Description

Programme

The Droid RH 2027 is built to send hard, turn fast and get going early in light wind.

Overview

The Droid RH 2027 is a compact, lively and precise wing, designed to accelerate hard, send it in freestyle and keep plenty of freedom through maneuvers. It combines easy-to-use power with direct handling and a format that stays unobtrusive around the rider.

As soon as you sheet in, the Droid delivers solid, stable support to accelerate, load up for a jump or build speed after a transition. The power stays well oriented and easy to read, with a locked-in wing feel that lets you commit without getting overpowered by the pull.

Its compact format also helps make the most of light wind. The surface area is concentrated in the centre and towards the front to keep strong response when pumping, get up early and regain speed efficiently through lulls, while still keeping the wing maneuverable.

In tricks, transitions and surf, the open, refined tips bring a light, highly mobile feel. The wing turns quickly, repositions naturally and keeps good glide to link changes of direction smoothly.

The specific handle strut is designed to deliver a progressive response when the wing loads up. The back hand position, more integrated into the wing, brings control, comfort and precision in committed phases as well as on long reaches.

The Droid RH 2027 brings together pop, speed, compactness and maneuverability in a wing made to ride hard, progress in freestyle and keep real efficiency across a wide range of conditions.

GONG | Wing Droid RH - Perf Series
Shape
Strut

The Droid RH 2027 features a strut specifically designed for handles, built to deliver precise, consistent and easy-to-predict handling. Its triple-section construction lets the strut flex progressively as the wing loads up, while its diameter tapers towards the rear to maintain a smooth, even response. The handle anchor points are brought closer to boom geometry to keep a consistent feel across setups. The rear hand, set further into the wing, provides a natural and comfortable position.

Profile

The Droid RH 2027 features a slightly tighter profile at the front to slice through the air more efficiently and unlock acceleration. The draft is focused at a precise point to deliver solid, instantly recognisable drive in your hands. Over the rear two thirds, the profile has been deliberately refined to limit nose-down torque and lighten the back hand. The wing therefore stays stable, fast and progressive, with sheeting that is easy to control.

Outline

The Droid RH 2027 keeps the same wingspan and overall chord, but redistributes the surface area towards the centre and front of the wing. This geometry delivers better-directed pull, torque and crisp acceleration, while preserving the compact format that defines the Droid’s DNA. Pumping feels more responsive, the pop is easy to load, and the wing keeps its lift once airborne.

Tips

The tips of the Droid RH 2027 feature a natural opening that lets them spill more effectively under load and allows the profile to breathe. Their refined shape reduces inertia at the wingtips, which lightens the overall feel and speeds up direction changes. The wing gains in glide, upwind ability and responsiveness, with quicker rotations and more natural repositioning.

100% backward-compatible GFS system

At GONG, backward compatibility is at the heart of our product development. No customer should be left behind without a solution. That’s why we’ve worked hard to offer booms that still fit our first-generation 2023 GFS wings.

More than a promise, it’s a fact. No adapter needed: simply swap your 2023 boom for this excellent clip-in boom.

Image
Image

Panoramic view

Clear visibility is essential for safety, which is why we’ve designed the wing to give you a panoramic view from your riding position.
Four large PVC windows centered on the canopy, plus a PVC window on the sail panel, give you an exceptional view at a glance.
These PVC panels integrate seamlessly into the wing’s profile and are highly resistant to cold and creasing.

Shape updates

The Droid RH 2027’s shape is designed around a clear goal: turn power into acceleration, pop, and control without making the wing harder to handle.

The forward profile is slightly tighter, with the draft moved forward and more concentrated to provide firm, locked-in support that’s immediately usable. The rear two-thirds are intentionally flatter to reduce load on your back hand, free up glide, and maintain a progressive response when sheeting in and out.

More of the surface area is distributed through the center and toward the front, without changing the overall wingspan or chord. This geometry preserves the Droid’s compact size while adding torque, acceleration, pop, and hang time. The more open, slimmer wingtips spill power more effectively under load, reduce inertia, and make the wing quick to rotate, light in your hands, and effective upwind.

