Droid Boom Wing

Program
The ultimate wing for freestyle and wave riding, now in a boom only design!
Presentation
The Droid is the benchmark in surf-freestyle, combining compactness, acceleration, and extreme maneuverability.
Thanks to these qualities, it has earned World Championship titles with Clément in Surf-Freestyle and with Malo in Race. Always at the forefront of international competitions, it is built for pure performance.
The new shape, inherited from the Team Series collection, brings even more power and fluidity in rotation, making it an essential wing for executing the most technical moves. Freestyle, freeride, wave riding, freefly, or race/slalom, the Droid can do it all with rare versatility.
Its DNA is simple: to allow you to execute combos, land 1080s, and send massive frontflips or backflips, all while staying light and precise in the waves. More responsive than most wings, it gives an immediate feeling of propulsion and acceleration: a real catapult.
Its optimized profile, both hollow and taut, provides excellent power and ideal control to relaunch after a move, a crash, or between waves. This allows you to use a smaller wing, increasing your radicality and possibilities while riding.
Not only is the Droid unbeatable in big air, but it also performs excellently in light wind with fluid and effective pumping. It stays stable and quick, without ever snagging water, making your lightwind sessions more enjoyable.
The Droid 2025 is designed to take off early, accelerate rapidly, jump high, and push your limits in every condition.

HIGHY SEGMENTED LEADING EDGE
The new segmentation of the tips, with six additional sections, enhances the wing's spin, provides greater forgiveness, and reduces the impact of tip touches on the water.
The distribution of the leading edge keeps a compact section at the center, ensuring high rigidity for excellent traction, particularly in jumps. This core rigidity allows for perfect twist control that intensifies toward the tips. The central part of the wing generates pull, while the tips absorb gusts, ensuring total control.
LOW RATIO
The Droid features a compact outline. Its new, lower ratio provides increased maneuverability and impressive performance. It takes off quickly, accelerates with strong forward traction, and is highly radical in moves thanks to its compact shape that reduces bulk.
The compact wingspan makes pumping extremely easy and intuitive, channeling the power to your hands while keeping the tips away from the water.
ROUNDED LEADING EDGE
The leading edge has been re-segmented for increased smoothness, better rotation, and a lighter feel.
The new, more curved leading edge has been moved further back to enhance maneuverability
With its pronounced leading-edge arc, the Droid spins effortlessly. This enables the wing to shift orientation with ease, particularly when steered with the downwind/surf handle.
The wing can be effortlessly reoriented with minimal pressure. It provides extremely smooth, fine control. This is true on reaches, particularly upwind, but especially when surfing with the wing in hand. It places itself exactly as you direct it, in the blink of an eye.
This curve adds tolerance to this powerful shape by enhancing its rotation capabilities.
DYNAMIC TIP TWIST
The twist of the tips kept low to maintain power and a steady grip, yet sufficient to channel excess power into smooth gliding.
The new segmentation allows for fine-tuning this twist.
The progressive reduction of the leading edge allows the Droid to breathe.
HOLLOW PROFILE
The hollow profile is optimized for maximum lift and acceleration during jumps.
You immediately feel pulled forward. No need to be overpowered to accelerate rapidly. With the Droid, the zero to a hundred happens in two seconds!
It remains well-calibrated and perfectly positioned to avoid limiting maneuverability and responsiveness. It simply supports a compact DNA that concentrates energy to boost your rides.

Buying guide
For Whom?
Freestylers, freeriders, and thrill-seekers, this wing is made for you!
The Droid is designed for those who want a compact, powerful, and ultra-responsive wing. Accessible for motivated beginners yet crafted for experienced riders seeking high performance, it adapts to your skill level while driving you to improve.
Powerful and undeniably high-performing, it’s designed for those who want to push their potential to the fullest. The Droid delivers strong acceleration and demands an assertive physical presence, making it ideal for riders eager to push their limits. While its intensity is a major asset for freestyle and jumps, it can be softened for freeriding by using a harness, especially on longer runs.
Being equipped with the carbon boom, the Droid offers immediate reactivity and pinpoint control, ideal for sharp piloting and dynamic maneuvers. While it requires dedication, it propels you into a world of unmatched performance.
What for?
The Droid is an ultra-versatile wing that excels in demanding disciplines while remaining accessible. Here are its key strengths:
• Freestyle and flatwater: designed for modern and complex maneuvers, it provides instant acceleration and explosive pop, perfect for chaining the most advanced tricks with fluidity.
