Programme

The performance shortboard built to generate speed, build speed hard and deliver radical surfing in small to medium waves.

Overview

The Chemical is the board for sessions where you need to do a lot with very little. A slightly soft 1m to 1.2m wave without much shoulder, and it becomes lethal. It accelerates, pivots, builds speed and turns an average wave into an ultra-radical playground.

Its purpose is clear: generate speed. In slightly weak, short or inconsistent waves, it accelerates quickly, gets through soft sections and helps the rider stay active on the wave. Where a board for quality conditions needs more power to come alive, the Chemical turns every bit of pressure into speed build-up.

Its compact, efficient shape delivers a lively, snappy and responsive ride. The board slots easily back into the pocket, switches rail to rail quickly and keeps enough speed to attack the lip, close out carves and link manoeuvres without losing rhythm.

The bottom shape is designed to create lift and glide. The concave helps generate speed, while the rear section organises water flow to maintain a clean feel through turns. The result is a fast board that still stays precise underfoot.

The responsive tail and precise rails let you push hard through your turns without making the board too demanding. The Chemical keeps enough bite for vertical surfing while remaining fluid and easy to use in everyday conditions.

This is the board to pull out when the waves are rideable but not perfect. A performance shortboard for surfing more often with rhythm, speed build-up and that lively feel that makes you want to move, pump, attack and go again.

Shape
OUTLINE

The performance shortboard outline stays compact, lively and easy to reposition in small to medium waves. It retains enough usable surface area to generate speed through weaker sections, without losing the feel of a true performance board.

The balanced wide point helps with paddling, speed generation and stability in waves with less push. The line keeps enough curve to maintain a quick rail-to-rail feel and allow sharp direction changes.

The nose stays subtle to preserve that shortboard feel, while the last third provides support under the back foot to build speed quickly and bring the board back into the power zone.

ROCKER

The rocker is tuned to maintain speed. The entry stays controlled so the board doesn't create unnecessary drag through softer sections, while still keeping enough margin to attack the lip and commit to more vertical lines.

The central section promotes glide and projection. It helps the board get going quickly, carry through flatter sections and maintain speed between manoeuvres.

The rocker exit keeps a quick response under the back foot. It lets you push against the board, build speed after a turn and keep your surfing short, active and rhythmic.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The bottom shape is designed to generate speed. The single concave under the front foot channels the water, adds lift and quickly turns pressure through the feet into acceleration.

Between turns, the double concave organises the water flow to maintain drive and control, with a clean feel through the carves. The board stays fast while keeping good feedback underfoot.

The V under the back foot makes rail-to-rail transitions easier and helps tighten up carves. It gives the tail more mobility to link turns without losing rhythm.

TAIL

The squash tail provides the support you need to generate speed quickly in small to medium conditions. Its surface area under the back foot helps turn compressions into speed build-up, without waiting for the wave to deliver all the energy.

Its shape keeps a direct response through turns. The tail releases the board easily, lets you close out your carves and promotes quick direction changes.

It’s a tail designed to keep the rhythm going: accelerate, pivot, build speed and drive straight towards the next section.

RAILS

The rails keep enough precision to push hard through carves, without making the board too demanding in average waves. They strike the right balance between hold, flow and ease of transition.

Up front, the rail stays softer to keep a clean carve entry and limit mistakes in messier sections. In the tail, it becomes sharper to transfer pressure, control speed build-up and attack turns with more bite.

This evolution delivers a lively, precise and fluid ride, ideal for keeping your surfing sharp in everyday conditions.

Single Tab connection: simple, direct and solid

The Single Tab system features a single, extended base on each fin. This design creates a solid connection with the fin box, making installation simple, fin changes quick, and power transfer exceptionally direct.

On the water, the benefits are immediate. The board responds instantly, the fins work without unwanted play, and every input translates into drive, grip and control. This is especially valuable on high performance boards, where precise feedback is essential at high speeds and through committed turns.

The Single Tab system also makes it easy to fine tune your setup for different conditions. Changing fin size, template or flex lets you refine the board's feel in just a few moments. It provides a clean, durable and efficient connection, allowing you to unlock the full potential of the shape.

