The shortboard built for hollow, fast waves.

Overview

The Atomic is the shortboard for serious waves. The one you pull out when the conditions step up, the faces get fast, hollow and powerful, and you need a board that can hold speed without losing precision.

Its purpose is clear: go all in. Hollow drops, fast walls, barrels, solid sections, long drawn-out lines... the Atomic is made for advanced to expert surfers who want to charge on a board that feels solid, direct and ultra reliable underfoot. It is not trying to make small waves easy, it is here to make the most of the sessions where the wave is really delivering energy.

Its shape puts everything into control and drive. The pinched outline, narrow nose, fine rails and slightly forward volume let you position yourself efficiently, commit without hesitation and hold a clean line through critical sections. The board stays connected to the face, even when the speed ramps up hard.

Under the back foot, the Atomic delivers powerful hold. Its single concave to double concave bottom flowing into the tail channels the water flow, generates drive and turns committed pressure into projection. The square tail brings crisp, fast and reactive support to build speed hard, carve with authority and adjust your line without any vagueness.

The Atomic is a demanding board, but an intuitive one. For the right surfer, it delivers exactly what you want in heavy sessions: speed, grip, control and that confidence that lets you set deeper, hold harder and go after the lines that matter.

Shape
OUTLINE

The Atomic features a narrow, 100% shortboard outline, designed for fast, hollow and powerful waves. Its narrow nose stays out of the way in barrels, hollow drops and committed lines, reducing mistakes in vertical sections.

The moderate maximum width and clean outline line promote speed, control and hold through the line. This board prioritises drive, precision and reading the wave in powerful surf.

The tail extends that clean line with powerful support under the back foot. It lets you load up your carves, control speed and adjust your line without losing flow.

ROCKER

The rocker is relatively lifted to give you more margin in hollow, fast waves. The raised entry lets you commit to solid drops and make it through vertical sections without worrying about pearling.

The curve keeps enough speed to hold fast walls, while maintaining the manoeuvrability needed to adjust your line. This rocker is designed to surf with the wave’s energy, not to generate speed in weak sections.

In the tail, the rocker supports committed pressure through the turns and lets you load up your carves without killing the drive.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The bottom shape combines a single concave blending into a double concave through to the tail, with no V. This choice delivers direct, fast, drawn-out glide, ideal for powerful waves where the board needs to hold its line.

The concave generates speed and lift, while the double concave channels the flow under your pressure points to bring drive, grip and control at high speed.

The absence of V reinforces the direct feel: the Atomic responds instantly, holds hard and stays connected to the face.

TAIL

The square tail is designed to deliver powerful, highly predictable hold at high speed. Its clean, drawn-out line extends the outline and gives it direct handling in fast waves.

Under the back foot, this tail lets you load up hard through bottom turns, hold committed carves and control speed without any drift.

The corners of the square tail provide instant response to lock in a line, build speed through a fast section or fine-tune your line in a barrel.

RAILS

The Atomic’s rails are thin and sharp, biting into the face with precision in hollow, fast waves. Their low volume lets you sink the board without forcing it and keep direct contact with the water.

Up front, they work with the narrow nose to reduce mistakes in barrels and committed drops. At the tail, the clean edge releases the water cleanly and transfers pressure instantly.

This evolution delivers a precise, grippy and reliable board at high speed.

Single Tab connection: simple, direct and solid

The Single Tab system features a single, extended base on each fin. This design creates a solid connection with the fin box, making installation simple, fin changes quick, and power transfer exceptionally direct.

On the water, the benefits are immediate. The board responds instantly, the fins work without unwanted play, and every input translates into drive, grip and control. This is especially valuable on high performance boards, where precise feedback is essential at high speeds and through committed turns.

The Single Tab system also makes it easy to fine tune your setup for different conditions. Changing fin size, template or flex lets you refine the board's feel in just a few moments. It provides a clean, durable and efficient connection, allowing you to unlock the full potential of the shape.

Good to know: Single Tab fin boxes are only compatible with Single Tab fins.

