Programme

The record-breaking carbon Tail Wing that cuts drag to the absolute minimum to maximise distance and duration in pump foiling.

Overview

The Ultra Trail V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is developed exclusively for distance and duration records in pump foiling.

Its extreme 18.0 aspect ratio reduces induced drag to a minimum. The foil carries speed exceptionally well between pumps and turns a perfectly controlled cadence into maximum distance.

It pushes the Supra Trail philosophy to its most radical extreme. With more glide, more stability and greater efficiency, the trade-off is far less support and forgiveness.

Its extremely straight, progressive outline stabilises trajectories and eliminates unwanted movement. Manoeuvrability is deliberately sacrificed in favour of efficiency.

Its extremely thin, very low-camber profile completely frees up the Front Wing, reduces front foot pressure and generates very little nose-up through acceleration.

This low rear lift demands flawless technique. Take-off, cadence, trim and flight height must remain perfectly controlled.

Paired with the Ultra Trail Front Wing, it creates our most efficient and most demanding pump foiling setup.

Built in CNC-machined monolithic T700 carbon, it precisely maintains its profile and tips despite its extreme span.

The benchmark setup with a Medium Tail Shaft and 0° Tail Shim delivers the best overall balance. The Long maximises stability and consistency for record attempts.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Ultra Trail V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is aimed exclusively at expert riders who have fully mastered long-distance pump foiling.

It is for riders capable of taking off cleanly with very little rear foot pressure, maintaining a perfectly steady cadence and controlling their flight height with precision.

It is designed for competitors, endurance specialists and riders looking to break distance or duration records.

It is not suitable for riders looking for forgiveness, ease at low speed or a foil setup capable of compensating for cadence mistakes.

Why?

The Ultra Trail is developed exclusively for long-distance pump foiling, extreme endurance and flat-water record attempts.

It maximises the distance covered with each pump and allows you to stay flying with a very long, slow and efficient cadence.

It is built for record attempts, long crossings and efforts where every gram of drag and every unnecessary movement penalise final performance.

Paired with the Ultra Trail Front Wing, it creates the glidiest and most radical pumping foil setup in the range.

It can also be paired with a Supra Trail Front Wing to increase efficiency even further, with a major reduction in support and forgiveness.

Avoid it if...

The Ultra Trail is not a progression Tail Wing. To learn or stabilise your technique, choose a Trail.

For slalom pumping and smooth changes of direction, choose a Hyper Trail.

For long-distance riding with more margin, support and forgiveness, the Supra Trail will be far more accessible.

It is not suited to surf foiling, wing foiling, lowkite or programmes that require transitions, speed build-up at low speed or manoeuvrability.

Its use in downwind is still technically possible, but of limited relevance. It offers very little control during take-offs, slowdowns and changes of line.

What size?

The choice depends mainly on the Front Wing, the rider's weight and their ability to control very low rear foot pressure.

A large Ultra Trail keeps more presence at low speed and makes take-off and speed build-up slightly easier. It does, however, increase drag.

A smaller size reduces resistance even further and frees up the Front Wing more, but makes pitch and cadence extremely technical.

The smallest size only performs if the rider can stay high, stable and perfectly consistent for the entire duration of the effort.

A Tail Wing that is too small can require more corrections, cause a loss of height and ultimately increase the foil setup's overall drag.

Choose the smallest size you can control without degrading your cadence or pitch. Be careful, it is already very small.

What setup?

The Ultra Trail is offered exclusively in an Upper architecture.

It can be mounted on a Carbon Tail with its matching Upper wedge, or on an Upper Tail Shaft paired with an Upper Shim Tail.

It cannot be mounted on a Lower Tail Shaft or on a Lower Shim Tail.

The reference setup uses a Medium Tail Shaft and a 0° Upper Shim Tail. It offers the best balance between efficiency, longitudinal stability and control.

The Long Tail Shaft is a particularly relevant option for extreme endurance and record attempts.

What does the 0° Shim Tail mean?

The 0° Shim Tail keeps the reference incidence calculated for the Ultra Trail.

It does not mean that the Tail Wing is horizontal relative to the fuselage. Its native incidence is built directly into its carbon base.

