The performance midlength fish for drawing longer lines, improving paddle power and surfing with more speed, flow and style, without losing the free twin-fin feel.

Overview

The J.Low Mid is the iconic fish stretched out. A board designed to bring back the flow, speed and style of a twin keel, with more paddle power, longer lines and more range in your turns.

From the very first waves, you feel a board that glides for ages. It gets going easily, carries its speed and invites you to draw big, fluid carves without breaking speed or forcing your turns. The extra length brings that more settled, drawn-out, stylish surfing feel.

And yet the J.Low Mid keeps the fish spirit: a free, fast and natural ride, with that twin-fin feel that makes you want to let the board run, link carves and surf with flow rather than brute force.

But this is not a passive midlength. Its refined dimensions, modern rails and channels give it more hold, more control and more precision than a traditional stretched-out fish. You keep the glide, but with the confidence to push harder when the wave starts to accelerate.

That is exactly where its appeal lies: drawing longer lines without losing the fish feel. More paddle power, more continuity, more drive, yet always that unique feeling of freedom under your feet.

The J.Low Mid is made for surfers looking for a board with true surf culture, elegant and high-performance: speed, flow, style and long lines, with a modernised fish that can go further without losing its soul.

Shape
OUTLINE

The outline carries over the J.Low’s 100% fish DNA, but stretches it into a performance midlength approach. You gain paddling, glide and down-the-line speed, with a board that draws out its lines longer and carries speed more efficiently.

The dimensions stay well balanced to avoid the overly wide or overly passive midlength feel. The width delivers the comfort and planing of a fish, while the controlled volume keeps plenty of bite, control and real precision through your foot pressure.

ROCKER

The rocker stays true to the fish spirit: low, drawn-out and fast. This curve promotes water flow, reduces drag and allows the board to maintain its speed all the way across the wave.

On a midlength outline, this rocker delivers longer, smoother and more continuous glide. The board accelerates naturally, carries through weaker sections and invites you to draw clean lines without scrubbing speed.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The hull modernises the fish thanks to the channels aligned with the keel fins. They channel the water, enhance the fins' drive and provide more hold at high speed, without disrupting the twin's flow.

On the J.Low Mid, these channels are essential: they support the board's length, stabilise it and let you push harder through your carves. You keep the fish's freedom, with more control and precision on fast lines.

TAIL

The traditional fish tail preserves the J.Low's identity: planing surface, natural speed build-up and fluid drive under the back foot. It gives you the support you need to maintain speed and link carves with style.

Its two tips let you lean on the rail and fins to pivot, hold your line and build speed. You keep a free, fluid feel, but with enough precision to control the extended range of the midlength format.

RAILS

The modern rails give the J.Low Mid the bite it needs to stay high-performing despite its elongated format. They let you put the board on rail, hold your line and control speed through long lines.

This precision avoids the vague feel of a fish that is too basic or too bulky. The board stays free and stylish, but with a cleaner, more predictable and more engaging ride when you really push through your turns.

Single Tab connection: simple, direct and solid

The Single Tab system features a single, extended base on each fin. This design creates a solid connection with the fin box, making installation simple, fin changes quick, and power transfer exceptionally direct.

On the water, the benefits are immediate. The board responds instantly, the fins work without unwanted play, and every input translates into drive, grip and control. This is especially valuable on high performance boards, where precise feedback is essential at high speeds and through committed turns.

The Single Tab system also makes it easy to fine tune your setup for different conditions. Changing fin size, template or flex lets you refine the board's feel in just a few moments. It provides a clean, durable and efficient connection, allowing you to unlock the full potential of the shape.

Good to know: Single Tab fin boxes are only compatible with Single Tab fins.

Key benefits:

  • Simple installation and quick fin changes.
  • Direct connection for immediate response underfoot.
  • Excellent drive, grip and control through powerful turns.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

For surfers who want to rediscover the style, glide and natural speed of a fish, with more length, more paddling power and more continuity than a classic J.Low.

For intermediate to advanced surfers who like drawing clean lines, setting the rail and surfing with flow, without only looking for a vertical shortboard approach.

For those who want a high-performance midlength fish: a board rooted in surf culture, free and stylish, but modernised to keep more control, more hold and more precision as speed builds.

What for?

