Feedback on the Ypra by Pierre, GONG ambassador specialized in SUP who found the perfect complement for windy days.

Gear on the beach

The foil seems much lighter with the new fuselage, the weight gain is real. The materials are very nice, the carbon seems to be even more qualitative on the new front wings and stabs.

Gear on the water

From the first take-off, the feeling of glide is incredible, I feel like I have a much smaller foil under my feet in terms of speed, it doesn’t push water, it goes much faster but we keep the advantages of a larger front wing with good lift when there are wind holes.

It allows you to sail easily in irregular winds, the wing glides really long when the wind drops thanks to its wingspan and the speed it provides. Even during maneuvers to turn, you can take the time in the turns without falling back.

At very high speed the wing is super healthy and remains really stable.

At take-off level, it’s a little more complicated than a classic Veloce or Fluid T type wing (which are my only wings with which I can compare). I have almost as much trouble taking off as with my Fluid M-T when we are on a size L wing. Can therefore be used in the lightwind provided you have a puff to be able to take off.

As soon as there is a little wind it takes off without problem after 4-5 pumping strokes.

Upwind, it’s really nice, it goes upwind very well.

you can sometimes see the tips of the foil coming out of the water when you put a little angle.From my point of view, the Ypra L wing will be perfect in a wind between 12 and 18 knots.

It has the advantage over other wings of having a better glide, a better top speed, and it allows you to pass the wind holes without any problem, with an upwind heading at the top. On the other hand, it doesn’t turn like the T range.

We are clearly on a freeride/race program. Surprisingly, it is doing pretty well in surfing.

On long swells, you can surf without exaggerating the turns.

It definitely doesn’t turn as easily as a Veloce or Fluid but it glides very well and will be perfect for someone who wants to catch a wave or two from time to time during their session.

In freestyle, I’m not an expert to judge, but it’s largely possible thanks to the speed it can take, but not as well as my Fluid T or my Veloce. For me, it’s a front wing to reserve for a rider who has an essentially freeride practice and who likes to wave ride or jump from time to time.”