Key benefits:

  • Simple installation and quick fin changes.
  • Direct connection for immediate response underfoot.
  • Excellent drive, grip and control through powerful turns.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Atomic is aimed at advanced to expert surfers looking for a true board for serious waves. It requires solid positioning, efficient paddling, committed foot pressure and the ability to read a hollow or powerful wave quickly. This is not an easy board or a progression board: it is built for riders who already know how to commit, load up their carves and hold a fast line.

It is particularly well suited to surfers looking for control at high speed, drive through the bottom turns and reliable hold in hollow sections. If you like surfing hard, building speed, slotting into barrels and pushing hard through your turns without feeling the board let go, the Atomic is right at home.

What for?

The Atomic is built for powerful, fast and hollow waves. Its purpose is clear: hold a clean line when the wave is pushing, stay in control on committed drops and deliver enough drive to push hard through bottom turns and long carves.

This is a board to bring out when the conditions get serious. It is not designed to make small, mushy waves easier, but to turn the energy of a real wave into speed, grip and power under your feet. The more wall the wave has, the more readable and effective it becomes.

What board size?

Choose the Atomic with a performance mindset. The goal is not to oversize it, but to keep a board that stays precise, reactive and controllable in powerful waves. Too much volume will give you more paddling power, but it can also make the board less sharp and harder to hold in fast sections.

At the right volume, the Atomic keeps its main strengths: enough paddling power to get into position, a fine and precise tail to control speed, and rails that engage cleanly into the face. Powerful surfers, or those riding bigger waves, can go slightly up in volume to gain paddling power and more margin on take-off, without losing the committed character of the shape.

What are the ideal waves?

The Atomic performs at its best in clean, powerful, fast and hollow waves. It loves fast-running walls, vertical sections, reefs, solid beach breaks and any wave where line control matters just as much as speed.

Of course, a good rider can surf it in a wide range of conditions, but its true playground remains a quality wave with push. In small, soft surf, it will feel less lively than a wider, flatter board that is easier to get planing. In solid surf, on the other hand, it reveals its full potential.

Which construction?

The Atomic is a board that really comes into its own with a construction that brings inertia, control and a settled feel at high speed. In powerful or fast waves, a board that is too light can become more nervous and more sensitive to bumps in the face. A construction with more inertia helps keep a clean line, filter out unwanted movement and stay connected to the wave.

The choice of construction should therefore be based on the feel you are after and the conditions you are targeting. For use in genuinely fast and powerful waves, go for the construction that gives you the most control, the best read and the most confidence under your feet.

Which fin set-up?

The Atomic is designed as a thruster Single Tab. This set-up is the most consistent with its programme: a committed shortboard for powerful, fast and hollow waves, where control, grip and line hold take priority over pure freedom.

On the Atomic, the fins need to support speed without making the board feel vague. You need to find the right balance between drive, grip, stability and the ability to adjust your line in critical sections. A set that is too loose may lack hold in fast waves. A set that is too locked-in will bring plenty of control, but may reduce your ability to make quick corrections or build speed cleanly.

The Round set is the most balanced choice. It blends speed, control, pivot and drive in an even way. It is a very good option if you want an Atomic that feels dependable, readable and versatile in quality conditions.

The Leap set is even more neutral and fluid. It smooths out transitions and keeps the ride soft, without pushing the board towards an overly extreme feel. It will suit surfers who want an Atomic that is easier to place, with a simple and intuitive feel underfoot.

The Power set is more upright, with plenty of pivot and immediate response under the back foot. It makes the Atomic more vertical and more reactive, especially if you want to tighten your carves and get back under the lip quickly in powerful waves that are not too drawn out.

The Project set is deeper, with lots of grip. It is one of the most consistent choices for the Atomic if you surf hollow, fast or powerful waves. It secures your bottom turns, improves hold at high speed and lets you push hard through carves without losing your line.

The Wall set has a lot of rake, with plenty of drive and excellent line hold. It will suit surfers who want to draw out their carves, hold fast lines and make the most of powerful walls with plenty of pressure through the turns.

The Liner set is geared towards projection, with more dynamic flex and a real sense of speed build-up out of turns. It will be interesting in clean, fast and readable waves if you want to give the Atomic more spring without losing its drive.

To sum it up simply: Round for balance, Leap for ease, Power for pivot, Project for grip, Wall for drive, Liner for projection. The right set is the one that respects the Atomic's character: a powerful, precise board built to keep control in serious waves.

