Programme

The adjustable carbon Tail Wing that maximises support, control and rail-to-rail freedom for radical surfing in all types of waves.

Overview

The Ypra Surf Carve V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is designed to commit fully into carves while keeping the foil precise, stable and totally under control.

Its moderate 7.5 aspect ratio delivers the best compromise between support, glide and manoeuvrability. It holds acceleration without becoming too cumbersome through rail changes, allowing you to tighten your carve radius significantly and link turns quickly.

Its relatively thin, powerful profile delivers precise pressure under the front foot. It stabilises pitch, lets you load up your carves with confidence, and strongly supports speed build-up without locking the foil in as speed increases.

This support prevents pitch from running into oscillations when the rider pushes hard through the bottom turn, crosses whitewater or gets hit by a sudden acceleration. The foil stays settled and pressure can be maintained all the way through the exit of the turn.

Its refined outline through the tips frees up yaw and speeds up rail-to-rail transitions. The surface area concentrated in the centre keeps strong support at the core and creates a very clear pivot point around which the foil rolls into carves.

Its slight actual negative anhedral improves glide and makes high-speed turn entry easier. The thin tips reduce peripheral drag so you can correct, tighten or extend a line without fighting the tail wing.

Very forgiving in whitewater, turbulence, partial breaches and landings, it keeps a predictable response and settles back in quickly so you can link straight into the next turn.

Built in monolithic T400 carbon, CNC machined, it transfers pressure directly and faithfully maintains its profile through the most committed carves.

The reference setup with a Tail Shaft Short and Shim Tail 0° maximises liveliness, tightens carve radii and delivers the best balance between front foot pressure, pitch control and rail-to-rail freedom.

Paired with the Ypra Surf Carve Front Wing, it creates a powerful, radical foil for imperfect, onshore, multi-peak waves or waves broken up by less supportive sections. With the Ypra Surf Fast, it secures acceleration in fast, hollow, powerful waves with strong support that never holds back speed.

Shape
ASPECT RATIO 7.5

The Ypra Surf Carve features a moderate aspect ratio of 7.5 to combine decent glide, solid support and excellent manoeuvrability.

Its span provides enough stability and efficiency to hold acceleration in fast waves, without generating the roll inertia of a higher aspect Tail Wing.

This ratio lets you roll quickly from one rail to the other, tighten your carving radius significantly and adjust your line without losing the support needed to really load up the turn.

THIN AND POWERFUL PROFILE

The relatively thin profile of the Ypra Surf Carve limits drag and maintains excellent freedom as the foil accelerates.

Its power creates precise front-foot support to stabilise trim, load up the carves and maintain strong pressure right through the speed build-up.

The profile handles sudden acceleration without stalling or lifting the board’s nose excessively. The rider keeps a settled, predictable foil in hollow, powerful waves.

CENTRED SURFACE OUTLINE

The outline is drawn out through the tips to reduce induced drag and free up the foil in yaw and rail-to-rail transitions.

The surface area remains mainly concentrated in the centre to maintain solid support through the middle. This zone stabilises pitch and gives the rider a precise control point through every phase of the carve.

This distribution also creates a natural pivot point around which the foil rolls quickly. You keep the presence needed to commit hard without slowing down directional changes.

SLIGHT ANHEDRAL

The slight anhedral of around 7 mm improves efficiency while making it easier to initiate a carve at high speed.

It naturally supports the foil rolling onto the rail and lets you progressively load the line without any abrupt reaction.

Once engaged, the Tail Wing holds a clean, guided and highly predictable carve. Its moderate amplitude still leaves enough freedom to tighten the radius or change direction quickly.

THIN, FORGIVING TIPS

The thin, elongated tips maintain excellent efficiency right out to the extremities, with less induced drag.

Their reduced surface area speeds up rail-to-rail transitions, frees up line corrections and improves speed build-up when the rider comes out of a committed carve.

This geometry remains particularly forgiving in whitewater, turbulence, partial breaches and landings. The foil keeps a progressive response, settles back in quickly and remains immediately controllable.

UPPER ARCHITECTURE

The Ypra Surf Carve is developed exclusively around an Upper architecture. The Tail Wing sits above the Shim Tail and works with an Upper Tail Shaft.

This architecture is particularly well suited to surfing, snaps and quick direction changes. It contributes to the compact, direct feel targeted on this model.

