The PULSE DP UPE ARAMID is a jewel of innovation and performance.

This concept of wide luff which is already known in windsurfing for example and in aeronautics more broadly, had never reached production for winging before GONG found simple and effective technical solutions. Developed by our engineers and our Pro Team, this design was born after dozens of specific prototypes and hundreds of hours of digital simulations. Converting a very common idea to a perfect realization took a lot of dedication.

The PULSE DP UPE ARAMID has been designed to be the best Race wing :

  • The ratio is increased from 4.0m2 to 5.5m2 to limit drag.
  • The wingspan is almost constant from 5.5m2 to 6.5m2 to have more torque and be able to sail full tilt over the chop without hitting the crests.
  • The draft is now flatter than on the PULSE Boom. The wing is more incisive in the air and glides even better!
  • The double profile which traps the air behind the leading edge greatly limits drag, the efficiency gained at high speed is stunning.
  • The leading edge diameters have been reworked, the central section has been refined for more glide, the diameters at the tips have been slightly increased to improve the rigidity and make the wing more powerful.
  • The tips have been opened a bit to optimize air flow, with glide as the main point of focus.
  • The wing is equipped with a new material on the inflatable structures, UPE Aramid, lighter and stiffer than UPE in order to offer unrivaled performance on the market.

GONG | Wing Pulse DP UPE Aramid
Shape
Double profile & double skin

And that’s where the innovation lies:

  • fine-tuning the length of the double profile to improve the glide without hurting take-off,
  • test all the implementation solutions in order to end up with a very simple production model, which hits as the obvious solution,
  • regulate the tension of this internal double skin to optimize performance without destroying that of the extrado. It seems simple but it’s not ?
  • find the trick to release the water from the double skin when swimming without resorting to a tortuous solution.

On all these points, on the design of the shape, on the materials, on the assembly in the factory, GONG provides solutions that spell a revolution.

Let’s admit it. For those coming from slalom windsurfing, a little something was missing when wing foiling. This feeling of being full tilt in the harness with a rig that keeps on pulling no matter how fast you go. Acceleration on demand without having to struggle for it.

The Pulse DP UPE Aramid consistently delivers maximum power to go faster.

It is a wing that you can lock on course and enjoy rising apparent wind in the process. At takeoff it is quite classic, but as soon as you set course and accelerate, you are amazed by its very reassuring stability and by its seemingly endless capacity for acceleration.

You can use smaller foils to glide even faster. You can also sail overpowered even if it’s not essential.

Its behavior in the wind is very fine and powerful at the same time. Which takes a little time to get used to but after a few runs it becomes totally addictive. You will never have this feeling of being so comfortable at 30 knots, of heading so easily, and of bearing down with unstoppable glide. In fact, it’s like discovering what Race can truly be in wing foiling.

Adding a lot of volume to the intrado of the wing reduces power at standstill and increases it as you speed up. So it pulls a little less right out of the blocks, but the power grows as you accelerate. Besides, this pull, which can be huge, is very sound and perfectly locked. Nothing moves. On the contrary, you get more lift, which in turn allows you to lean completely back in the harness. Not using a harness will limit you to a few hundred meters and degrade your overall performance: it’s a pure Race wing!!!

In the pack of a Race starting line, the Pulse DP is very insensitive to the wakes of the other wings. When you know your sheeting in / shocking range, you can precisely control your glide to pass through the swirl of their wake without cavitating. The jibes and tacks are 100% racing: go for it and assume the power in the curve!

UPE Aramid

The inflatable structure of this high-performance wing is also revolutionary: this new UPE Aramid is even more efficient than UPE 200 that you already loved and which has proven itself on the Wing Foil Tour with Julien Rattotti’s world title in Big Air, Malo Guénolé’s world title in Freefly-Slalom U19 and Clément Hamon’s world title in Surf-Freestyle U16.

UPE Aramid is lighter and stiffer than UPE 200. The feeling in the hands is a wing of record lightness and dynamism.

