Cet athlète de 21 ans a commencé sa carrière pro dans le Windsurf avant de commencer le SUP il y a environ 6 ans. Moritz détient un palmarès dont il peut être fier et qui démontre tout le talent de ce jeune athlète dans ces deux disciplines. De passage en France en ce début d’année, Moritz a fait un détour par La Baule pour récupérer son quiver de planches et a pu répondre à quelques questions : Hello Moritz, peux tu te présenter s’il te plait ? J’ai 21 ans. Je viens de Gran Canaria où je vis à l’année. Je viens du Windsurf et je passe à peu près 300 jours dans l’eau par an. Et peut être plus maintenant grâce au SUPFoil 😉 Depuis combien de temps pratiques tu le SUP ? Je pratique le SUP depuis 6 ans environ. La première fois, c’était sur un événement Windsurf. Il n’y avait pas de vent et les organisateurs m’ont donné une planche de SUP. J’ai adoré les sensations et j’ai continué à le pratiquer pendant un an comme un hobby avant de m’y mettre sérieusement et de commencer la compétition. Quel est ton palmarès en SUP ? 7 fois champions d’Allemagne. 5 fois en vagues et 2 fois en race. Quel est ton spot favori ? El Paso, c’est au Gran Canaria. Un très bon spot au large. C’est une vague qui offre une droite et une gauche puissantes. Quel spot rêverais tu de surfer en SUP? Il y en a beaucoup mais je pense à l’Indonésie. Je suis allé à Uluwatu, qui est un très bon spot. Mon rêve serait d’y surfer en SUP en étant seul sur le spot 😉 Quel est ton move favori ? Je pense un cut back parfait. Pour moi, c’est le meilleur move et aussi le plus dur à réaliser proprement. Tu peux faire autant de cut back que tu veux, le cut back parfait est très dur à réaliser. Quels sont tes projets dans le futur ? Premièrement, je veux apprendre à faire du foil en SUP. Je pense que les jours où le plan d’eau est flat ou trop agité, cela peut rendre les sessions beaucoup plus fun. Au niveau compétition, je veux participer au championnat d’Europe de SUP vagues en Allemagne et obtenir le meilleur résultat possible, ainsi que le championnat du monde , dont une étape se passe au Gran Canaria. Ce serait génial d’y participer sur mon home spot. Tu pratiques le SUP dans les vagues et en race. Que préfères tu ? Sans hésitation, surfer dans les vagues 😉 Quelle est ta planche de SUP préférée chez GONG Surfboards ? Je pense à l’Outlaw. Je n’ai jamais eu de gun auparavant, et je suis vraiment content d’en avoir un maintenant. Pour la compétition et au quotidien, la Curve PRO. Et au sujet du SUPFoil ? Je suis vraiment impatient car, comme je l’ai dis avant, les jours où tu ne peux pas aller dans l’eau à cause des conditions, le foil te permet d’y aller. Comme la possibilité d’aller découvrir un nouveau spot qui n’a jamais été possible de surfer en SUP. J’ai hâte de surfer en foil pour ça. Je pense également que c’est vraiment cool d’apprendre de nouvelles choses, car tu peux ressentir le fait que tu progresses tous les jours. Que peut on te souhaiter pour 2018 ? This athletic stud is 21 years old and started his Pro Windsurfing career before he started SUPing 6 years ago. Hello Moritz, can you introduce yourself please ? I’m 21 years old. I am from and live in Gran Canaria. I come from a Windsurf background. I spend about 300 days a year on the water. May be more this year thanks to the SUPFoil 😉 How long have you practiced SUP ? I’ve been practicing SUP since for 6 years. The First time was at a windsurf event. There was no wind and the organizers gave me a SUP board. I liked the feeling and I continued the first year practicing as a hobby, and then I took it more seriously and start competing. What are your in SUP Competition Wins? 7 times German Champion. 5 times in Waves and 2 times in Race. What’s your favorite spot ? El Paso, it’s in Gran Canaria, really good far outside spot. It’s a powerful right and left. What dream spot would you like to SUPsurf ? There’s a lot but I think in Indonesia. I’ve been in Uluwatu, perfect spot but I would like to stand up there with no surfers ;). That would be my dream ! What’s your favorite trick ? I think just to do a proper cut back, this must be the best trick and also the hardest to do. You can do how many cut back you want, the perfect cut back is so hard to do. What are your future projects ? First of all, I want learn properly how to foil (SUPFoil), because I think it can make flat or choppy days more fun. With Competition, I want to do in German European Championship Wave competition and try to get the best result possible and World Championship as well because there’s might be one in Gran Canaria, so it would be nice in my home spot! You practice SUP in waves and race as well. Which do you prefer ? Waves definitely. 😉 What’s your favorite SUP board from GONG Surfboards ? I think the gun Outlaw, I never had a gun, so I’m pretty glad to have one. And then the short SUP Curve for the competing and everything. And SUPFoiling? I feel really excited, because how I said before, I think the days you normally wouldn’t go into the water, it allows you to go into the water. And the possibility to go on a new spot that wouldn’t be found with a normal SUP, so I’m really looking forward to Foiling. I think it’s always good if you have to start to learn again something, because everyday you feel the improvement. What can we wish for you in 2018 ? No injuries and a lot of good waves. Last words ?
