Description

Program

Thin and rigid high modulus carbon mast to boost your performance in waveriding and freestyle.

Description

This new high modulus and prepreg full carbon mast is essential in the quiver of a demanding rider. The 85 cm HM mast is dedicated to high performance in wing foiling, be it in freestyle, freeride or waveriding.

This mast earned the 2022 wing foiling vice world champion title in Freestyle U19 under Malo’s feet. It’s the most hardcore of our range.

The length of 85cm provides great versatility and tolerance. No need for a lot of depth, easy curves without getting overwhelmed, absolute rigidity, maneuvers and the pumping is very efficient.

Its profile is greatly refined, in thickness and in chord, as it approaches the fuselage, which reduces drag, meaning higher speeds. At the level of the fuselage, the thickness is reduced by 12% compared to the V2 carbon mast. We clearly have less drag !!!

Piloting precision is improved thanks to perfect control of flex and twist. The HM (High Modulus) coupled with its stringer increases the performance of this mast tenfold. The decrease in bending is around 30% and the decrease in torsion is around 40% compared to the V2 carbon mast, yet of excellent quality.

Its high modulus carbon construction with internal stringer is super rigid and responsive. It allows you to maintain a formidable dynamic despite the lower thicknesses. This technology is the very best in high pressure, high temperature molded carbon construction.

More glide means a higher top speed, but above all, more ease to reach it. So we accelerate harder, we relaunch, we fly early, we have better handling. These are essential assets when looking for absolute performance.

The conical fitting at the lower end of the mast allows the mast to be mounted without play in the pro aluminum fuselage. The more you surf, the tighter it gets! And with its three screws, you are sure that nothing will move. This mast/plate is made of one piece. You therefore have no play, neither at the top nor at the bottom of the mast, which guarantees impeccable piloting quality.

The high modulus carbon and prepreg carbon layup is a model of its kind. The 50 layers of the mast are distributed in 5 angles to guarantee incredible dynamism. The return to its initial shape after effort is 4 times faster than on a standard mast. And the use of high modulus carbon drastically reduces deformations.

TORAY M40J high modulus carbon offers incredible stiffness. It is a high-end carbon that delivers high mechanical properties while remaining resistant. A carbon popular in aeronautics as well as for high-end sports equipment. Its mechanical characteristics such as its superior tensile strength and Young’s modulus make it possible to obtain exceptional performance on the water.

This huge piece is produced in a mold weighing more than 400 kg, operated by large machinery to protect people. More than 4 hours are needed to set all the layers in the perfect order. Then comes the moment of closing the mould, always impressive in terms of strength and precision. Finally, it is inserted into the heating press to compress it to 120 tons and heat it at 155°. The result will be a mast of rare rigidity.

The huge advantage of high-end carbon is its stiffness. To the point that it is not useful to put as much material as with other materials. Thus we gain a significant weight, almost 20% compared to aluminum. And beyond the measured weight, the dynamism brings a feeling of liveliness and therefore of incredible lightness.

A damaged insert: you can replace it in a few seconds and for a few euros. Easy. A shock in the rocks: you repair your mast as you would repair your board.

In summary, this carbon mast combines finesse, lightness and extreme rigidity to shred on your spot.

Treat yourself with a beautiful and super efficient carbon element.

Note: The fuselage is sold separately from the HM mast.

Instructions

Innovation is at the core of our products

High modulus full carbon mast and prepreg on a high density foam core.

TORAY M40J high modulus carbon offers incredible stiffness. It is a very high-end carbon, 4 to 6 times more expensive than the excellent prepreg, and which delivers high mechanical properties while remaining resistant. A carbon popular in aeronautics as well as for high-end sports equipment. Its mechanical characteristics such as its superior tensile strength and Young’s modulus make it possible to obtain exceptional performance on the water.

Used on 5 axes in our masts, the high modulus carbon locks flexions and all forms of torsion. Not that it cancels them, even if it reduces them enormously, but above all it allows a return to the initial shape in record time, guaranteeing the best possible dynamism. The steering is incredibly precise.

Prepreg carbon is carbon fabric that has been pre-impregnated with the exact amount of resin needed to achieve its best performance. The manufacturer of this high-end fabric freezes the set that we cut with templates. Then we apply layer after layer in the mould. When heated up, the resin takes on all of its bonding strength to bind the layers. So you have no excess resin, no drips, no defects that you might have if the resin was applied by hand. And above all, you have a dynamism boosted by a minimal quantity of resin which does not let the carbon “float” in an excess of resin. We have a maximum of carbon in the mix and therefore efficiency.

The Foam Core is an essential element because it allows us a clever mix of compression during molding to give maximum cohesion to the prepreg and high modulus carbon layers. It floats and it is waterproof. The whole thing is stronger and lighter than a full carbon mast, even if it may seem counter-intuitive.

We cut this Foam Core lengthwise in 2 pieces to insert a stringer halfway down the profile. This full carbon beam binds the two sides of the mast and works to block bending. The gain in rigidity is monstrous with this stringer which acts like on a surfboard. Have you ever surfed a board without a stringer? If so you can measure the gain in stiffness of this stringer in all our HM masts.

