Programme

The record-breaking carbon Tail Wing that cuts drag to the absolute minimum to maximise distance and duration in pump foiling.

Overview

The Ultra Trail V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is developed exclusively for distance and duration records in pump foiling.

Its extreme 18.0 aspect ratio reduces induced drag to a minimum. The foil carries speed exceptionally well between pumps and turns a perfectly controlled cadence into maximum distance.

It pushes the Supra Trail philosophy to its most radical extreme. With more glide, more stability and greater efficiency, the trade-off is far less support and forgiveness.

Its extremely straight, progressive outline stabilises trajectories and eliminates unwanted movement. Manoeuvrability is deliberately sacrificed in favour of efficiency.

Its extremely thin, very low-camber profile completely frees up the Front Wing, reduces front foot pressure and generates very little nose-up through acceleration.

This low rear lift demands flawless technique. Take-off, cadence, trim and flight height must remain perfectly controlled.

Paired with the Ultra Trail Front Wing, it creates our most efficient and most demanding pump foiling setup.

Built in CNC-machined monolithic T700 carbon, it precisely maintains its profile and tips despite its extreme span.

The benchmark setup with a Medium Tail Shaft and 0° Tail Shim delivers the best overall balance. The Long maximises stability and consistency for record attempts.

Buying guide

For whom?

The Tail Wing Ultra Trail V3 Atmo Pro Team Series is aimed exclusively at expert riders who have mastered long-distance pumping.

It concerns practitioners capable of taking off cleanly with very little rear support, maintaining a perfectly regular cadence and precisely controlling their flight height.

It is intended for competitors, endurance specialists and riders looking to break distance or duration records.

It is not suitable for riders looking for tolerance, ease at low speeds or an aircraft capable of compensating for cadence errors.

For what ?

The Ultra Trail is developed exclusively for long-distance pumping, extreme endurance and flat records.

It maximizes the distance traveled with each impulse and allows the flight to be maintained at a very wide, slow and economical cadence.

It is made for record attempts, long crossings and efforts where every gram of drag and every unnecessary movement penalizes the final performance.

Associated with the Front Wing Ultra Trail, it forms the smoothest and most radical pumping plane in the range.

It can also be associated with a Front Wing Supra Trail to further increase its performance, with a significant reduction in downforce and forgiveness.

Avoid if...

The Ultra Trail is not a Tail Wing of progress. To learn or stabilize your technique, choose a Trail.

For slalom pumping and smooth changes of direction, choose a Hyper Trail.

For long distances with more margin, support and tolerance, the Supra Trail will be significantly more accessible.

It is not suitable for surf foiling, wingfoiling, lowkiting or programs that require transitions, low speed restarts or maneuverability.

Its use in downwind remains technically possible, but not very relevant. It offers very little control in takeoffs, slowdowns and trajectory changes.

What size?

The choice mainly depends on the Front Wing, of the rider's weight and his ability to control very weak rear downforce.

A large Ultra Trail maintains more presence at low speeds and makes takeoff and restarts slightly easier. However, it increases drag.

A small size further reduces resistance and further frees the Front Wing, but makes the pitch and cadence extremely technical.

The smallest size is only effective if the rider can remain high, stable and perfectly regular throughout the entire effort.

A Tail Wing too small can require more corrections, lose height and ultimately increase the overall drag of the aircraft.

Choose the smallest size you can control without degrading your cadence or trim. Be careful, it's already very small.

What assembly?

In this configuration, the tail wing is in Upper mount.

It can be mounted on a Carbon Tail with its corresponding Upper wedge, or on a Tail Shaft Upper associated with a Shim Tail Upper.

It cannot be mounted on a Tail Shaft Lower or a Shim Tail Lower.

The reference assembly uses a Tail Shaft Medium and a Shim Tail Upper 0°. It offers the best balance between performance, longitudinal stability and control.

The Tail Shaft Long is a particularly relevant option for extreme endurance and record attempts.

What does Shim Tail 0° mean?

The Shim Tail 0° maintains the reference incidence calculated for the Ultra Trail.

