GEAR: WHICH PADDLE FOR FLAT START?
Choose the ideal paddle that will give you the best performance when trying out a flat start in SUP foiling!
Choosing the right paddle is crucial for getting onto your foil using the strength of your arms and legs. In an exercise that requires perfect execution, it's important to consider the paddle's length, blade size, and the materials used.

The ideal paddle length: +5 cm above your height
For a flat start in SUP foiling, the paddle length plays a crucial role. Ideally, choose a paddle that is about +5 cm above your height. This allows for good arm lift and optimal power with each stroke while minimizing fatigue. A paddle that is too short or too long can quickly hinder performance.
Choose a full carbon, non-adjustable paddle
To maximize efficiency and responsiveness with each paddle stroke, full carbon is the material of choice. Lightweight, robust, and ultra-dynamic, it offers direct and efficient energy transmission, which is essential for paddling with the explosiveness needed to reach the speed that will make you take off. Adjustable paddles with multiple parts are heavier and have a less dynamic feel. Moving an extra 500g in the air with each movement is destabilizing and represents a huge effort. A basic adjustable paddle may be great for cruising but is not designed for human-powered flight due to its lack of dynamism.
Blade size
We offer three blade sizes in our Carbon Pro range, from the fastest to the most powerful. For SUP foil flat start, we recommend the 8” blade, which offers the best balance between explosiveness and paddling comfort. Lightweight paddlers under 65 kg might consider the 7” blade. For heavier paddlers who need more power to get out of the water, the 9” blade will provide the catch you need.
