A SUP downwinder to remember on the Veloce DW and LW V3 Atmo.

What started as a simple ride home turned into more than 40 km of SUP foil downwind, from the open waters off Hoedic all the way to Pornichet next to our home base. With no real swell in the forecast and only little wind to generate bumps to work with, Louis and Valentin from the GONG staff, went for big foils and set off for what would become their longest downwinder yet.

The run took them past the Plateau du Four lighthouse and Le Croisic before rounding Penchâteau and entering the Bay of La Baule. As the kilometers piled up, pumping became harder, the bumps eventually faded, and the final stretch turned into a battle against tired legs.

But that’s what downwind is about: connecting bumps, reading the ocean, pushing through fatigue and doing it together. Side by side, waiting for each other and keeping each other safe, Louis and Valentin kept flying toward Pornichet as the sun set over the Atlantic. Forty kilometers later, they came away with one of those sessions that stays with you: alone offshore, gliding for miles, completely immersed in the ocean.