• Early take off: with its compact design and focused power, it lets you take off early, even when underpowered. Ideal for making the most of your sessions without staying stuck on the water, no matter the conditions.
• Engaged surf: responsive and agile, it perfectly adapts to multi-peak waves, where being opportunistic and reactive is key, with precise control to push hard.
• Transitions and rotations: thanks to its low aspect ratio, it makes jibes, tacks, and 360s easier, while minimizing the risk of catching the water.
• Slalom and fast freeride: with its forward pull and power, it delivers dynamic performance, allowing you to ride at top speed while maintaining perfect control.
The carbon boom strengthens the profile's rigidity, ensuring consistent performance and an immediate response in any condition. Whatever the situation, your hands instinctively settle on the boom. The Droid Boom is a true powerhouse, built to push your boundaries and enhance your glide.
Droid ou Neutra?
• Droid: Built for those who want to push their limits. With its focused power and explosive handling, it’s the ultimate wing for surf, freestyle, and flat-water tricks. While it excels in surf, its main goal is to elevate your performance to new heights.
• Neutra: Tailored for riders who focus on fluid glide and precise control in surfing. With its carbon boom, lighter than the handles, it offers exceptional maneuverability, making it perfect for endless turns in freefly or wave riding.
Each model has its own personality, but they all share a common goal: to provide you with the best experience on the water, with style and performance.
Understanding the GONG range
- Plus: A versatile, accessible wing designed for progression.
- Droid: Explosive power for surfing and freestyle.
- Neutra: The fluid wing for surfing, freefly, and endless carving.
The Droid Boom is your ultimate companion for thrilling, seamless sessions. With its compact design, agility, and exceptional performance, it transforms each ride into a flawless experience.
What size?
Don’t overestimate the power of wings. A rider weighing 85kg will need 15-20 knots with a 5m² wing to fly at first. After about fifteen sessions, they will be able to fly at 15 knots with a 5m². And if they are athletic, they will pump hard and lift off at 12 knots in 5m² to get through lulls at 8 knots. This is a learning process and takes time.
Which material?
The choice of leading edge material depends mainly on your program and goals. If you prefer cruising in freeride, are just starting tricks, or enjoy surf and freefly, a Dacron leading edge and central strut will be ideal.
If, on the other hand, you love riding hard with a wing that pulls powerfully and will fly sky high, don’t hesitate! The UPE Aramid will provide absolute stiffness with undeniable advantages. The performance gap is significant—it goes faster, higher, and turns incredibly well thanks to its thinner diameters.
Finally, to push even further into the performance realm, combine the UPE Aramid structure with the ultra-rigid Code X canopy fabric. You’ll boost your performance by 15%, reaching the pinnacle of high-level wing performance.
Which quiver ?
The Droid wing works with everything but pairs especially well with a compact, lightweight board—or a Cruzader for light wind.
Here are the typical pairings:
- Cruzader for light wind
- Mint for freeride
- Stunt for freestyle
- Mint, a short Cruzader, or a Lethal for freefly
- Lethal for surf
Naturally, it’s best matched with a performance-oriented foil, with an 85cm mast. Ideal foil pairings:
- Veloce HDW or Sirus for light wind
- Fluid for freeride
- Ypra Surf-Freestyle for freestyle
- Veloce for freefly
- Curve or Fluid for surf
To complete the setup, you can (and should) add a SUP or a surf foil for no-wind days, a kite to get airborne and probably a quiver of surfboards for those perfect waves. But if you’re venturing into wing foiling, chances are you already have some of these toys in your garage.
What leash?
A wing leash from 5'5" to 8' is ideal. Preferably one designed specifically for winging, and of the coiled-type leash style. A short leash makes it easier to grab the wing quickly. A long leash keeps the wing further away from foil drops in the sail, giving it more space to move.
Always check its condition before each session and replace it every year. It’s your life vest.
Don’t let your wing flap around in the wind at the end of the leash, it’s not indestructible! Also, in the waves, don’t hold onto the wing with the leash, it will break or you may injure yourself.
Harness or not?
The Droid doesn't require a harness for surf/freestyle as the reaches are short. However, it's a powerful and responsive wing that will be much more effective with a harness in a race program or even freeride, for those who want to fully exploit its capabilities.
Riding without a harness feels liberating as you have full freedom of movement. It’s a very pleasant feeling.
That being said, you’ll need to use a smaller wing and do shorter reaches to avoid tiring out your arms. This also means you'll have to pump frequently to take off again.
All our wings come with harness line attachments.
This gives you the option to use a harness or not.