The + sign indicates that the Shim Tail raises the Tail Wing's leading edge. Its incidence decreases, which reduces rear lift and front foot pressure.

A negative number lowers the Tail Wing's leading edge. Its incidence increases, which adds lift, front foot pressure and drag.

0° is the best starting point before making any changes.

Which angle should you choose?

Start with a 0° Upper Shim Tail.

The -0.5° adds slightly more front foot pressure and support during take-off or speed loss. It does, however, reduce some of the absolute efficiency being sought.

More negative angles move strongly away from the Ultra Trail's intended programme and cancel out part of the benefit of its minimalist profile.

The +1° frees up the Front Wing even more and reduces front foot pressure. This setting is extremely demanding and reserved for riders capable of maintaining perfect cadence and pitch.

The freest setting only performs if you can exploit it for the full duration of the effort.

What Tail Shaft length?

The Medium Tail Shaft is the Ultra Trail's reference setup.

It offers the best compromise between longitudinal stability, pitch control and efficiency.

The Long Tail Shaft stabilises the foil setup more, smooths out height variations and allows a slower, more progressive cadence. It is particularly well suited to very long distances and duration records.

The Short Tail Shaft reduces longitudinal stability and makes the foil setup extremely lively. It moves strongly away from the Ultra Trail's intended programme and is not recommended.

Tail Shaft length also changes the Tail Wing's position within the Front Wing's flow. This effect exists, but remains secondary compared with the change in wheelbase.

Which Front Wing?

The Ultra Trail Front Wing is the reference pairing.

This combo maximises efficiency, speed retention and the distance covered between pumps. In return, it demands perfect technique and excellent physical condition.

With a Supra Trail Front Wing, the Ultra Trail Tail Wing reduces drag even further and makes the foil setup more radical. It allows you to chase more distance at the cost of a major drop in support and forgiveness.

With a Hyper Trail Front Wing, it turns the foil setup into a very glidy combo, but one that is not very coherent with the Hyper's dynamic and manoeuvrable programme. This pairing remains reserved for a very specific efficiency goal.

It can technically work with other Front Wings, but its very low support and minimal manoeuvrability will always orient the foil setup towards straight-line pumping and pure performance.

Why is it so demanding?

The Ultra Trail removes almost everything that usually brings comfort at low speed: surface area, camber, support and forgiveness.

This reduction is precisely what lowers drag and makes it possible to reach extreme efficiency once the foil setup is up to speed.

The rider therefore has to generate all the flight stability themselves through cadence, pitch and height management.

The slightest mistake immediately results in a loss of speed that is difficult to recover. This demanding nature is the direct price of its absolute efficiency.

How should you progress with the settings?

Start with an Ultra Trail Front Wing, a Medium Tail Shaft, a 0° Shim Tail and a Tail Wing size that you control perfectly.

Test this setup for long enough to understand its very low front foot pressure, its natural cadence and its margin at low speed.

Then only change one parameter at a time between Tail Wing size, Tail Shaft length, Shim Tail and foil position in the boxes.

The Long Tail Shaft is often the first relevant step for long attempts, because it increases stability without changing the Tail Wing's incidence.

Above all, aim for perfectly clean pitch and a repeatable cadence. Any further drag reduction is only useful if it can be maintained for the full duration of the effort.

Compatibility

The Ultra Trail Tail Wing is exclusively Upper.

It works with:

  • a compatible Carbon Tail and its matching Upper wedge;
  • a V3 Upper Tail Shaft and a V3 Upper Shim Tail;
  • a Micro V3 Atmo Upper Tail Shaft and a Micro V3 Atmo Upper Shim Tail.

V3 and Micro V3 Atmo Tail Shafts and Shim Tails are not interchangeable on the fuselage side.

The Tail Wing remains compatible with both diameters thanks to its standard footprint. You must use the Tail Shaft and Shim Tail suited to the fuselage diameter.

It cannot be mounted on a Lower Tail Shaft, a Lower Shim Tail or a Lower wedge.

It is the Tail Wing for experts who want to turn every pump into distance and every session into a record attempt.

It is the tail wing for highly experienced foilers who want to maximise their pump foiling performance
