Wing leashes are specifically designed for safe wingfoiling, keeping you securely connected to a flotation device at all times.

Is It Important to Wear a Wing Leash?

Leashes are essential safety gear — they’re what keep you connected to a buoyant object, potentially allowing you to go without a life jacket.

On land, they let you secure your wing to a fixed point, your pump, your wrist, or a waist leash while inflating, preventing it from flying away.

Once on the water, give yourself the best possible chance of staying safe — swimming after your wing is extremely difficult. Losing your wing is a situation you want to avoid, especially when you're being carried by swell, current, or wind.

During falls or when returning to shore, your wing, board, and foil can pose a danger to others. Staying in control with a leash is essential.

Your wing will also "thank you" — especially in reef breaks or rocky zones where waves hit hard.

Most wing leashes are worn on the wrist, making it easier to recover your wing during crashes or handling errors. They also offer greater freedom of movement. In some cases, the leash can be attached directly to a harness, though this setup is more suited for specific disciplines like freestyle rotations.

Important: A leash should be replaced once a year, or immediately if any visible damage appears. Check it regularly and avoid letting it deteriorate.

Which Leash Should You Choose for Your Wing?

We offer three types of wing leashes:

The Coiled Leash

The cord of the coiled leash is spiraled like a telephone cable, offering extra comfort and convenience — a must-have for all your wing sessions.

Its design helps prevent the cord from wrapping around your arms during maneuvers. To keep it from slipping on your wrist, we’ve added a 3D silicone print inside the cuff for better grip.

In case of emergency, it’s equipped with a quick-release system for fast and easy detachment.

The Coiled BIG WAVE Leash

This wrist leash is specifically designed for wingfoiling in large waves.

Its reinforced 7mm cord provides greater strength, allowing you to ride confidently in powerful, demanding conditions.

The quick-release loop lets you free yourself quickly if needed.

The leash cuff is sized for wrist attachment, but can also be clipped to the back loop of your harness.

The inner neoprene lining is soft, comfortable, and non-stick, allowing the strap to rotate freely around your wrist for greater freedom of movement.

The Dyneema Leash

A minimalist, ultra-lightweight Dyneema wrist leash designed for winging.

At 50% lighter than our coiled leashes, this new design might just become your favorite wing accessory.

Its low weight offers a real comfort advantage while riding and is also ideal for travel, helping you keep your boardbag weight down.

The cuff fits the wrist but can also be attached to the back loop of your harness if preferred.

The soft neoprene lining is comfortable and non-stick, letting the strap move freely around your wrist. A swivel helps prevent the leash from twisting.

And of course, the quick-release loop allows for fast detachment in case of emergency.

What Leash Length Should You Choose?

The length of your wing leash should match the surface area of your wing — allowing you to easily maneuver around it once you're in the water.

Here are our recommendations:

5'5 leash for wings from 2m² to 5.5m²
7'0 or 8'0 leash for wings from 6m² to 9m²

How to Properly Attach Your Leash

Properly attaching your leash is essential. The action may seem trivial, but if done incorrectly, it can have serious consequences.

A wingfoiler who loses their board or wing offshore will have a very hard time getting it back. In strong wind, which pushes the board or lifts the wing, it quickly becomes impossible without assistance. So follow these tips carefully to attach your leashes properly.

Before getting in the water, attach the wrist leash to your wing.

It fastens without the cord, directly using the Velcro on the attachment point located at the front of the wing.

For Dyneema leashes, it attaches with a lark’s head knot directly onto the wing.

Important note:

Keep in mind that in case of trouble, your leashes are your only lifeline to your gear.
It’s important never to overlook this point and to regularly check the condition of your leashes.
If you ride often, we recommend replacing your leash at least once a year.

It is important to regularly check your leash to detect a crack, cut or lack of elasticity. At the slightest sign of damage, it is important to change your leash to avoid any accident.

A leash must be changed every year, or at the slightest visible fault.

How to maintain your leash ?

Once you get home, the first thing to do is rinse it with fresh water. The salinity of seawater will attack materials such as the velcro, as well as the swivels (metal parts which connect the rope to the attachment system).

When to replace your leash ?

On the vast majority of leashes, the rope is made of Urethane. As this material is sensitive to UV rays, it is best not to leave it in the sun for too long.

A leash deteriorates rapidly, despite appearances, and should be renewed at least once a year.

When subjected to intense stress, any leash deforms. These repeated stresses and deformations will cause the leash to lose its elasticity, and will ultimately lead to its breakage. So even if it visually appears to be in good condition, consider changing it if it shows signs of stretching.

Replace it at the first signs of wear. This could be: worn hook and loop or micro cuts in the rope. It’s about your safety, that of those around you, and the durability of your wing.