Therefore, if you prefer to ride powered up, using a harness is almost essential if you don’t want your sessions to be cut short after an hour. Setting up the harness lines is very easy (refer to our tutorials on the forum). We suggest using the least rigid and most minimal harness, with either a small hook or a windsurf-style hook for better comfort.
Lengths of 24 to 28 cm between the strut and the V-shape’s end will be perfect.
A length of 30 to 32 cm makes learning easier. A small diameter line and a thin sheath are essential, as windsurfing lines, for example, are too heavy and rigid, making them dangerous during tacks and other tricks.
So it’s up to you to decide if the sensation and aesthetics take priority over performance. But more and more riders are using harnesses, as the trend is towards more powerful wings and higher performance.
Soft handles, semi-rigid handles, rigid handles, or boom?
The choice is yours, but the trend towards the boom is clear:
- Soft textile handles for beginners, for surfing, for freefly, to protect yourself and the board, and for a very light wing.
- Semi-rigid textile handles for a good level of performance thanks to precise and responsive handling, as well as better energy transmission during pumping, for example.
- Carbon rigid handles to keep it light and generate stronger traction. Handling is extremely precise. The pistol grip on the front handle is very comfortable and practical.
- Boom for maximum power and a true “windsurf” sensation. You have the freedom to grip the wing as you wish. It allows for more tricks and a broader range of use, all while being very lightweight, contrary to what you might think.
Handles offer very compact storage in a backpack, while the boom is stored lengthwise. However, it's worth noting that you can fit just as many boom wings as handle wings in a board bag. The boom doesn’t take up more space, it just occupies it differently.
Windows or full canopy?
Wings without windows are less expensive, 200g lighter, and more compact for storage.
Wings with windows are safer, more rigid, and offer quicker responsiveness.
For beginners, a wing with windows is essential because safety takes priority over the few grams you might lose. The windows are not for sightseeing: they are designed to let you see a silhouette to prevent executing a dangerous turn that could cause a collision.
Equipments
Integrated harness leash attachment system
Two discreet harness attachment points, ideally placed on the strut, allow you to connect your GONG harness line for hours of fatigue-free riding.
Semi-rigid textile Downwind handle
Almost rigid, it greatly enhances the control of the wing in both freefly and surfing.
The new oval stitching and reinforcements on the downwind handle anchor points help distribute the forces more evenly across the leading edge, ensuring long-lasting durability.
The Dyneema leash attachment is now located on the intrados side of the DW handle, preventing the leash from getting in the way while freeflying.
Carbon boom
Introducing a major innovation: the Perf Series wings in a 100% boom version.
Take advantage of all the advancements of the boom technology from our Team Series wings on our wings that are not only affordable in price but also more comfortable to hold.
lighter
less drag
more grip
more comfort
improved performance
The boom has become essential for performing at the highest level. Indeed, one-handed tricks have become a must. And what a boost in freedom! Our wings feature the most ergonomic, lightweight, durable, and rigid boom on the market.
Our prepreg carbon boom offers a significant weight reduction compared to rigid handles, as it eliminates two fixations, saving over 200 grams. This is further complemented by an additional 30 grams saved thanks to the thinner strut.
This weight saving is crucial for surfing and freefly, as it ensures the wing remains perfectly neutral and balanced.
Zero flex in the strut thanks to the carbon boom, which absorbs the forces. A strut that doesn't bend means a taut trailing edge, resulting in a powerful wing that doesn't flutter and offers perfect glide.
The boom features a pistol grip at the front, allowing you to maintain and adjust the power as needed. This eliminates the risk of flapping, which can slow you down in waves, particularly when surfing in offshore winds.
The strut’s shape and the boom’s angle are carefully engineered to trim the wing naturally, eliminating the need to constantly bend your back arm. This not only balances the traction in your arms but also allows you to generate maximum power with minimal effort, perfect for jumps and other maneuvers.
This is also highly useful when you’re overpowered: gone is the feeling of being yanked, as the wing stays fully controllable, ensuring maximum comfort.
Quick inflation with the One Pump system
The leading edge and central strut are connected by the One Pump system for quick inflation in one go. The clip then locks the airflow between the bladders to ensure the wing’s buoyancy in case of a leak in the strut or leading edge. This feature is vital for safety.
The inflation valve on the leading edge is doubled on the strut for immediate deflation and compact storage. Using One Pump, you inflate through the leading edge only in a few seconds and deflate just as quickly by unscrewing both valves.
