The level in wing foiling is constantly evolving making the frontflip an essential move among the best riders. Beyond its technicality, it requires a great deal of commitment to throw yourself headfirst into a full flip. This is the key to its success because a frontflip cannot be half-heartedly attempted. You have to be fully committed. Once launched, everything goes very quickly so let’s have a look at it in slow motion. 😉
Wing foiler : Malo, GONG team rider, on the Droid, Lemon FSP Pro and Fluid H Pro Set-up.
Here are the other key points of this move:
Be well set in your footstraps if you don’t want your board to do a double frontflip, but without you…
Have a good speed and a well powered wing to take off high ‘cause you need some height to complete the rotation. Help yourself with a small ramp.
Tuck your head into your shoulders, looking behind you. Use the Wing as a support to regroup your body, head in the shoulders and legs bent. It’s about swinging your body around the axis of the central strut. In a frontflip you don’t sheet in with the back handle as you would for a front loop. You should only wrap yourself around the central strut by bringing the board under the buttocks.
On contact with the water, raise your wing to rebalance yourself.