The work carried out on Aramid fibers (density, axis, section) allowed us to create a woven base which optimizes stiffness while allowing a slight twist on a chosen axis. We have an ultra-rigid wing that knows how to release excess energy. This woven base Aramid brings so much nervousness that we were able to reduce the weight of the UPE layer. Thus we obtain the same rigidity at 8 PSI in UPE Aramid as at 12 PSI in UPE 200. This translates to lower stress on the materials and less inflation time. A high-performance material that will allow you to exploit the full potential of this fabulous wing!

Handle

The PULSE DP UPE ARAMID retains its slender architecture which makes it an ultra-efficient wing in terms of acceleration, speed and heading. On this new version, the smallest details have been optimized to promote performance in Racing:

It keeps a boom which allows you to place your hands perfectly where you want them, whatever the wind or the point of sail.

In addition, this carbon boom takes up the majority of the efforts in place of the central strut. With this absence of flex on the structure, we were able to considerably reduce the diameters of the central strut and therefore its drag. Partially covered by the double profile, it nevertheless offers significantly less resistance. And you can feel it!

Outline

Thanks to the rigidity of the UPE Aramid, the ratio has been slightly increased compared to the Pulse Boom Dacron for more finesse, glide and stability at high speeds. You won’t experience hazardous behaviors of the wing while sailing at 30 knots: you can concentrate on steering the foil with a perfectly set wing.

More ratio means more wingspan, which is why on the larger sizes (6.0m2 and 6.5m2) the ratio decreases slightly to stay close to the wingspan of the 5.5m2 and be able to go full tilt over the chop without the wing ever touching the wave crests. This lower ratio on the two large sizes also favors their performance in light winds by providing more torque and support, particularly when heading upwind.

The diameters of the leading edge have been revised:

  • In the center, the section has been reduced for glide and finesse, again to reinforce this racing behavior.
  • At the tips, the section has been slightly increased to stiffen them. The trailing edge doesn’t flap. We have more power overall and the Pulse accelerates constantly.

The tips have been opened so as not to disturb the transverse air flows found at the tips. The wing dumps airflow and glides with minimal disturbance. This point is reinforced by the tip slats which allow a tiny diameter at the tip, and thus reduce the tip vortex.

The profile has been refined to be in line with the tempo of this super fast wing. This makes it possible to reach even higher speeds and have an incredible heading.

UPE ARAMID Technology

The Droïd UPE Aramid benefits from the most advanced technology to excel in freestyle:

The UPE Aramid, a true gem of textile technology developed by experts in nautical textiles.

How does it work?

  • The PET film ensures the connection between the elements and waterproofing.
  • The Aramid fibers are arranged at a chosen angle to block the fabric’s extension under load without unnecessarily adding weight to the structure.
  • The thin layer of UPE, lighter than on UPE 200, ensures strength. This tight weave of Dyneema fibers is a veritable shield.

These three laminated layers create a fabric that is both extremely lightweight, highly rigid, and very resistant to tearing.

Our exclusive assembly, tested in the laboratory and by the Pro Team, ensures unparalleled longevity for UPE Aramid.

The whole system is so rigid that 8 PSI gives you the rigidity of a UPE 200 at 15 PSI. It’s truly deformation-resistant.

Less pressure = less stress in the wing = less time spent pumping.

More durability, performance, and lightness: the holy grail.

Buying guide

For whom?

It is aimed at experienced wing foilers who are looking for a fine and powerful wing to pilot that always delivers more speed.

The Pulse DP is technical, efficient and demanding; therefore we do not recommend it for beginners or people in the progression phase. You need a solid background in wing foiling, which can be enriched by extensive experience in windsurf racing or slalom since the piloting is essentially the same.

For what?

Go faster, in a straight line or on a long up and down course.

This is not a wing for jumping, surfing, maneuvering or doing cool tacks. This is the first pure Race wing!!!

What size?