Its position also limits the Tail Wing’s exposure to bottom strikes in shallow areas and when passing close to reef or sand.

The reference setup with a Short Tail Shaft and 0° Shim Tail maximises responsiveness and tightens the carve radius. The other lengths and incidences then allow you to fine-tune drive, front foot pressure and the aircraft’s stability.

A fully customizable Foil

The Tail Wing is only one part of your foil's overall behavior. With the V3 Atmo system, you can also choose your Tail Shaft length and Tail Shim angle of incidence to achieve a setup perfectly matched to your skill level, riding style, and discipline.

The Tail Shaft primarily influences the foil's dynamic behavior. A Short model makes the foil more responsive and reduces turning radius. The Medium version delivers the reference balance. The Long version provides greater longitudinal stability, smooths pitch movements, and makes long, flowing lines easier to maintain.

The Tail Shim then allows you to fine-tune the foil's longitudinal balance. It adjusts front-foot pressure, pitch attitude, takeoff ease, pumping cadence, and the foil's overall character, without changing the intrinsic characteristics of your Tail Wing.

The recommended setup for each Tail Wing is always the best place to start. It delivers exactly the behavior intended by the designer. From this baseline, you can progressively tune your foil to your own preferences by changing only one parameter at a time.

This modular system naturally evolves with your progression. The same Tail Wing can continue to meet your needs for many seasons simply by combining different Tail Shaft lengths and Tail Shim angles.

You're not simply choosing a Tail Wing, you're choosing a tuning platform that allows your foil to evolve with your riding, delivering a setup tailored with precision to the way you ride.

A Platform that evolves with you

At GONG, a new generation of products doesn't make your existing equipment obsolete. Our priority is to improve performance while protecting your investment.

All V3 Atmo Tail Wings share a standard mounting interface that defines their reference angle of incidence. This allows them to be installed on both the new V3 Atmo Tail Shims and the previous compatible V3 shims, without requiring you to replace your entire rear foil assembly.

This continuity also means that the same Tail Wing can be used with either a V3 or Micro V3 Atmo fuselage. Simply select the Tail Shaft and Tail Shim designed for your fuselage diameter. You can upgrade your platform progressively, without rebuilding your entire quiver every time a new innovation is introduced.

This compatibility is at the heart of our development philosophy. Every new generation delivers greater performance, finer tuning possibilities, and increased precision, while remaining designed to preserve as much of your existing equipment as possible.

You're investing in a durable platform that evolves alongside your riding, not in a succession of incompatible systems that must be replaced entirely with every new product generation.

V3 Atmo, a new era

The V3 Atmo range marks a major leap forward in the design, manufacturing, and finishing of our foils. Reaching this new level of performance required far more than evolving the shapes. We rethought the entire process, from R&D to the finished product.

Every V3 Atmo shape is designed in 3D, digitally optimized, thoroughly tested by the GONG Team, and manufactured with an unprecedented level of precision. Profiles, thickness distribution, transitions, fillets, connection areas, and trailing edges have all been refined to reduce parasitic drag, improve water flow, and maximize efficiency.

Our new production facility enables manufacturing in an ultra-clean, highly controlled environment with a level of precision approaching that of the world's leading aerospace, motorsport, and high-performance composite industries. Optimized extraction of solvents and dust creates better working conditions while ensuring cleaner parts throughout every stage of production.

Tighter control over every step, from material handling, layup, machining, and molding to cooling and finishing, delivers an unprecedented level of accuracy, particularly on the trailing edges. This controlled refinement minimizes hydrodynamic disturbances, reduces noise, improves glide, and contributes to the overall performance gains of the V3 Atmo range.

But the real breakthrough isn't just producing a beautiful part, it's producing the same beautiful part every time. Every wing leaves the factory with the same profile, the same fit, the same trailing edge, the same stiffness, and the same ride feel. In foiling, even a few tenths of a millimeter can affect ventilation, stall behavior, noise, speed, and stability.

Cleaner. Finer. Stiffer. More consistent. The V3 Atmo range represents a new era in the way we manufacture performance. From the Perf Series to the Team Series and Pro Team Series, every construction benefits from this new level of industrial precision.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Ypra Surf Carve V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is aimed at advanced to expert surfers who want to commit hard into their carves while keeping plenty of control and margin.

