NEWS: THE REDUCED WINGSPANS OF OUR WINGS !!!

We pay particular attention to the handling of our wings, especially when designing our large wings. Thanks to unprecedented design expertise, acquired through the development of the widest range of wings in the world with 5 different models and sizes ranging from 2 to 9m², we are able to boost the performance of large wings while offering smaller wingspans than the market standards for more than two years now. This positions GONG as a true pioneer in R&D thanks to its methodical and structured work, without going through outlandish ideas. Our in-house engineers do a wonderful job.

The compactness of our wings has been optimized while maintaining their performance regardless of their size. Avoiding the easy scale solution (scaling sizes starting from a key size as many brands do), GONG develops each size of each wing to adapt it exactly to our desires. Wingspan, sections of the central strut and leading edge, positions of the handles, twist, a very large number of parameters are adjusted in the same range to match the conditions encountered in a specific program.

In practice, when sailing flat on the water, the wing stays at a safe distance from the water surface as can be seen from our range listed below in increasing order of wingspan (starting from size 5m²) with the 5m² Droid on the far left and the 7m² Plus on the other end. The 9m² SP is above the water and even above your knees! 9m² is huge, and yet it has been going strong for two years! We are far from the fears of people who think that a large wing necessarily touches the water. It will naturally be more bulky, but at GONG our large wings are perfectly designed to avoid contact with the water surface, whether in flight or pre flight. Remember that it is the wing that carries your arms, and not the other way around 😉

Pre flight

While sailing flat on the water, the winger balances and sustains himself with the wing slightly above him. This forms an angle of about 45 ° with the rider which, taking into account our reduced wingspan, ensures a very wide margin with the surface of the water.

In flight

In high-speed flight, in performance posture, the wing is more vertical, but the compactness of the range also maintains a good margin with the surface of the water, even for the largest wingspan.

On our wing dedicated to lightwind, the Superpower, which is available in up to 9m², this work on compactness is particularly important. For example, the wingspan of the Superpower 6m² is smaller than the wingspan of a Pulse 5m² which corresponds to the market standard!

To achieve this feat without deteriorating performance, the shape of the Superpower is designed to provide a constant power that allows you to take off in two strokes of pumping. It has an impressive hollow with an important length of boom to pass the wind holes. The icing on the cake, the quality of the structure of the Superpower makes it possible to do without additional battens (whether rigid or inflatable), which avoids extra weight, the weight being the enemy of all that flies.

The wing adapts particularly well to spots with irregular winds. These development efforts on large sizes are therefore essential to effectively cover the entire range of use of this sport in great comfort. The result of this work on limited wingspans makes it possible to exploit all these conditions with the feeling of a “small” wing.
