Description

Programme

The Steve is a concentration of seventies single fin glide, with the assets and style of a mid-length.

Overview

At first glance, the Steve is surprising, because it is far removed from conventional lines. A shape almost untouched by trends and influences. And yet this modern shape draws its lines from decades of surf history and culture. And if surfing is a way of expressing yourself, you have to accept that you will not go unnoticed, because the Steve boldly and unapologetically asserts its originality.

Feet centred on the deck, one hand gliding through the water, with a certain nonchalance, the Steve is made for drawing down-the-line lines and laying into long rail turns.

The Steve is the antithesis of the modern shortboard: you do not pump, you do not stack tricks. Put simply, it sits at the opposite end of the spectrum from skate influences. It is a board to be savoured. You drop in early, glide effortlessly, put the board on rail through your carves, and experience the essence of surfing.

Of course, you can draw rounded lines, break the curves with powerful carves, the Steve's surfing range is incredibly complete. But what will really make you go “wow” is a beautiful cheater hang five in the pocket, basta!

Having style in surfing is not just a matter of appearance, because it is also and above all a matter of performance, the essence of which lies in the ability to be fast and to generate speed through manoeuvres. The Steve's shape is designed to make that glide easier with its very low tail rocker. With that speed, all that remains is to enjoy a glide that is naturally aesthetic.

Shape
OUTLINE

The outline is sleek, with a generous rounded point nose that still keeps a slight point. Combined with the forward wide point, it delivers excellent paddling comfort without ever feeling cumbersome. The volume stays comfortable, without excessive width: you paddle fast, position yourself easily in the peak, and get all the qualities of a mid-length for catching waves early.

ROCKER

The very low tail rocker enhances glide and natural speed. The board accelerates effortlessly, carries speed and lets you surf without constantly pumping. That’s what creates that pure flow feeling: you pick your line, let it run and the speed comes naturally.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The shallow channels add just the right amount of hold and character without slowing the glide. This groovy-inspired bottom shape brings more control, more precise handling and cleaner drive under the back foot. It works with the single fin without disrupting its fluidity.

TAIL

The wide squash tail uses a shape widely found on performance shortboards, but scaled up for a mid-length. It boosts glide, adds lift, stability and immediate speed build-up. The last ten centimetres are heavily foiled out to avoid excess buoyancy at high speed and keep the board feeling balanced.

RAILS

The generous volume stays under control so it never weighs down the ride. You still get enough float to paddle fast and get in early, but without any unnecessary width that would hurt the flow. This distribution makes for a board that's easy to get going, enjoyable to ride and smooth through long carving turns.

Single Tab connection: simple, direct and solid

The Single Tab system features a single, extended base on each fin. This design creates a solid connection with the fin box, making installation simple, fin changes quick, and power transfer exceptionally direct.

On the water, the benefits are immediate. The board responds instantly, the fins work without unwanted play, and every input translates into drive, grip and control. This is especially valuable on high performance boards, where precise feedback is essential at high speeds and through committed turns.

The Single Tab system also makes it easy to fine tune your setup for different conditions. Changing fin size, template or flex lets you refine the board's feel in just a few moments. It provides a clean, durable and efficient connection, allowing you to unlock the full potential of the shape.

Good to know: Single Tab fin boxes are only compatible with Single Tab fins.

Key benefits:

  • Simple installation and quick fin changes.
  • Direct connection for immediate response underfoot.
  • Excellent drive, grip and control through powerful turns.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Steve is aimed at surfers who want to rediscover the pure glide of a single fin, the style of seventies lines and the comfort of a modern mid-length.

It is made for intermediate to experienced surfers who want to surf with more flow, less rush and a lot more style in their lines.

What for?

To get in early, glide effortlessly and draw long down the line lines.

The Steve is not a board for constant pumping or chaining tricks. It invites you to slow the tempo, choose your line, put the board on rail through your carves and enjoy a simple, aesthetic and essential glide.

What board size?

Choose a size that gives you enough comfort to make the most of its programme: easy paddling, early take-off and long glide.

A more compact size will give you a more manoeuvrable, more playful ride.

A longer size will bring more glide, more natural speed and more drawn-out carves.

What are the ideal waves?

The Steve loves clean waves, long shoulders, point breaks and sections that let you draw your line.

It also works very well in soft to medium waves thanks to its low tail rocker, planing glide and paddling comfort. It will be less suited to very vertical waves or conditions that call for highly reactive surfing.

Which construction?

In PU, the Steve gains inertia, comfort and smooth glide. It is the most natural choice to enjoy a classic, composed and fluid single fin feel.

In EPS, it becomes lighter, livelier and easier to build speed again. It is a good choice for clean small waves and surfers who want more responsiveness underfoot.

What fin setup?

The Steve is ridden as a single fin. That setup gives it its whole identity: less drag, more glide, progressive acceleration and a very fluid ride.

Choose a fin with enough area to keep hold through big drawn-out lines. A straighter fin will give more pivot, while a fin with more rake will favour long carves and flow.

Which shape should you choose?

Choose the Steve if you want a board built for style, glide and long lines, with a true seventies single fin feel.

Choose an Indra if you want a more versatile mid-length, more modern in its carves and less single fin-oriented.

Choose a Carter if you want a more adaptable board, with several fin setups and a broader programme.

The Steve is the choice for pure glide, flow and unapologetic style: a board to savour rather than force.

Which bag?

What level of surfer is it for?

It’s aimed at intermediate to experienced surfers who want to surf with more style, more flow and less rush. It asks you to read the wave and choose your lines.

What kind of surfing does the Steve offer?

The Steve invites you to slow the tempo down, draw clean lines down the line, put it on rail and stretch out your carves. This isn’t a board made for constant pumping or stacking tricks.

What kind of waves does it work best in?

It loves clean waves, long shoulders, point breaks and open sections. It lets you make the most of its natural speed and long lines.

Does it work well in small waves?

Yes. Its low tail rocker, glide and paddling comfort let it get in early and keep its speed in soft to medium waves.

What are the tail channels for?

The shallow channels add grip and control without slowing the glide. They complement the single fin and make the board more precise to ride as speed builds.
