Refusal

Better to not to go than to get yourself hurt. The worst solution when refusing a wave is to push the board forward and eject. You have nine chances out of ten to catch the wave anyway and you might have the board land on your head!!! The best solution is to realize you can’t catch it early and to pull the board back. Remember to warn others of your decision to not go so they can take their chance at catching it. You will make somebody happy. If, despite your efforts, you get picked up by the wave: jump to the side of your board, ideally feet first and flat. This is especially important when surfing over a reef. Never dive head first. Your worst enemy in case of a fall: your Fins. Always protect your head with your arms.
