Francesco Cappuzzo Wins the 2026 World Title as GONG Delivers Another Dominant 1–2 Finish

Three consecutive years. Three World Titles. Three seasons with GONG team riders standing at the very top.
The final stop of the 2026 GWA Wingfoil World Tour in Fuerteventura confirmed what has become a remarkable streak of performance. Francesco Cappuzzo claimed the event victory and the 2026 FreeFly-Slalom World Championship, while teammate Bastien Escofet placed second after a super tight battle at both the event and in the overall rankings.
For the third year in a row, GONG finishes the FreeFly-Slalom season with a World Champion with a 1–2 finish in the overall standings, continuing a level of consistency unmatched on the tour.

A Title Race Until the Final Run

Arriving in Fuerteventura, the men's World Title was still up for grabs. Francesco Cappuzzo and Bastien Escofet were separated by only a handful of points, promising an intense finale at the legendary Sotavento spot.
The opening eliminations immediately delivered.
Francesco looked set for victory in the first elimination before a crash on the final stretch handed the win to Bastien. Tom Pansard answered by taking Elimination 2, but Bastien quickly established himself as the man to beat, winning Eliminations 3 and 4 to head into the Super Final with a valuable bullet already in hand.

Francesco Rises to the Occasion

With the World Championship on the line, every move counted.

After Tom Pansard's campaign ended in the semi-finals, the title came down to Francesco and Bastien.

Bastien controlled much of the opening race, but Francesco found another gear at exactly the right moment, making a decisive tactical move to steal the lead and level the score.

Everything came down to one final race.

When Bastien crashed just after the opening mark, Francesco seized the opportunity and delivered a faultless performance to the finish line, securing both the event victory and the 2026 FreeFly-Slalom World Championship.

Three Years at the Top

The 2026 overall rankings once again showcase Team GONG's strength:

  • Francesco Cappuzzo, 2026 FreeFly-Slalom World Champion
  • Bastien Escofet, Vice World Champion

Three consecutive World Titles.
Three consecutive seasons finishing at least 1–2 overall.

A huge congratulations to Francesco, Bastien and the entire GONG Team, as well as everyone behind the scenes whose work continues to push the level of wingfoil slalom and racing.