Fiberglass micro-battens
Micro fiberglass battens on the trailing edge: light and very effective in preventing flapping. They maintain the profile all the way to the trailing edge for optimal airflow.
Lightweight and strong, they are easily replaceable to keep your wing in top condition year after year.
Camera safety loops
To capture your wing sessions, we’ve added a discreet nylon leash attachment on each tip and near the strut to secure your camera mounted on the leading edge or strut with a Flymount, allowing you to ride without stress. The leash attachment is strategically placed so it doesn’t interfere with your camera’s field of view! You’ll be able to create stunning shots and share them without the risk of losing your camera!
Repair kit
A repair kit, including bladder patches and fabric, is included with your wing.
Carry bag
A durable and practical backpack comes with your wing. It’s perfectly designed with a large U-shaped zipper for easy storage, a ventilation grid, comfortable padding, compression straps, and straps for the pump (not provided).

Droid Boom or Droid with carbon rigid handles?
Is the Droid a beginner wing?
The Droid makes it easy to start thanks to its compact design and power. Beginners need traction to take off and short tips to pump without snagging. That’s exactly what the Droid offers. It’s a wing that heavier riders love for progression, especially in larger sizes, as it maintains a very compact wingspan that’s easy to pump.
Is the Droid a lightweight wing?
Light on land, light in neutral mode during freefly and surf, the Droid delivers strong pull while riding. What stands out isn’t just its lightness but rather the ON/OFF nature of the Droid. You can truly switch it from full presence and traction to complete neutrality.
Which wave wing should I choose?
Within our comprehensive range, we offer several wings tailored for wave riding. Depending on your conditions and experience, you should lean towards one model or another.
- Plus: A perfect progression wing, it’s also the most versatile in the range. It excels in all programs, offering great performance in the waves with solid power for upwind and perfect balance for freefly/surf.
- Droid: Surf-Freestyle at the highest level with this wing, which is both a real catapult and incredibly subtle when surfing. Powerful, you can ride with very little wind, allowing you to use the smallest wing possible in the waves. Its small wingspan makes surfing easier, especially with the handles in hand.
- Neutra : 100% waves, this is the most efficient wing for surfing and freefly. Light, ultra-maneuverable, and smooth, it has all the qualities of a pure surf wing.
What is the difference in pumping between a Neutra and a Droid?
The draft and the ratio are almost the opposite on these two wave wings.
The Neutra is quite conventional in pumping, with a soft and progressive takeoff, relying on a moderate traction sensation. You can feel the tips working during pumping, which gives it a very pleasant and classic feel.
The Droid is a catapult that pulls forward with an important draft but a very reduced wingspan. It pulls decisively, without any hesitation, at the slightest puff of wind, and accelerates instantly without snagging the water.
Before takeoff, when underpowered, the Neutra will give a very light pull that you'll need to stimulate with some pumping, while the Droid will always provide a firm push to initiate pumping.
The Droid will offer better performance with an underpowered board in light winds. Conversely, you may prefer the smooth glide of the Neutra on a board that glides easily, like a Cruzader.
Neutra or Droid?
> If you primarily want to surf and also send tricks in the waves, go for the Neutra.
> If you want to focus on freestyle performance but also enjoy waveriding when conditions allow, choose the Droid.
Both wings perform incredibly well in all areas, but each one shines in its own way! ;)
What is the recommended inflation pressure?
The recommended pressure is shown in the table below:
Several factors should be taken into account:
- An underinflated wing will be unstable and hard to control in gusty winds.
- An overinflated wing increases the risk of bursting during a crash and will wear out the seams and materials faster.
- If you leave your wing inflated in the sun for long periods, we suggest slightly deflating it to prevent seam fatigue.
- The larger the leading edge diameter, the greater the risk of bursting. Avoid overinflating large wings.
How to maintain my wing equipment?
To extend the lifespan of your equipment, the way you use it and its regular maintenance will be crucial.
One important tip is to avoid leaving your wing inflated for long periods when not in use! The flapping of the fabric in the wind can lead to premature wear on the materials, as can prolonged exposure to UV rays.
Frequent rinsing of your wing with running water is also not recommended. The chlorine present in tap water can damage the surface treatments of your wing. Instead, it’s better to store your wing dry and remove any excess sand
In case of a punctured strut or leading edge, use your repair kit or consult our spare parts catalog to order the replacement part.
Systematically inspect the condition of your wing. Look for any holes or cuts and repair them before they worsen.
If your wing is damaged, you can get it repaired directly at the GONG workshop by reaching out to our sail loft: HERE.