The new handle-specific strut completes the balance with a three-section design and gradually decreasing diameter, for progressive, predictable flex under load. The result is a compact, fast, responsive Droid with a more locked-in feel and natural handling for freestyle and committed freeride.

Image

One Pump Max Flow System

The new Max Flow System improves airflow between the leading edge and the center strut with a redesigned valve and a higher-flow One Pump hose. Air transfers faster during inflation, helping the wing pressurize more efficiently and evenly.

The system retains the simplicity of One Pump while reducing setup time before your session. Once the wing is inflated, you can still shut off airflow between the bladders to isolate them.

Image

Six micro battens

The Droid RH 2027 now has six micro battens, up from four, for better trailing-edge stability.

The added support reduces flutter and helps the wing hold its shape as speed or load increases.

The result is smooth, consistent handling and more controlled pull, even during demanding maneuvers.

Perf Series Wing technology

Building a great wing takes more than choosing quality materials. It’s the result of years of development, testing, on-water feedback, and daily collaboration with one of the world’s leading specialized kite and wing manufacturers.

With each new generation, we’ve refined every step of production to create wings that stay true to the original design, deliver consistent quality from one wing to the next, and maintain their performance over time. Panels are precision-cut digitally. Strategic reinforcements are assembled with automated processes where they improve consistency, while complex closing and finishing work remains in the hands of experienced craftspeople.

This combination of industrial precision and skilled handwork lets us control every detail of construction, including in the areas that take the most stress. Each wing then undergoes rigorous quality control, including a 24-hour pressure test before approval.
We choose materials with the same care, favoring proven options that deliver stiffness, performance, durability, and repairability. The goal isn’t just to build a wing that performs well when new, but one that remains reliable, repairable, and enjoyable to use season after season.

Key features:

  • Stiff, durable DP175LL Dacron leading edge and strut.
  • Premium 54 g/m² triple-ripstop canopy fabric designed to prevent tears from spreading.
  • Insignia reinforcements on all seams for improved durability.
  • 1680D nylon tip savers to protect the wingtips from abrasion.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Droid RH is aimed at riders who are already independent and want to move to a compact wing that is lively, responsive and highly maneuverable to bring more energy into their riding.

It is ideal for progressing in freestyle, sending your first jumps, accelerating in freeride or surfing with a wing that repositions quickly.

Its solid power delivery and well-balanced behaviour also make it accessible to an intermediate rider who wants to move towards a more committed style without choosing a radical wing.

To fully discover wing foiling, the Plus remains more suitable. As soon as you are looking for pop, quick rotations and more response, the Droid really comes into its own.

What for?

The Droid is made for surf-freestyle, tricks, jumps and committed freeride.

Its forward draft provides solid support to load the wing, accelerate and generate pop. Its more open rear profile promotes glide and reduces back-hand pressure, allowing you to ride fast without ending up with a physically demanding wing.

Its compact outline and reduced wingspan make pumping, rotations and repositioning easier. It also retains good low-end power in light wind, helping you get up early and build speed efficiently through the lulls.

In the waves, its refined tips let you change line quickly and keep a light wing in your hands.

Understanding our wing range:

Plus: the wing to learn, progress and do everything easily with.

Droid: the compact, dynamic wing for freestyle, jumps, surf and committed freeride.

Neutra: the wing focused on wave riding and freefly, with a very neutral feel when the wing is flagged out.

If you want an easy, versatile wing, choose the Plus. If you are looking for pop, speed and maneuverability, choose the Droid. If your absolute priority is surf and freefly, the Neutra will be the most specialised.

What size should you choose?

The right size mainly depends on your weight, your level, your board, your foil and the wind you usually ride in.

The Droid has enough low-end power that you do not need to systematically oversize. A compact wing is particularly interesting in freestyle: it turns quickly, gets in the way less during rotations and repositions easily on landings.

For light wind or freeride, a larger size will give you more margin for take-off and through the lulls. For jumps and tricks, choose a size with enough power to load the wing, while still matching the wind so you keep control and maneuverability.

The board and foil have a huge influence on this choice. A high-lift foil and a board that gets up to speed early allow you to use a smaller wing size in the same wind.

Which foil with the Droid?