It suits riders looking for a lively, powerful and highly manoeuvrable foil, with precise front foot pressure so they can load it up without dealing with uncontrolled pitch changes.

It is particularly well suited to surfers and wingers who like powerful carves, snaps, quick direction changes, strong speed build-up and committed lines in the pocket.

Its behaviour still remains composed and forgiving enough to surf imperfect waves, onshore conditions, multi-peak setups, whitewater crossings or waves broken up by less supportive sections.

Why?

The Ypra Surf Carve is developed for radical surf foiling and wing foiling in all types of waves.

In soft or imperfect waves, its powerful profile and central surface area let you load the Tail Wing, build speed hard and keep a solid foil under your feet when the slope backs off.

In onshore or multi-peak waves, its manoeuvrability lets you change your line quickly, aim for another section and link multiple rail changes without losing pitch control.

In fast, hollow and powerful waves, its relatively thin profile handles acceleration without abrupt saturation. The support stays solid, but the foil keeps moving forward without lifting the board's nose excessively.

It also handles whitewater, turbulence, partial breaches and heavy landings well. The foil settles back in quickly and lets the rider go straight into another carve.

To avoid if...

The Ypra Surf Carve is not designed to maximise long flat-water pumping distances. For that programme, choose a Trail, Hyper Trail, Supra Trail or Ultra Trail Tail Wing depending on your level and goals.

It is not aimed at maximum efficiency in downwind or freefly either. A Veloce DW will offer more glide and less front foot pressure on long lines.

For downwind race and the highest speeds, the Veloce XTR will go much further in terms of efficiency and high-speed stability.

If you are mainly looking for a very smooth, very guided and not very reactive foil, its reference Short setup and radical surf programme may feel too lively.

What size?

Size choice depends on the Front Wing, rider weight, wave power and the level of support you are looking for.

A large Ypra Surf Carve brings more front foot pressure, more longitudinal control and more power in speed build-up. It stabilises the foil in messy waves, but slightly reduces freedom and rail-to-rail speed.

A smaller size frees up the Front Wing more, reduces drag and makes direction changes even quicker. On the other hand, it requires more precision through pitch changes and offers less support when speed drops.

In soft, imperfect or onshore waves, a sufficiently supportive Tail Wing helps maintain pressure and build speed between sections.

In very fast and powerful waves, a smaller size can free up speed and reduce front foot pressure, provided you still keep enough control to handle the acceleration.

The best size is the one that lets you load your carves without being overpowered by the foil, while keeping the freedom needed to commit quickly into the next one.

What setup?

The Ypra Surf Carve is offered exclusively in Upper architecture.

It can be mounted on a Carbon Tail with its matching Upper wedge, or on an Upper Tail Shaft paired with an Upper Shim Tail.

It cannot be mounted on a Lower Tail Shaft or a Lower Shim Tail. Upper and Lower architectures use different geometries and seating interfaces.

The reference setup uses a Short Tail Shaft and a 0° Upper Shim Tail. This combination maximises liveliness, reduces carve radius and offers the best balance between support, pitch control and rail-to-rail freedom.

Always start with this setup so you can discover the character intended by the designer before changing length or angle.

Why an upper setup?

The Upper setup places the Tail Wing above the Shim Tail in an architecture particularly suited to surfing and quick direction changes.

It gives a compact, direct and precise rear end that instantly transmits pressure changes through carves, snaps and speed build-up.

This position also limits the Tail Wing's exposure to bottom strikes when the rider is surfing in shallow water or getting close to a reef, sandbank or the shore.

Paired with a Short Tail Shaft, the Upper setup allows a major reduction in carve radius while keeping a very lively foil under your feet.

What does Shim Tail 0° mean?

The 0° Shim Tail keeps the reference angle calculated for the Ypra Surf Carve.

It does not mean the Tail Wing is horizontal relative to the fuselage. The native angle required for it to work is built directly into its carbon seating.

The Shim Tail number only indicates the angle added or removed relative to that reference.

So 0° is always the best starting point to understand the Tail Wing's balance before adjusting front foot pressure or the foil's longitudinal behaviour.

What angle should you choose with a Ypra Surf Carve?

The 0° Shim Tail is the reference setup with the Ypra Surf Carve Front Wing. It offers the best balance between front foot pressure, freedom, pitch control and speed build-up.