With this PULSE DP UPE ARAMID, as soon as you fly you constantly have power in the wing by creating apparent wind which it loves and which it will convert into forward traction.

For a Slalom use, take the same size wing as usual to maintain handling and control when sailing crosswind.

For a Race use with upwind and downwind courses close to the tailwind, it is preferable to take it a size larger than a traditional wing.

Which quiver?

You need a fast foil to exploit all the speed that this wing will offer. It will be perfect with a Veloce H, a Ypra S or a Ypra.

Generally we will even take advantage of the superior traction of the Pulse DP to remove 100 to 200cm2 on the front wing.

But you can also associate it with a Cruzader and a giant front wing like the Sirus in very light winds. Its magical glide will be a real pleasure.

For the board, the best choice is a rigid FSP Pro board to transmit all the energy to the foil.

With or without a harness?

With the PULSE DP UPE ARAMID, the harness is mandatory to sheet in properly, lean back in the harness and set your course, and relieve your arms on long runs at high speed!

The Pulse DP pulls very hard, and provides much more lift than a single skin wing. So you can really rest in the harness.

Moreover, a real harness is recommended for long overpowered sessions. It pulls really hard and all the time.

The wing is equipped with a boom so the harness line is adjustable to find your sweet spot.

Please note, the boom harness line is not supplied with the wing.

Equipments

The PULSE DP UPE ARAMID is equipped with the most prestigious elements in wing foiling:

  • The double profile, which is a second canopy that connects the leading edge to the intrado to optimize flow.
  • The Low Drag System technology on each tip consists of a rigid, removable slat tensioned by a profiled clip to allow smooth air flow.
  • The Prepreg carbon is wrapped around the boom in 4 directions to maximize its rigidity, it is the most high-end technology on the market! Its oval shape offers ideal ergonomics to be able to sail with this powerful wing without paralyzing the forearms.

  • The new windows were positioned to have a panoramic view downwind. This is a real plus for your safety and that of others.
  • A downwind handle on the leading edge which allows the shocked wing to be manipulated on land as well as on the water.
  • The inflation/deflation valves are directly connected to the hose of the pump (pump not supplied). No more incompatible or lost nozzle!
  • The neoprene valve caps have been pierced to facilitate air evacuation when folding, even closed!
  • The micro-slats at the trailing edge are ultra light for considerable weight savings.
  • The wing is always supplied with its repair kit.
  • To comply with sailing regulations, we have integrated a laminated label on the underside, close to the tip, to write down the owner’s personal information: name, first name, telephone number and address.
  • The PULSE DP UPE ARAMID is supplied with a high-end bag whose dimensions will allow you to store the wing easily and without dismantling either the boom or the LDS slats by rolling the wing like a windsurf sail. It’s really practical and space-saving since it’s smaller than your board.

Warning

You must read the detailed user manual completely before using your wing for the first time.

Be sure to have a full understanding of it. Wings can be dangerous depending on their size and the strength of the wind. You have to check the wind range of your wing so that it corresponds with conditions and your actual skill level.

For the first few sessions, never use your new wing in its high wind range. Use your wing in a secure environment. Take the necessary time to learn how to handle the equipment under optimum safety conditions. Never underestimate the traction power of your wing. Even a beginner’s wing can develop a pulling force of several hundred kilos depending on its size and the strength of the wind. Do not overestimate your abilities. Misuse can cause serious injury or death to the practitioner or others. Do not use your wing at sea in offshore winds. Use your wing equipped with a leash. Be careful to avoid any collision. Be extremely careful if you sail with your wing and a board equipped with a foil. The manufacturer declines all responsibility for damage or damage caused by improper use of the wing or carelessness of the user.

Dry your wing ?

Unless you end your session with a long ride in the sun and land on a pontoon, it’s rather rare to get out of the water with a completely dry wing. ? Note that there is no need to dry your wing if it is to be used regularly in salt water, as the salt protects the materials from mold.

