Foil Carbon Mast HM 86 cm V2
High modulus, ultra-rigid, and versatile carbon fiber mast for enhanced performance with large wings.

Program
The high modulus carbon fiber mast with absolute rigidity for large wings and a perfect drive!
Description
A radical shape for absolute rigidity! A radical shape for absolute rigidity! The 86HM mast has been designed on the same basis as the 72HM mast, which is a reference in pumping practices and control of large wings. Profiles, dimensions, fillets… everything is carefully considered to ensure that your giant wing obeys your every command. Its length of 86cm, more oriented towards wing foiling, allows you to fully maximize the potential of your large front wing during your light wind sessions. Maneuvers, carves, and surfing without any flex or unwanted movements are on the agenda! Nothing will hold you back from having a blast with your giant wing. The use of large front wings can quickly apply tremendous stresses on a mast: the front wings are powerful, the control inputs are strong, and the expectations are high. Therefore, any deformation results in energy loss and a decrease in performance. This is where the 86HM Mast truly shines: even with a 186cm wing, you won’t feel any torsion or deformation! To achieve such a result, all the geometry of the mast has been optimized in this perspective. Its upper profile is almost rectangular (although profiled) in order to keep the thickness on the entire chord. This geometry maximizes rigidity in flexion, but especially in torsion. Torsion is a horrible feeling when using a large front wing. This mast is the answer to this concern that harms the drive and causes strong loss of energy. The lower profile of the mast is a light supercritical profile, which promotes water flows and therefore glide which remains a crucial point in light wind. However, this profile is bombed enough for its curvature to act like a beam that completely blocks flexion. The wing fillets around the top plate were completely redesigned to distribute the efforts on their whole length. This geometry maximizes torsion rigidity. On the 86 HM, the efforts are distributed on almost 20 cm instead of 15 cm on the 85 HM mast. Carbon fibers transmit more energy to the board. The result is stunning!
Note: The fuselage is sold separately from the HM mast.

Rigid profile
We designed this mast so that you can have a blast during your light wind wing sessions with large front wings. The 86cm length is the perfect size for this program: it provides room for comfort during navigation, the mast is not too long to maintain dynamism, and it won’t let you lose control in curves and rail-to-rail transitions.
This mast is not only reserved for light wind conditions; its lower section is thinner, halfway between the 79HM and the 85HM, to enhance glide. It is just slightly thicker at the bottom compared to the 85HM. Therefore, it will be the perfect ally for larger riders who seek rigidity in their control inputs to minimize the amplification of small piloting errors. With a “normal” size front wing, you won’t lose much in terms of top speed with this 86HM mast, only about a tenth of a knot. However, the increased precision it offers will likely help you gain a few knots and avoid many falls.
Self-tightening conical fitting
The conical self-tightening fitting at the lower end of the mast allows the mast to be mounted without play in the aluminum or titanium V2 fuselage. The more you pump, the more pressure you apply, the tighter it becomes! And with its three screws, you are sure that nothing will move. The top plate is molded in one piece with the mast, which allows absolutely no play. The assembly guarantees you zero loss of energy when pumping and impeccable steering precision.
Pre-preg carbon laysup
The high modulus carbon and prepreg carbon layup is a model of its kind. The 50 layers of the mast are distributed in 5 angles to guarantee incredible dynamism. The return to its initial shape after effort is 4 times faster than on a standard mast. And the use of high modulus carbon drastically reduces deformations.
The prepreg is one of the keys to the performance of this mast because the resin is applied in the perfect dosage in the carbon fiber before it is placed in the mold by a robot. The precision of the dosage is absolute. No risk of delamination, bubbles, dryness, or excess weight. Total precision!
TORAY M40J high modulus carbon offers incredible stiffness. It is a high-end carbon that delivers high mechanical properties while remaining resistant. A carbon popular in aeronautics as well as for high-end sports equipment. Its mechanical characteristics such as its superior tensile strength and Young’s modulus make it possible to obtain exceptional performance on the water.
This huge piece is produced in a mold weighing more than 400 kg, operated by large machinery to protect people. More than 4 hours are needed to set all the layers in the perfect order. Then comes the moment of closing the mould, always impressive in terms of strength and precision. Finally, it is inserted into the heating press to compress it to 120 tons and heat it at 155°. The result will be a mast of rare rigidity.
The huge advantage of high-end carbon is its stiffness. To the point that it is not useful to put as much material as with other materials. Thus we gain a significant weight, almost 20% compared to aluminum. And beyond the measured weight, the dynamism brings a feeling of liveliness and therefore of incredible lightness.
A damaged insert: you can replace it in a few seconds and for a few euros. Easy. A shock in the rocks: you repair your mast as you would repair your board.
To put it in a nutshell, the 86HM mast is the pinnacle of rigidity. Its shape, designed to withstand very high stresses without any deformation, makes it a clear powerhouse for pumping and carving. It allows you to fully exploit the potential of large wings. Large front wings put significant demands on the foils, as they are wide and require strong control inputs. This is where you will discover the full potential of this mast!
Treat yourself with a beautiful and super efficient carbon equipment piece.

Buying guide
For whom?
The 86HM mast is perfect for those who want an ultra-rigid mast for large wings, specifically for light wind sessions in wing foiling.
It is also the perfect ally of a big rider in wing foiling looking for maximum rigidity.
This is a mast for the most demanding users, the fine tuners that take care of their gear, because it is the best.
This mast is intended for experienced riders. We therefore invite you to take great care of it and not equip yourself with it if you are just getting started.
What is it for?
Its shape, designed to withstand very high stresses without any deformation, clearly makes it suitable for navigation with giant wings. The use of such wings can quickly apply tremendous stresses on a mast because these front wings are extremely powerful, requiring strong control inputs and with high expectations. Therefore, any deformation results in energy loss and a decrease in performance. The 86HM mast is the solid answer to this challenge for wing foiling.
Which HM mast size?
The 89 cm:
- In dock start/beach start : the 86HM mast is perfect for controlling and transmitting power to a larger foil. However, due to its length, it may be less agile in achieving higher pumping frequencies compared to the 72HM. Nevertheless, it is ideal for very tall docks.
- In surf foiling/SUP foiling : the 86HM mast is quite long for riding waves close to shore. However, it will be perfect for softer downwind conditions where a larger front wing is desired.
- In wing foiling : it performs exceptionally well, providing smooth glide and efficiently transferring 100% of the control inputs to the foil. The size is perfect for carving maneuvers without lifting half of the front wing out of the water.
Which quiver?
This mast is suitable for all wings but we recommend using it with high performance wings to make the most of it.
It is on large front wings that it will prove to be decisive.
Foil positioning?
For GONG foils, place the top plate at the rear third of the US rails in surfing, SUP and kite, and in the middle of the US rails in wing foiling.
The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.
Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.