Good to know: Single Tab fin boxes are only compatible with Single Tab fins.

Key benefits:

  • Simple installation and quick fin changes.
  • Direct connection for immediate response underfoot.
  • Excellent drive, grip and control through powerful turns.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Chemical is aimed at solid intermediate to expert surfers who want a true performance shortboard, but adapted to everyday conditions. It is made for riders who already know how to generate speed, read a section, link manoeuvres and make the most of a lively board under their feet.

It will particularly suit surfers who find their good-wave shortboards too demanding in small to medium waves. The Chemical lets you keep your surfing radical, tight and dynamic, without waiting for the wave to be hollow, powerful or perfect.

What for?

The Chemical is designed for small to medium waves that naturally lack power. Its role is to create speed, build speed quickly, get through soft sections and keep rhythm in conditions where a more stretched-out board or one more dedicated to solid waves can lose momentum.

It is a high-performance everyday board: it lets you surf hard when the session is clean but not necessarily powerful. It turns average waves into a fast, lively and radical playground, with a true shortboard logic.

What board size?

Choose the Chemical with a performance mindset, but without going too low in volume. The goal is to keep enough paddle power, lift and speed build-up to make the most of average waves, while still keeping a lively and precise board under your feet.

If you want to maximise responsiveness, tight turns and vertical surfing, stay close to your usual shortboard volume. If you often surf weaker, shorter or less consistent waves, you can add a bit of volume to gain easier take-off, more speed and more comfortable speed build-up.

You should not choose it as a board for big conditions. Too long or too voluminous, it would lose part of what makes it interesting: that ability to move quickly, reposition in the pocket and turn every input into acceleration.

What are the ideal waves?

The Chemical performs best in small to medium waves, from clean to slightly imperfect, with enough face to link manoeuvres but not necessarily much power. It is typically the board for frequent sessions where you want to keep true performance surfing.

It likes waves from 1m to 1.2m, everyday beach breaks, sections where you need to generate your own speed, and waves where you need to build speed often. In powerful, hollow or very fast waves, a board like the Atomic or the Lethal will take over more effectively.

Which construction?

The choice of construction depends on the feel you are looking for and the conditions you surf most often. On a board like the Chemical, liveliness, speed build-up and the ability to generate speed are essential.

An EPS construction will bring a lighter, snappier and more responsive feel. It will suit you very well if you are looking for a lively board, easy to build speed on, capable of reacting quickly to foot pressure in small to medium conditions.

A PU construction will give more inertia, a smoother ride and a more dampened feel on the water. It will be interesting if you want to keep more control, more softness through your turns, or if your everyday conditions are often fast, windy or uneven.

Which fin setup?

The Chemical is designed as a Single Tab thruster. This setup is the most consistent with its programme: a performance shortboard for small to medium waves, made to generate speed, build speed quickly and keep your surfing radical in everyday conditions.

On the Chemical, the fins need to support speed build-up without locking the board up. You need to find the right balance between pivot, drive, hold and tail freedom. A setup that is too loose will make the board very playful, but it may lack support when you push hard through your turns. A setup with too much hold will give more grip, but may reduce liveliness and the ability to link turns quickly.

The Round set is the most balanced choice. It blends speed, control, pivot and drive evenly. It is the fin to choose if you want a Chemical that feels dependable, versatile and easy to get the most out of in most small to medium conditions.

The Leap set is even more neutral and fluid. It makes transitions easier and makes the board simple to place. It is a good option if you want to keep the Chemical smooth, natural and accessible, without losing its performance feel.

The Power set is more upright, with lots of pivot and immediate response under the back foot. It is ideal for emphasising the lively side of the Chemical, tightening up your carves, getting back into the pocket quickly and surfing more vertically in medium waves.

The Project set is deeper, with lots of hold. It will suit you if you want to secure your turns, keep more hold in committed turns, or surf the Chemical in slightly faster or more powerful conditions.