If, however, for transport or storage reasons you want to dry them, you must absolutely avoid hanging the deflated wing by the handle on the leading edge. It’s however very practical but it is the best way to obtain a hernia on the central strut at the junction with the leading edge following the collapse of the bladder inside. The bladders are movable in the strut and the leading edge. So if you hang it up deflated to dry, the bladder can slip, or even crumple, in the strut sleeve.

So ideally, you dry your inflated wing in the shade, and at worst flat or at least with just the inflated central strut.

Find all our How to : Dry your wing

How to inflate your wing?

Inflating your wing while it is still rolled can cause movements and twists of the bladder which will have the effect of deforming the inflated wing or causing hernias. It is therefore essential to fully unfold your wing before inflating it using the inflation valve on the leading edge.

Generalities about the wing

The wing is a machine with an inflatable structure directly in the rider’s hands. Handgrips or a boom are used to control its flight and the power delivered.

The wing’s number one advantage is the absence of a mast rig. This allows you to switch from a horizontal windsurf-type traction to a vertical kite-type traction. The best of both worlds can be combined in total freedom.

Much less complicated than a kite and much lighter than a windsurfing sail, the wing lightens you to the zenith and accelerates in front of you.

The wing combines the advantages and moves of these two sports, and it gives even more with all the possibilities linked to neutrality in surfing, and the rotations under the wing and other offsets… the potential of moves is endless.

Ideal when combined with a Foil, it is much more reassuring than a kite and much more manoeuvrable than a windsurf sail.

The wing is by far the simplest support to learn how to foil, far ahead of all other sports. A great way to learn to foil afterwards in other sports.

It is the perfect machine:

  • Compact, it fits in a car and is easy to fly.
  • Lightweight, you can ride your Quiver without having a hard time.
  • You can go in the water anywhere, except in the shorebreak.
  • Very little sensitive to the quality of the wind. If it falls we return quietly.
  • A potential in surfing and tricks almost infinite without a mast rig.
  • High performance for a minimum of constraints.
  • The attraction of novelty, it’s good to change sometimes.
  • No major danger.
  • Smile, smile and smile.

With its glide, you don’t have to overcast to have fun. In gusts of wind, its structure naturally absorbs excess power. The pros will be able to put on a harness to size up and boost performance. But amateurs will also find real relief in the harness. Contrary to popular belief, it’s the Wing that carries your arms, not the other way around. But after two hours without a harness, you have to admit that fatigue is there. Everyone is free to hold on with bare hands or to relieve themselves.

Ideal with a foil, it requires more air than a kite which will always have the advantage of pulling a lot from 4/5 knots. The wing will require between 10 and 15 knots to express itself on a Foil and will remain super easy even in 35 knots, even 50 knots, where the kite often rhymes with big risks.

It is great with a pure wing board, but also with multiple supports such as :

  • SUP foil
  • Surf foil
  • Stand Up Paddle SUP (rigid or inflatable)
  • Skate
  • Rollerblade
  • Mountain board
  • Anything that slides on snow
  • Etc.

The advantages of the wing are clearly identified: simplicity, compactness and lightness provide unequalled freedom of movement and ease of use. The wing is ready to fly in 1min chrono: no line to unroll, just two flexible slats to insert in their sheath, a few strokes and off you go.

The technology used to make the wings is very similar to that of our kitesurfing wings, but much stronger. Multiple reinforcements are present on the stress zones according to the different uses.

The shape of the wing is self-stabilizing. Don’t imagine orienting it by the force of your wrists like on a boom: it doesn’t work like that. You put your back hand down: the Wing will lay flat above your head. You put it up and the wing goes vertical. Easy! This is called umbrella or screen piloting. It is often said that the beginnings of the Wing are more like pole dancing than windsurfing. Indeed, you almost have to have the back hand vertically under the front hand when you are not flying, to keep the wing as an umbrella. This way you keep it away from the water, and you use its traction with the same angle as a kite to lighten up. So, think pole dance ;-))))))
