GEAR: WHICH PUMP FOIL IS THE BEST UPGRADE AFTER THE TRAIL?

To upgrade your setup, start by identifying what is holding you back.
You are consistently taking off with your Trail pack, you are in control of your speed and want to extend your flights? A logical progression comes in two stages: first gain efficiency with the stabilizer, then choose a front wing suited to your new goals.

When is the right time to upgrade?
Still having inconsistent takeoffs, losing your balance or struggling to maintain your rhythm? The priority is to keep refining your technique to find the right stance and make your pumping movement more confident and consistent.
Once you know how to generate speed and fly confidently, but physical effort is forcing you to shorten your runs, upgrading your gear becomes relevant. Be careful though: getting tired quickly can also come from an inefficient technique. Mastery matters more than the number of sessions or a stopwatch.
First upgrade: a stabilizer to get more out of your Trail
Before replacing the front wing, start with the stabilizer. The Hyper Trail and Supra Trail allow you to move from very smooth and forgiving pumping to a more fluid pumping feel. They improve the glide and efficiency of your Trail without making it too difficult to control.
- The Hyper Trail tail wing for more glide and maneuverability. This rear wing frees up your lines while retaining low-end performance and support when pumping. Ideal for fun, playful pumping or for riders looking for greater versatility.
- The Supra Trail tail wing to maximize flight time. This rear wing prioritizes glide and energy efficiency. The right choice if you simply want to fly for longer.
What about the Ultra Trail tail wing? It is the most efficient model for pumping because it builds speed and requires less energy to make the foil oscillate, but it is also the most technical.
It provides very little feedback underfoot. So if your pumping technique is not yet well mastered, it can be difficult to understand how to generate speed efficiently. We recommend it more for experienced pump foilers looking to beat their personal records.
Which size, shaft and shim?
Choose the stabilizer size according to the size of your front wing. In foiling, change one element at a time so you can clearly identify its effect.
We recommend an M tail shaft and a 0° shim because this configuration provides the best glide while keeping the foil intuitive and controlled. This is the default configuration offered with the complete tail wing packs.

Second upgrade: a front wing based on what you want to do
You have mastered your Trail with this new stabilizer: your pumping is consistent, you can maintain your speed and you end your runs by choice or because of fatigue. A new front wing can then open up new possibilities.
- Trail Team Series: You keep the forgiveness and lift of the Trail Perf Series for easy takeoffs from a wide range of spots, but with glide and maneuverability on another level. A wing that can easily double the length of your runs.
- Hyper Trail Pro Team Series: Prioritizes acceleration and slalom for fast, playful pumping. A wing that makes glide highly accessible. Depending on the size, it also allows medium-distance runs.
- Supra Trail Pro Team Series: Step into long-distance pumping and go from dock to dock with easy, forgiving pumping, without having to relearn everything.
These foils are not mandatory steps: choose the one that matches your riding. If you also practice other disciplines such as SUP foiling or wing foiling, the versatile Sirus wings are also excellent options for upgrading your pumping foil.
- The Sirus Perf Series focuses on huge lift and an aspect ratio that increases with size, up to 20, for early takeoffs and covering long distances with little energy. Highly efficient for pumping, it retains all the versatility of the Sirus program for light-wind wing foiling, SUP foiling, surf foiling and lowkite.
- The Sirus Team Series pushes the Sirus concept even further: huge lift, very early takeoff and glide that helps preserve your energy over very long distances. Its HM carbon construction increases stiffness and efficiency to convert every pump into speed.
Pump foiler: Valentin, GONG staff, on the Kluber HDC and Trail Team Series front wing.
Mistakes to avoid
- Changing the front wing straight away. Keeping the Trail stabilizer limits the efficiency gains of a higher-performance wing while making takeoffs and pumping more demanding. Upgrade the stabilizer first.
- Upgrading too early. Make sure you know how to maintain your speed and stay in flight. Gear supports a mastered technique, it does not replace it.
- Choosing something too demanding. A stabilizer or front wing that is too small, or an expert model like the Ultra Trail, will shorten your flights and slow your progression. A more accessible foil will often take you further.