Everything is pressed and cooked in a steel mold, a real work of art at $25,000. Aluminum molds are more economical but deform, which is why we don’t use them. You will understand that performance involves investments that justify the slightly higher prices of our carbon masts, but still much cheaper than competing products.

Our foils are completely dismountable to adapt to all sports at a lower cost and gives you the possibility of replacing a damaged part. A complete catalog of spare parts is available, to allow you to make it compatible with multiple supports (surf/SUP/kite/wing), and to explore the entire range of use of the foil in each sport and at all levels.

Note on this subject that GONG is at the forefront of the development of foiling. We were at the origin of the creation of the largest foil factory that produces the major brands today. 18 months of intense work and dozens of tools developed. So don’t imagine that our foils are made in a dismal garage. We develop all our products according to the rules of the art, with many in-house engineers, passionate designers, cutting-edge 3D software, countless tests, with Team riders at the highest level. This is what allows us to offer low prices and refined products: we know what we are doing from A to Z.

NB: We do not sell foils designed by a freelancer. Our teams are stationed year-round in South Brittany / France and are dedicated to the development of our products. What could be better than a staff of 90 people who test all the gear and who listen to our customers? Well we also have a team on the most beautiful spots in the world which brings back victories in the World Cup. Job is done!

Buying guide

For whom?

It is the mast for the most demanding, for meticulous users, for fine technicians, because it is the very best.

This mast is intended for experienced riders. We therefore invite you to take the greatest care of it and not to equip yourself with it if you are a beginner.

What is it for?

The length of 85cm is intended primarily for wing foiling in freestyle and waveriding, but also for kite foiling because it is perfect in the waves. You can put the angle in curves without ventilating the tips, keep margins in the maneuvers, keep a good rail to rail, manage the chop and the angle of opposition at high speed.

Which carbon mast size?

The 85cm:

  • In surf foiling / SUP foiling: it’s really big when paddling and not super nice in the rail to rail without a sail. But in the big stuff it’s unstoppable: we need this margin to be totally comfortable.
  • In downwind: it is the perfect size for a high level of performance.
  • In wing foiling: perfect for freestyle, jumps, waves and control.
  • In kite foiling: useful in waves with shallow waters, and very versatile.

Which quiver?

This mast is suitable for all wings but we recommend mounting “high performance” wings on it to get the best out of it.

Foil positioning?

For GONG foils, place the plate in the rear third in surf, SUP and kite foiling, and in the middle of the US rails for wing foiling.

The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.

Included equipments

Screw kit :

  • 4 M6x30 torx screws with truss heads for the board.
  • 4 washers.
  • 4 square nuts for US-box.
  • 3 M6x30 torx screws with countersunk heads for the fuselage.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

If it’s available online: it’s available ?

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

Shipping Fees:

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Any questions:

We answer you within 24 hours by email. But 95% of your questions are answered on the site. Try to use our contact form which will guide you to all these answers.

Don’t forget to read the Forum, where thousands of users exchange information and experiences.

In any case, don’t panic. If you don’t get an answer during the weekend, it’s normal: the team is resting ?

We are passionate and professional in our job. Our only goal is to make you happy, as much as possible ?

Eco-responsible packaging:

Preserving the environment is a top priority. That’s why we are doing everything possible to reduce our environmental footprint.

The first thing is to sell quality products that will last, be repairable and will please you for a long time.

The second thing is to sell for less. Most of the pollution coming from a Board is in its use (the km driven to use it) and in the countless environmental damages you have to do to pay for it. Each euro spent is a sum of damage related to your life quite simply: eating, working hard etc… By reducing the price of our products, we significantly reduce your ecological footprint on this item.

For our shipments we use:

  • Flexi-Hex: ecological packaging of very high resistance.
  • Paper Craft Scotch Tape.
  • Final packaging made of high-end cardboard.

All this for:

  • Reusable and recyclable packaging.
  • An almost total reduction of single-use plastic.
  • Maximum protection and impact resistance thanks to the innovative design of Flexi-Hex honeycomb (35mm thick).

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Reception of your mast:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).
  • You want to change an item.
  • You have refused your package.

For each situation, contact us by our contact form to help you.

Tried my new 85 alu mast today and was so good length on bigger slopes 🙌
Normally on 72 hm but the 85 was so relaxed and bouncy in a good way 👌

  2. Anton

    Merci GONG
Mmmmmmmmmm a thing of beauty and worth the wait 😍😍😍😍
Great work with the packaging too – no plastic 👌

  3. thomas

the HM feels stiffer and faster after the upgrade from the already great v2 carbon mast – love it 🤩

Session Wing aujourd’hui …
Conclusion de la session : bluffant.

Big up to Patrice Guénolé et toute la team Gong …

  10. Yohann Roussel

  11. Mataio

You right GONG , this new mast thin and rigid high modulus carbon can boost your performance in waveriding and freestyle.

  12. Fabien

  13. Melvin