The Wall set is very raked, with lots of drive and excellent line hold. It will be interesting if you want to lengthen your carves, gain more support and keep more speed through open sections.

The Liner set is projection-oriented, with more dynamic flex and a real sense of speed build-up out of the turn. It is a very consistent option with the Chemical if you want to emphasise spring, speed and linking manoeuvres in clean waves.

To sum it up simply: Round for balance, Leap for ease, Power for pivot, Project for hold, Wall for drive, Liner for projection. The right set is the one that respects the character of the Chemical: a fast, lively board made to build speed hard in small to medium conditions.

Which shape should you choose?

Chemical or Lethal?

The Chemical is better suited to small to medium conditions, when you need to generate speed, build speed quickly and link manoeuvres in waves that lack power.

The Lethal has the edge in more hollow waves and in conditions with more push. It is looser in its lines and better suited to tight carves in good waves.

Choose the Chemical if your frequent sessions are in small to medium waves and you want to keep your surfing radical. Choose the Lethal if you are looking for a board for hollow, more powerful waves.

Chemical or Atomic?

The Atomic is made for powerful waves, solid barrels and committed high-speed carves. It needs waves with real push to express its character.

The Chemical is designed for the opposite: creating speed when the wave does not give you enough. It will be more effective in soft, small to medium or imperfect waves.

Choose the Chemical to surf fast and radical in everyday conditions. Choose the Atomic if you are looking for a board for powerful, hollow waves.

Chemical or Evolt?

The Evolt pushes the cursor further towards competition, projection and explosive surfing. It is aimed at surfers who want a more radical and more demanding board in small to medium waves.

The Chemical remains a very lively performance board, but one that is more versatile and easier to get the most out of day to day. It lets you generate speed, link turns and keep your surfing radical without demanding as much commitment as the Evolt.

Choose the Chemical for an efficient, snappy performance shortboard in everyday waves. Choose the Evolt if you want to push radicality and projection further.

Frequent questions
Who is the Chemical for?

The Chemical is aimed at solid intermediate, advanced and expert surfers looking for an efficient performance shortboard in small to medium waves. It’s a lively, snappy and responsive board, built for active surfers who like to generate their own speed, build speed hard and link manoeuvres together.

What kind of waves does the Chemical perform best in?

It performs at its best in small to medium waves, around 1m to 1.2m, lacking power or a bit imperfect, with little shoulder. These are exactly the conditions where it becomes lethal: it accelerates fast, pivots tight and lets you keep a radical approach where many boards lose their spark.

Does the Chemical work in soft waves?

Yes, that's exactly where it thrives. Its generous width under the back foot, relatively low kick and refined bottom shape let you generate speed quickly, even when the wave has very little push. It's built to turn soft sections into opportunities to build speed.

Why is the Chemical so fast?

Speed comes from the combination of its efficient outline, width under the back foot, low kick and bottom shape. The pronounced single concave under the front foot delivers lift and acceleration, while the rest of the bottom helps the board maintain a smooth, fast ride through linked turns.

What role does the bottom shape play on the Chemical?

The bottom shape is a key element of the shape. The single concave under the front foot generates speed and lift. The double concave between the feet smooths out transitions and makes the board precise to ride. The V under the back foot makes rail-to-rail easier and frees up the board through changes of direction.

Is the Chemical an easy board?

It’s more accessible than a board designed for top-quality conditions, because it works in more common, less powerful waves. But it’s not a beginner’s board. It demands active surfing, dynamic foot pressure and a willingness to work the board all the way through the wave.

What size should you choose for the Chemical?

Choose a size that matches your usual performance shortboard reference points, without going too low in volume. The Chemical needs to keep enough buoyancy to generate speed in weaker waves, while staying refined and lively enough to maintain its quick rail-to-rail transitions. If your waves are often soft, a slight increase in volume can be useful.

What’s the difference between the Chemical and the Lethal?

The Chemical is made for small to medium waves, when you need to generate speed, pivot tight and build speed quickly again. The Lethal has the edge in hollower, more powerful waves, with more freedom in your lines and a better ability to carve tighter in proper quality conditions.