Your foil choice will strongly define the character of your combo. A maneuverable foil will emphasise the surf-freestyle side of the Droid, while a foil focused on glide will turn its acceleration into speed and efficiency.

To keep progressing with an accessible setup, the Ascent offers a good balance of lift, speed and maneuverability. It lets you work on transitions, first jumps and line changes with a progressive foil without making the combo too technical.

For surf, carving and fluid freeride, the Curve works perfectly with the Droid. Its ability to hold speed through carves lets you ease off the wing and let the foil do the work, while still keeping enough maneuverability to link line changes.

The Fluid is particularly well matched to a committed surf-freestyle style. Its responsiveness and turning speed directly follow the rider's input. Combined with the compactness of the Droid, it creates a lively combo that loves to turn, accelerate and link maneuvers.

If your priority is speed, upwind ability and glide, the Veloce delivers more efficiency. It holds its speed between maneuvers and lets you fully exploit the Droid's acceleration on long reaches.

In light wind, a Veloce Light Wind makes take-off easier while still keeping speed once flying. It significantly extends the low end without turning the combo into a slow setup or one dedicated only to small conditions.

The Sirus is for those who want to push light wind even further. Its strong lift at low speed allows you to fly in very little wind, especially when paired with a board with excellent glide.

Finally, choose the right size too: a large front wing makes take-off and slow flight easier, while a smaller size frees up speed, carving and maneuverability.

Which board with the Droid?

Your board choice should let you make the most of the Droid's compact character while staying consistent with your level.

To keep stability during progression, the Lance offers a reassuring platform while still being compact enough to start developing a more dynamic riding style. It lets you approach transitions and first jumps without immediately moving to a demanding board.

The Mint is a particularly natural match with the Droid. Compact and responsive, it lets you work on freeride, surf and freestyle with a board that reacts instantly to rider input and easily follows changes of direction.

The Lemon pushes the combo further towards dynamic freeride and carving. It suits the independent rider who wants a precise, responsive board capable of making the most of the Droid's speed.

To extend the low end, the Cruzader Diamond brings a huge amount of glide before take-off. Its length allows you to reach foil take-off speed quickly, so you can get up with less pumping and less power in the wing. It also allows you to use a relatively compact Droid in light conditions.

If light wind becomes the absolute priority, the Cruzader Point LW pushes that logic even further. Paired with a large Droid and a high-lift foil, it lets you turn very little wind into take-off speed.

Volume remains essential: a high-volume board brings comfort and security on starts, while lower volume gradually frees up rider input and control in jumps. A long, narrow board will favour glide and early take-off.

In short: Lance for steady progression, Mint for versatile surf-freestyle, Lemon for dynamic freeride, and Cruzader to maximise glide and light wind performance.

Soft handles, semi-rigid handles, rigid handles, or boom?

The Droid RH is designed around rigid handles to deliver a direct and precise connection with the wing. They instantly transmit the rider's input when pumping, changing line and loading the wing before a jump.

The GFS system still allows you to evolve the setup according to your preferences.

Soft textile handles prioritise lightness, comfort and protection, especially in surf and freefly.

Semi-rigid handles offer a middle ground between textile comfort and steering precision.

Rigid handles provide very direct control, with two clearly defined hand positions and a high level of precision in committed phases.

The boom offers a continuous grip and allows you to reposition your hands instantly. This is particularly interesting in transitions, rotations and tricks where you need to find your new grip quickly.

The new strut geometry on the Droid RH brings the feel of handle and boom setups closer together. So you can evolve your grip setup without completely changing the wing's feel.

Which leash?

A 5'5 to 8' wing leash will suit most uses.

A short leash lets you recover the wing quickly after a fall, which is particularly useful in freestyle when attempts come one after another. A longer leash leaves more distance between the foil and the wing during a fall.

Check its condition regularly and replace it as soon as it shows signs of wear. The leash is an essential part of your safety setup.

Do not leave your wing flapping unnecessarily in the wind at the end of the leash, and never try to stop the wing abruptly by the leash in the waves.

Harness or not?

The Droid works perfectly without a harness for freestyle, surf and highly mobile sessions, where you want to move the wing freely and change position quickly.