To draw longer lines, keep more momentum and surf with more range. The J.Low Mid turns the fish feeling into longer, smoother and more continuous glide.

To keep the pleasure of a twin keel without losing confidence. The channels bring more grip and stability, letting you push harder through carves while keeping the freedom of a fish.

To surf with style in small to medium conditions, but also go further than a classic fish when the wave gets faster, longer or more powerful.

What board size?

The J.Low Mid should be chosen with a performance midlength mindset: you use the length to gain paddling power, glide and line speed, without looking for too much volume.

Don’t choose it as an oversized comfort board. Its appeal comes from the balance between length, controlled dimensions and precision. Too much volume would reduce the bite, hold and lively feel of the shape.

If you’re between two sizes, choose the bigger one to maximise paddling, glide and long drawn-out lines. Choose the smaller one to keep more manoeuvrability, more responsiveness and a ride closer to the classic J.Low.

What are the ideal waves?

Size: from small waves to medium waves, depending on your level, your build and the power of the spot.

Power: it works very well in soft to average waves, but its channels and added length let it stay comfortable when the wave speeds up.

Shape: it prefers waves with an open face, lines to connect and enough room to let its glide speak for itself. These are the conditions where its flow, drive and long carves really come into their own.

What construction?

The J.Low Mid needs a construction that can preserve its natural glide, drive and precision. The goal is to keep a board that feels alive under your feet, while still holding together when speed builds.

A light and responsive construction brings out the paddling, speed build-up and fluid side of the midlength fish. It helps the board get going early, keep its momentum and stay enjoyable to surf off the feet.

The goal is simple: enjoy the glide of a midlength, the style of a fish and enough responsiveness to make the most of the channels, modern rails and twin keel.

What fin setup?

The J.Low Mid comes set up as a Single Tab twin keel. It’s the setup that keeps the true fish feeling: natural speed, drive, fluid glide and big, full carves.

Keel fins bring a wide base, which means support, stability and range in your lines. They back up the board’s length and let you push hard without breaking the line.

The channels work with the fins to add grip and stabilise the board at high speed. You keep the free feel of a twin, with more hold and precision than an overly basic midlength fish.

Which shape should you choose?

Choose the J.Low Mid if you want an extended iconic fish, capable of surfing with more line, more paddling power and more style than a classic fish.

Its stretched fish outline delivers glide. Its low rocker keeps the speed. Its channels add hold. Its fish tail keeps the drive. Its modern rails bring precision. Its twin keel preserves flow and freedom.

The J.Low Mid is therefore the right choice for surfers who want to draw fast, long lines with style, with a midlength board that keeps all the identity of a fish, but with a more modern, more controlled and higher-performance take.

Frequent questions
What exactly is the J.Low Mid?

The J.Low Mid is a performance midlength fish: an elongated version of the J.Low, designed to deliver more paddle power, more glide and longer lines, while keeping the free, stylish feel of a twin keel.

Who is the J.Low Mid for?

It is aimed at intermediate to advanced surfers looking for a board with glide, style and speed, with more length and drive than a classic fish and more control than an overly basic retro midlength.

What’s the difference compared with the classic J.Low?

The classic J.Low is more compact, more direct and more playful. The J.Low Mid adds length to improve paddling, down-the-line speed and draw out your carves, with a smoother, more settled and more continuous glide.

What kind of waves does it work best in?

It performs best in small to medium waves, with open faces and lines to connect. It loves waves that let it glide, draw lines and tap into its natural flow.

Why are the channels important on the J.Low Mid?

The channels funnel water towards the fins, adding grip and stabilising the board as speed builds. They let you keep the free feel of a twin, with more hold and precision.

Is it an easy board?

Its length makes paddling and take-off easier, but it still needs to be ridden properly. To get the best out of it, you need to surf it with rail engagement, flow and clean lines, just like a true high-performance fish.

Why choose a twin keel on a midlength?

The Single Tab twin keel keeps the fish’s smooth glide and natural drive. Its wide base holds long carves, gives solid support under the back foot and perfectly matches the board’s drawn-out feel.

Can the J.Low Mid go further than a classic fish?

Yes. Its longer format, modern rails and channels let it stay more stable, more precise and more composed when the wave picks up. It keeps the fish identity, but with a more modern, higher-performance take.