Which shape should you choose?

Choose the Atomic if you are looking for a committed shortboard for hollow, fast and powerful waves, with a high level of control and drive. This is the board for solid sessions, when the priority is to hold speed, commit to your carves and keep a clean line through critical sections.

If you want a more playful and more manoeuvrable board in quality waves, the Lethal will feel looser and easier to turn tightly. If you want a board better suited to small to medium waves, with more speed build-up in less powerful conditions, the Chemical will be more appropriate. If you are looking for a more radical board to attack small waves with explosive, modern surfing, the Evolt will be better suited.

The Atomic is therefore the logical choice if your priority is clear: surf hard in waves with push, with control, grip and real confidence at high speed.

Atomic or Lethal?

They share similar playgrounds: waves with push.

The Lethal is looser, more manoeuvrable and easier to tighten through carves. Its round tail lets you correct a line, pivot tightly and stay highly mobile in hollow waves.

The Atomic is more radical, more committed and more competition-oriented. Its pinched outline, its concave under the back foot through to the tail and its square tail deliver more grip, more drive and better hold in solid barrels.

Atomic or Chemical?

The Chemical is better suited to small to medium conditions, when you need to generate speed, build speed quickly and link manoeuvres.

The Atomic takes over when the wave becomes more powerful, faster and more hollow. It keeps more hold, more grip and more control on committed lines.

Atomic or Evolt?

The Evolt is a competition board for small to medium waves, with lots of projection, speed and the ability to link manoeuvres.

The Atomic is more specialised for powerful and hollow waves. It is built for barrels, committed carves, solid lines and high-speed control.

Atomic or Atomic Tow?

The Atomic is a paddle-in shortboard for surfing hard in powerful waves. It is still designed to paddle, get into position and make the most of solid conditions with committed surfing.

The Atomic Tow pushes the concept towards tow-in, extreme speeds and much heavier waves. It is designed to be towed in, set earlier and keep control in conditions that are not surfed by paddling.

Frequent questions
Who is the Atomic for?

The Atomic is aimed at very good surfers, experts and pros looking for a 100% competition board for powerful, hollow waves. It’s a board built to surf fast, hold a strong line, lay down solid carves and slot into serious barrels with composed handling at high speed.

What kind of waves does the Atomic perform best in?

It performs at its best in powerful, hollow waves, from head-high to double overhead and bigger. It loves fast faces, solid sections, barrels and clean conditions. It can handle less perfect waves, but its true calling remains committed surfing in waves with real push.

Does the Atomic work in small waves?

That’s not what it’s built for. The Atomic isn’t made for throwing spray in 50 cm surf or artificially generating speed in soft waves. It really comes into its own when the wave has hollow sections, speed and a solid section to work with.

Why is the hull so important on the Atomic?

The bottom shape is the key feature of the Atomic. Its concave runs under the back foot all the way through to the tail, delivering loads of grip and drive. The board holds incredibly well in the face, stays on line at high speed and lets you push hard through your turns without losing control.

What is the role of the square tail on the Atomic?

The square tail extends the outline as far as possible. It delivers immediate projection from the first pressure points, helps maintain speed through the sections, and stays reactive despite the strong grip of the hull. It is a key part of the Atomic’s highly driven, competition-oriented character.

Why is the volume slightly forward?

The slightly forward volume improves paddling and positioning on the take-off. This is important in powerful, hollow waves, where you need to get going efficiently, set your line quickly and stay in control from the very first metres. This choice also allows for a thinner tail, with more precision and bite under the back foot.

Which fin setup should you use on the Atomic?

The Atomic is designed around a Single Tab thruster setup. This complete setup delivers the right balance of grip, drive, control and manageable speed in powerful, hollow waves. More rake will give you longer carves and more hold. Less rake will free up the pivot more. More surface area will increase grip, while a smaller set will make the tail more mobile.

What’s the difference between the Atomic and the Lethal?

The Lethal is looser, more manoeuvrable and easier to tighten up in carves thanks to its round tail. The Atomic is more radical, more committed and more competition-oriented. Its pinched outline, its concave under the back foot through to the tail and its square tail deliver more grip, more drive and better hold in solid barrels.
