Foil Stab X-Over V2
Description
Program
The easy stab to start and progress!
Introduction
The X-Over stab is our simplest stab for learning to fly, for doing your first maneuvers, and smoothly mastering all phases of progression that will make you a happy foiler.
This stabilizer is very forgiving: it takes off early, accepts very low speeds, and erases many piloting errors.
It is the tail wing for evolving riders, who are looking for stability and tolerance, but above all for versatility. This stab makes it easier to tame the foil and quickly fly, sail upwind and have fun on the water! It is also a very good freeride stab for advanced riders who want to sail without stress.
The 90° winglets on the tips of the stab translate into perfect yaw stability, with a limited impact on drag. In short: it goes straight and does not fly sideways. This gives the foil a super predictable behavior in accelerations and maneuvers. We also have more comfort on the upwind phases. The foil goes straight in the axis of the board, without skidding, but it turns and remains manageable: flying in the axis does not mean locking the foil! Just press on one side and it enters the curve properly to start your best jibes.
The fuselage is longer compared to the other stabs in our range: everything is cooler. The foil is deliberately less lively to provide the evolving rider with a feeling of smoothness and stability. The point is not to be overwhelmed by an overly nervous foil that goes up and down like the dolphin at the slightest mistake or suddenly enters the curves. The X-Over stab provides control on all axes for a flight behavior that is always very predictable and reassuring.
This longer fuselage allows the stab to have a better lever arm on the front wing and therefore more effect on an equal surface. This brings a lot of stability in pitch: essential when starting out and still finding your bearings, or to reposition your stance in flight with confidence. In wing foiling it allows you to focus more on the handling of the wing, in surfing you can better anticipate the trajectory by allowing yourself to be less focused on the height of flight.
The lift of this stabilizer is increased tenfold: we take off super early. No need to pump frantically with the wing or the board, everything is done naturally and smoothly. Experienced riders will greatly appreciate this tail wing in very light winds.
And thanks to this lever arm which increases the lift tenfold, we were able to give the stab a relatively thin profile which allows it to accept a great top speed for this kind of shape. It is a stab that will accompany you in your progression for a long time.
The X-Over stabs in sizes L and XL, will allow you to discover all the sports, be it kite, wing, surf or SUP foiling.
Choosing the right size
The X-Over stabs are accessible and will be the perfect complement to an X-Over front wing, but it can work very well with other front wings if you feel that you need a more forgiving stab or one that allows you to lean very strongly in turns. Choose the size you usually like from GONG. Always adjust the size of the stab to the size of the front wing for a balanced flight. A stab L with a front wing L will give a perfectly balanced set up.
Your benefits are clear:

Fuselage
The shape of the X-Over stabs was designed with two things in mind: flight stability and low-speed lift. However, it is far from limited to a low end use thanks to its longer and thinner profile that delivers a really good top speed.

This stab is only compatible with our Pro fuselages, in either aluminum or titanium. The fiberglass and carbon tail of the stab is shaped to reduce weight and drag.
The back portion of the fuselage blends in the stab. It is extremely streamlined which reduces drag by a factor of 3. A fuselage that frees up every front wing of our range and brings a 3 to 5 knots top speed boost compared to the previous version of the fuselage.
This back part of the fuselage is so efficient that it boosts maneuverability by reducing drag. The very small section close to the stab gives the ability to turn much more easily.

The fitting/profile connection fillets have been optimized for more glide. But they also ensure the blocking of twisting for perfect rigidity.
The trapezoidal insert mechanism with the Pro fuselage ensures an ideal assembly without the need for a counter-screw.
The result is a beautiful, light, rigid and tremendously effective foil!

Outline
The outline maximizes the surface with a mostly constant chord along the center 2/3 of the stab and thinner tips. This generous surface along the whole span offers great pitch stability.
The leading edge is slightly curved and the trailing edge is straight. This geometry allows for better roll control.

Profile
The profile is generous along the whole span to allow for low-speed flight, without being too thick, because the longer fuselage compared to the rest of the range increases its effect on the front wing. No need to add any more thickness which would slow down your foil and create too much lift.
Similar to the rest of the newer range, the profile has been improved to get a more progressive lift and handle a higher top speed compared to previous versions.
On the 90° tip winglets, the profile isn’t lifty. The main role of the tips is to act as a fin to improve yaw control.

Dihedral
Slightly negative for more grip in the curves and keep the stab away from the surface of the water.
The tips angle back up to bring more pitch stability and lock the foil on its trajectory. Ideal to avoid the little scares of the first sessions. In addition, it prevents scraping the tips on the seafloor.

Buying guide
For whom?
You saw a bunch of riders having a blast and you want to join the party? The X-Over is a perfect entry point to get into foiling and evolve, be it in wing, kite, surf or SUP foiling!
For what?
These stabs have been designed to be easy and a lot of fun in maneuvers, while having good speed and control. It’s great for wing or a kite foiling, but also on surf/SUP foiling gear to do nice and clean maneuvers.
With a generous and very well thought out profile, it is the stab offering a great glide/lift compromise. Its dihedral and winglets offer total control to fully engage in the moves and progress:
- In surf foiling, it’s great to start calmly without being surprised on the take off and in the curves.
- In wing foiling, it is a very comfortable, accessible stab that allows you to optimize take-off and fly without being scared.
- In kite foiling, it is ideal for beginners who want control without excessive speed.
Which size?

The X-Over stabs are very simple. Choose the size you usually like from GONG.
Always adjust the size of the stab to the size of the front wing for a balanced flight.
For a front wing XL or XXL: Stab X-Over XL.
For a front wing M or L: Stab X-Over L.
For a front wing S or less: look for a stab from another range, aFluid for example.
The L has a 44 cm wingspan, 275 cm2, 0,73 cm thick for a volume of 0,12L.
- In surf foiling, it is a stab that will suit the majority of medium-sized foilers.
- In wing foiling, it’s perfect for riders of an intermediate level looking for versatility with a very good low end.
- In kite foiling, it is a great stab for big riders.
The XL has a 48 cm wingspan, 335 cm2, 0,79 cm thick for a volume of 0,15L.
- In surf foiling, it is a great stab for big riders and large wings.
- In wing foiling, it is a great stab for big riders and large wings.
- In kite foiling: to forget, it’s too big.
Which quiver?
The X-Over Stab is very easy. You can mount it on a board with volume to start, but it will also be an easier stab for more advanced riders.
The Aluminum Mast does the job very well with this progression stab.
Positioning of the foil?
For beginners on GONG foils, place the plate in the rear third for surfing, SUP and kite, and in the middle of the US rails for wing foiling.
The further you move it, the more it pitches the board up. The more you move it back, the more the nose of the board dives.