For fast freeride, long reaches or when you are well powered up, a harness will significantly reduce arm fatigue and let you make the most of the wing's power for longer.

All our wings feature dedicated attachment points for harness lines. Start with a generous length to make hooking in and out easier, then gradually reduce the length as you gain experience.

Choose a lightweight, low-bulk harness and a thin line dedicated to wing use. The goal is to relieve the arms without limiting freedom of movement, especially in transitions and tricks.

Lines with 24 to 28 cm between the strut and the bottom of the V will be perfect. A length of 30 to 32 cm makes getting started easier. A small-diameter rope and thin sheath are essential because windsurf lines, for example, are too heavy and stiff, and therefore dangerous in tacks and other tricks.

Need a replacement bladder?

Bladders, valves and other components remain available as spare parts so you can repair and maintain your Droid over time.

Refer to the bladder compatibility guide to identify the correct reference according to your wing's model, size and year.

Already equipped: why add a Droid to your quiver?

The Droid becomes particularly interesting when your riding starts getting more dynamic and a general-purpose wing begins to limit your ambitions in freestyle, jumps or surf.

If you already own a Plus, the Droid can become your wing for sending it, while the Plus remains ideal when ease and versatility are your priority.

If you already ride a Neutra, the two programmes complement each other perfectly: the Neutra prioritises neutrality and freefly in the waves, while the Droid brings more support, pop and response for tricks and jumps.

It can therefore become the dynamic piece in your quiver, the one you choose when the session calls for acceleration, rotations, jumps and committed handling.

5 windows

The DROID RH 2027 incorporates five windows distributed throughout the sail to maintain good environmental awareness without disrupting the wing's behavior.

Their position allows them to better anticipate other practitioners, obstacles and trajectories during starts, transitions or close navigation.

A real plus for learning, progressing and navigating with peace of mind, while keeping a wing light, balanced and easy to pilot.

Integrated harness end attachment system

Two discreet attachment points, directly integrated into the slat, allow for easy installation of a GONG harness end .

Their positioning is optimized to maintain good traction balance and effectively relieve the arms on long tacks .

This allows you to sail for longer periods, with less fatigue, without hindering the handling or piloting of the wing.

Semi-rigid downwind textile handle

Almost rigid, the downwind handle offers a more precise and direct grip to improve wing control in freefly and surfing.

It allows for better one-handed control of the wing while maintaining enough flexibility to remain comfortable during windless sailing phases.

The new oval seams and added reinforcements at the anchor points distribute stress more effectively on the leading edge, in order to improve the overall durability.

The Dyneema leash attachment is now positioned on the underside of the handle. This keeps the leash better away from the grip area and less of an obstruction to the hands during freeflying.

Rapid inflation with the One Pump Max Flow system

The leading edge and center strut are connected by the One Pump system to quickly inflate the entire wing from a single valve . Once the wing is pressurized, the clip allows the two bladders to be isolated to maintain the wing's buoyancy in case of damage to the strut or leading edge.

A second valve is integrated into the ski to speed up deflation. Simply open the valves on the leading edge and the ski to quickly release the air and facilitate folding and storage.

To preserve the wing's structure, always deflate the strut at the same time as the leading edge and do not leave the strut under pressure on its own.

Fiberglass micro-slats

Fiberglass micro-battens are integrated into the trailing edge to effectively limit flapping and maintain the profile to the tip of the sail.

They stabilize the trailing edge, improve profile stability and promote cleaner flow to maintain a precise and efficient wing, even as speed increases.

Lightweight, durable and easily replaceable , they also allow you to easily maintain your wing and extend its performance over time.

Camera safety loops

Discreet nylon safety ties are integrated on each tip and near the strut to secure your camera when mounted on the leading edge or slat with a suitable mount.

Their positioning is designed to keep the leash out of the camera's field of view and prevent any interference while riding. This allows you to film your sessions from multiple angles, maintaining a clean and secure setup, without the risk of losing your camera in case of a fall.

Repair kit

A repair kit is included with your wing to perform common repairs and extend its lifespan.

It includes patches adapted to bladders and fabrics , practical for quick intervention in case of small perforation, cut or tear.