A negative angle number progressively adds more front foot pressure and increases Tail Wing support. The -1° lets you load your carves more, strongly stabilise pitch and build speed with plenty of power.

This setting is particularly well suited to imperfect waves, soft sections or riders who like to push very hard through their front leg.

It does, however, increase drag and requires more effort from the front leg. So start with 0° before testing -1°.

What angle should you choose with a Ypra Surf Fast?

The 0° Shim Tail offers a very controlled balance with the Ypra Surf Fast Front Wing. It secures acceleration and keeps enough support to hold your carves in fast and powerful waves.

The +1° reduces front foot pressure and frees up the foil's speed more. The Front Wing accelerates more freely, but the rider has to manage pitch more precisely with the back foot.

This setting suits very fast and hollow waves, as well as expert surfers who want to reduce rear support without losing control of their line.

What Tail Shaft length?

The Short Tail Shaft is the reference setup for the Ypra Surf Carve.

It reduces the foil's wheelbase, speeds up pitch reactions and lets you tighten carve radius significantly. It is the natural choice for snaps, quick direction changes and radical surfing.

The Medium Tail Shaft brings more longitudinal stability and more progression. It keeps good manoeuvrability while calming the foil slightly in powerful or messy waves.

The Long Tail Shaft maximises drive and line hold. It gives more guided and very progressive carves, but clearly reduces the liveliness and radical character sought on this model. Not suitable.

The choice depends on your style. Short for radical performance, Medium for compromise, Long is not recommended.

Which Front Wing?

The Ypra Surf Carve Front Wing is the natural match for this Tail Wing. They share the same DNA of power, control and manoeuvrability.

This combo excels in imperfect, onshore, multi-peak waves or waves broken up by less supportive sections. It lets you load your carves, build speed hard and multiply direction changes.

With the Ypra Surf Fast Front Wing, the Surf Carve Tail Wing brings the front foot pressure and control needed to make the most of its speed in fast, hollow and powerful waves.

It also works very well with a Ypra Surf Freestyle when the rider is looking for more control in carves, landings and speed build-up.

Paired with a Fluid, it increases front foot precision and makes the foil more direct and more radical through direction changes.

More broadly, it can be paired with wave-oriented Front Wings when the goal is to add support, manoeuvrability and a strong presence through carves.

How do you progress with tuning?

Start with a Short Tail Shaft, a 0° Shim Tail and a Tail Wing size that matches your Front Wing.

Use this setup for enough sessions to understand the level of front foot pressure, rail-to-rail speed and the foil's behaviour through acceleration.

Then only change one parameter at a time. Tail Wing size, Tail Shaft length, Shim Tail angle and foil position in the boxes can each strongly affect the balance.

If the foil lacks front foot pressure or becomes too loose in carves, first test a negative angle number or a larger Tail Wing.

If it overloads the front leg or resists acceleration, test a higher Shim Tail angle or a smaller Tail Wing size.

The best setting is the one that lets you load your carves properly while keeping enough freedom to link them without unwanted correction.

Compatibility

The Ypra Surf Carve Tail Wing is exclusively Upper.

It works with:

  • a compatible Carbon Tail and its matching Upper wedge;
  • a V3 Upper Tail Shaft and a V3 Upper Shim Tail;
  • a Micro V3 Atmo Upper Tail Shaft and a Micro V3 Atmo Upper Shim Tail.
  • V3 and Micro V3 Atmo Tail Shafts and Shim Tails are not interchangeable on the fuselage side.

The Tail Wing remains compatible with both diameters thanks to its standard footprint. You must use the Tail Shaft and Shim Tail suited to the fuselage diameter.

It cannot be mounted on a Lower Tail Shaft, a Lower Shim Tail or a Lower wedge.

Equipments

The Tail Wing is supplied on its own, without mounting hardware.

The required screws are supplied with the Carbon Tail, the wedge or the Shim Tail used for the assembly.

Mounting on a Shim Tail Upper uses two M6 screws matched to the Tail Wing thickness.

The different Tail Wing thicknesses may require different screw lengths. Always use the hardware that matches the assembly in order to maintain sufficient thread engagement without bottoming out in the thread.

Stainless steel hardware suited to the repeated loads of foiling and marine use.

Simple top-mount assembly on the Tail Wing, with only two visible screws.

Standard GONG seat for precise, repeatable Tail Wing positioning.

Firm connection, rigid while riding and easy to remove after the session.
