings are supplied with a premium bag and a repair kit.
  • To comply with navigation regulations, we have integrated a plastic label on the intrados, close to the tip, to write down the owner’s personal information: surname, first name, telephone and address.

Generalities about the wing

The wing is a machine with an inflatable structure directly in the rider’s hands. Handgrips are used to control its flight and the power delivered.

The wing’s number one advantage is the absence of a mast rig. This allows you to switch from a horizontal windsurf-type traction to a vertical kite-type traction. The best of both worlds can be combined in total freedom.

Much less complicated than a kite and much lighter than a windsurfing sail, the wing lightens you to the zenith and accelerates in front of you.

The wing combines the advantages and moves of these two sports, and it gives even more with all the possibilities linked to neutrality in surfing, and the rotations under the wing and other offsets… the potential of moves is endless.

Ideal when combined with a Foil, it is much more reassuring than a kite and much more manoeuvrable than a windsurf sail.

The wing is by far the simplest support to learn how to foil, far ahead of all other sports. A great way to learn to foil afterwards in other sports.

It is the perfect machine:

  • Compact, it fits in a car and is easy to fly.
  • Lightweight, you can ride your Quiver without having a hard time.
  • You can go in the water anywhere, except in the shorebreak.
  • Very little sensitive to the quality of the wind. If it falls we return quietly.
  • A potential in surfing and tricks almost infinite without a mast rig.
  • High performance for a minimum of constraints.
  • The attraction of novelty, it’s good to change sometimes.
  • No major danger.
  • Smile, smile and smile.

With its glide, you don’t have to overcast to have fun. In gusts of wind, its structure naturally absorbs excess power. The pros will be able to put on a harness to size up and boost performance. But amateurs will also find real relief in the harness. Contrary to popular belief, it’s the Wing that carries your arms, not the other way around. But after two hours without a harness, you have to admit that fatigue is there. Everyone is free to hold on with bare hands or to relieve themselves.

Ideal with a foil, it requires more air than a kite which will always have the advantage of pulling a lot from 4/5 knots. The wing will require between 10 and 15 knots to express itself on a Foil and will remain super easy even in 35 knots, even 50 knots, where the kite often rhymes with big risks.

It is great with a pure wing board, but also with multiple supports such as :

  • SUP foil
  • Surf foil
  • Stand Up Paddle SUP (rigid or inflatable)
  • Skate
  • Rollerblade
  • Mountain board
  • Anything that slides on snow
  • Etc.

The advantages of the wing are clearly identified: simplicity, compactness and lightness provide unequalled freedom of movement and ease of use. The wing is ready to fly in 1min chrono: no line to unroll, just two flexible slats to insert in their sheath, a few strokes and off you go.

The technology used to make the wings is very similar to that of our kitesurfing wings, but much stronger. Multiple reinforcements are present on the stress zones according to the different uses.

The shape of the wing is self-stabilizing. Don’t imagine orienting it by the force of your wrists like on a boom: it doesn’t work like that. You put your back hand down: the Wing will lay flat above your head. You put it up and the wing goes vertical. Easy! This is called umbrella or screen piloting. It is often said that the beginnings of the Wing are more like pole dancing than windsurfing. Indeed, you almost have to have the back hand vertically under the front hand when you are not flying, to keep the wing as an umbrella. This way you keep it away from the water, and you use its traction with the same angle as a kite to lighten up. So, think pole dance ;-))))))

Warning

You must read the detailed user manual completely before using your wing for the first time.

Be sure to have a full understanding of it. Wings can be dangerous depending on their size and the strength of the wind. You have to check the wind range of your wing so that it corresponds with conditions and your actual skill level.

For the first few sessions, never use your new wing in its high wind range. Use your wing in a secure environment. Take the necessary time to learn how to handle the equipment under optimum safety conditions. Never underestimate the traction power of your wing. Even a beginner’s wing can develop a pulling force of several hundred kilos depending on its size and the strength of the wind. Do not overestimate your abilities. Misuse can cause serious injury or death to the practitioner or others. Do not use your wing at sea in offshore winds. Use your wing equipped with a leash. Be careful to avoid any collision. Be extremely careful if you sail with your wing and a board equipped with a foil. The manufacturer declines all responsibility for damage or damage caused by improper use of the wing or carelessness of the user.

Dry your wing ?

Unless you end your session with a long ride in the sun and land on a pontoon, it’s rather rare to get out of the water with a completely dry wing. ? Note that there is no need to dry your wing if it is to be used regularly in salt water, as the salt protects the materials from mold.

If, however, for transport or storage reasons you want to dry them, you must absolutely avoid hanging the deflated wing by the handle on the leading edge. It’s however very practical but it is the best way to obtain a hernia on the central strut at the junction with the leading edge following the collapse of the bladder inside. The bladders are movable in the strut and the leading edge. So if you hang it up deflated to dry, the bladder can slip, or even crumple, in the strut sleeve.

So ideally, you dry your inflated wing in the shade, and at worst flat or at least with just the inflated central strut.

Find all our How to : Dry your wing

How to inflate your wing?

Inflating your wing while it is still rolled can cause movements and twists of the bladder which will have the effect of deforming the inflated wing or causing hernias. It is therefore essential to fully unfold your wing before inflating it using the inflation valve on the leading edge.