Carrying bag

The wing comes with a practical and robust carrying bag, designed to facilitate storage, transport and storage between sessions.

Its generous size allows for easy storage of the folded wing and its accessories, while its compact design simplifies transport to the spot and minimizes bulk in the vehicle or at home. Please note that the bag is not compatible with a wing that has the boom attached.

10 years of spare parts

At GONG, durability is part of the design specifications from the outset. But making a wing last also means being able to maintain and repair it over time.

That is why we are committed to offering the components necessary for the maintenance of our wings for 10 years : bladders, valves, fabrics and specific parts remain accessible to extend the lifespan of your equipment as much as possible.

If needed, you have two options:

  1. Our GONG workshop can diagnose your wing and carry out the necessary repairs.
  2. Spare parts are available to order so you can carry out maintenance yourself or entrust the repair to your usual workshop.

If a product is temporarily unavailable, we will do our best to restock it as soon as possible.

A well-maintained wing remains efficient for longer, retains its value and can continue to sail for many years, including second-hand.

Frequent questions
Who is the Droid RH 2027 for?

The Droid RH 2027 is aimed at riders who are already independent and looking for a compact, lively and maneuverable wing to fast-track their progression in freestyle, jumps, surf and committed freeride.

Its shape remains intuitive and progressive enough to support an intermediate rider, but its real potential comes through when you start looking for pop, speed and fast rotations.

What is the difference between the Droid RH 2027 and the Droid 2026?

The Droid RH 2027 keeps the Droid’s compact, dynamic DNA, but its profile works differently.

The draft is more concentrated towards the front to provide solid support and better direct the pull, while the rear two-thirds carry less depth to lighten the back hand and free up the glide.

The tips have also been opened up and refined to spill power more effectively under load and reduce inertia. Lastly, the new handle-specific strut delivers a progressive, precise and predictable feel.

On the water, the wing accelerates easily, stays more settled and keeps its lively character without becoming physical.

Is it a good wing for beginners?

That’s not its main purpose. A complete beginner will generally progress more easily with a Plus, which focuses more on forgiveness and simplicity from the very first sessions.

The Droid becomes particularly interesting as soon as you’re self-sufficient with take-offs, flying and your lines. It then lets you move quickly into transitions, first jumps, freestyle and more dynamic riding.

Is it suitable for freestyle and jumps?

Yes, this is one of its main uses.

Its compact outline keeps bulk to a minimum during rotations, while the forward draft provides solid support to load the wing before the pop. The area positioned in the centre-front boosts torque and acceleration before take-off. Once in the air, the refined tips reduce inertia and make rotations easier, while the well-directed pull enhances hangtime and control on landing.

How does it perform in light wind?

The Droid retains solid low-end power despite its compact format.

The surface area is concentrated in the centre and towards the front to generate torque when pumping and get the board up and going quickly. Its compact wingspan also allows for efficient movements without having to handle a large wing.

Once flying, its high-glide profile helps you accelerate and punch through lulls. Paired with a board with strong glide and a high-lift foil, the Droid can therefore make for a highly efficient combo in light wind.

How does it handle when the wind picks up?

Its refined rear profile and open tips allow the Droid to naturally release power as pressure builds.

The flatter rear two-thirds reduce back-hand load and nose-down pitching moment, while sheeting remains progressive. The tips can spill more effectively under load without excessively closing the profile. The Droid therefore stays locked-in and controllable at high speed, without feeling like a wing that is constantly pulling on your arms.

Why is the new RH strut important?

The strut on the Droid RH 2027 has been specifically designed around the rigid handles.

Its triple-section construction allows the strut to work progressively under load, while its diameter tapers steadily towards the rear to maintain a consistent response.

The rear hand position is also more fully integrated into the wing to deliver a natural, comfortable stance. The result: direct, precise handling that’s easy to anticipate, both when pumping and in committed maneuvers.

Can the Droid RH 2027 be used with a boom?

Yes.

The GFS system lets you swap the handles for a compatible boom. The geometry of the RH strut has specifically been brought closer to that of the boom version to maintain consistent hand positions and handling when you change configuration. This lets you evolve your wing to suit your preferences without having to switch to a completely different wing.