It does not mean that the Tail Wing is horizontal in relation to the fuselage. Its native bearing is directly integrated into its carbon seat.

The + sign indicates that the Shim Tail moves up the leading edge of the Tail Wing. Its incidence decreases, which reduces the rear lift and the front foot.

A negative number lowers the leading edge of the Tail Wing. Its incidence increases, which adds lift, front foot and drag.

0° is the best starting point before any modification.

Which angle to choose?

Start with a Shim Tail Upper 0°.

The -0.5° slightly adds front foot and support in takeoff or loss of speed. However, it reduces part of the absolute return sought.

The more negative angles deviate significantly from the Ultra Trail's program and cancel out part of the interest of its minimalist profile.

The +1° frees up the Front even more Wing and reduces the front foot. This setting is extremely demanding and reserved for riders capable of maintaining a perfect cadence and trim.

The freest setting is only effective if you can use it for the entire duration of the effort.

What length of Tail Shaft?

The Tail Shaft Medium is the reference assembly for the Ultra Trail.

It offers the best compromise between longitudinal stability, trim control and efficiency.

The Long Tail Shaft further stabilizes the aircraft, smooths out height variations and allows a slower, more progressive cadence to be used. It is particularly suitable for very long distances and duration records.

The Tail Shaft Short reduces longitudinal stability and makes the plane extremely lively. It deviates significantly from the Ultra Trail program and is not recommended.

The length of the Tail Shaft also changes the position of the Tail Wing in the flows of the Front Wing. This effect exists, but remains secondary to the evolution of the wheelbase.

Which Front Wing ?

The Front Wing Ultra Trail is the reference association.

This combo maximizes efficiency, speed retention and distance traveled between pulses. In return, it requires perfect technique and excellent physical condition.

With a Forehead Wing Supra Trail, the Tail Wing Ultra Trail further reduces drag and radicalizes the aircraft. It allows you to seek more distance at the cost of a significant reduction in support and tolerance.

With a Forehead Wing Hyper Trail, it transforms the plane into a very slippery combo but not very coherent with the dynamic and maneuverable program of the Hyper. This association remains reserved for a very specific performance objective.

It can technically work with other Front Wings, but its very low downforce and minimal maneuverability will always orient the plane towards straight pumping and pure performance.

Why is she so demanding?

The Ultra Trail removes almost everything that usually brings comfort at low speed: surface, camber, support and forgiveness.

This reduction is precisely what reduces drag and allows extreme efficiency to be achieved once the aircraft is launched.

The rider must therefore produce all the stability of the flight himself through his cadence, attitude and height management.

The slightest error immediately results in a loss of speed that is difficult to recover. This requirement is the direct price of its absolute effectiveness.

How to progress in the settings?

Start with a Front Wing Ultra Trail, a Tail Shaft Medium, a Shim Tail 0° and a Tail size Wing that you have complete control over.

Test this setup long enough to understand its very low front foot, natural cadence, and low speed headroom.

Then only change one parameter at a time between the size of Tail Wing, the length of the Tail Shaft, the Shim Tail and the position of the foil in the boxes.

The Tail Shaft Long is often the first relevant development for long attempts, because it increases stability without changing the incidence of the Tail Wing.

Above all, look for a perfectly clean plate and a reproducible cadence. Further reduction in drag is only useful if it can be maintained for the duration of the effort.

Compatibility

In this configuration, the tail wing is in Upper mount.

It works with:

  • a compatible Carbon Tail and its corresponding wedge;
  • a Tail Shaft V3 Upper and a Shim Tail Upper;
  • a Tail Shaft Micro V3 Atmo Upper and a Shim Tail Upper.

The V3 and Micro V3 Atmo Tail Shafts are not interchangeable on the fuselage side.

The Shims Tails can be mounted either on Tails Shafts V3 or Micro V3.

The Tail Wing On the other hand, it remains compatible with both diameters, because the impression which receives it is common. You simply need to use the Tail Shaft and Shim Tail adapted to the diameter of the fuselage.

It cannot be mounted on a Shim Tail Lower or a Tail Shaft Lower.
