Programme

An ultra high-performance competition shortboard, the Evolt is the supercharged version of the Chemical for small to medium waves. It accelerates instantly, pivots tightly, carves hard and lets you throw down radical surfing in everyday conditions.

Overview

When the waves lack power, it all comes down to your ability to generate speed, pick the right section and place your manoeuvres without losing rhythm. The Evolt is built for exactly that: giving skilled surfers the tools to turn average conditions into truly committed sessions.

It’s a competition shortboard designed for short, weak or imperfect waves, when every metre counts. It gets straight into the action, repositions easily and lets you link manoeuvres with rhythm, even when the wave offers very little room.

The Evolt is not a passive shortboard. It needs to be worked: pump, load up your turns, go looking for speed and put intent into every line. In return, it delivers a very direct feel underfoot, with strong speed build-up, precision and real sharpness through changes of angle.

Not to be confused with the Chemical, which is more accessible and more versatile. The Evolt pushes further in terms of radical performance: it’s livelier, more demanding, more competition-focused, for surfers who want to push their level when the conditions do not naturally give everything away.

Its purpose is clear: to make ordinary waves more usable. Accelerate off just a few pushes, attack a short section, reposition the board without any dead time and keep the intensity all the way to the end of the wave.

It’s the shortboard for surfers who want to give it everything in small to medium conditions. The one you choose to bring more rhythm, more energy and more commitment into every manoeuvre, even when the session is far from perfect.

Shape
OUTLINE

The outline keeps a competition shortboard foundation, with a fine nose, a compact line and surface area designed to stay lively in small to medium conditions. The front end reduces inertia and makes quick direction changes easier.

The main difference is in the tail, with a greater OFO measurement at the tail (the width measured around 30 cm from the back of the shortboard). This extra surface area under the back foot and around the side fins provides more support to generate speed and build speed over short distances.

The whole shape stays balanced: the Evolt retains the precision of a performance shortboard, with more support through the tail to create energy in weaker waves.

ROCKER

The rocker is designed to combine instant speed and radical performance. Under your feet, the curve stays fast enough to generate speed over a short distance and work in small, weak or imperfect waves.

The nose rocker is more pronounced than on a more versatile board. It frees up the front end through turns, lets you load up hard on committed setups, and helps you finish your carves without the nose holding back the line.

At the tail, the exit keeps a direct response. It lets you push hard, initiate quickly and maintain a lively feel through tight combinations.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The bottom shape follows a single concave to double concave to V logic. The very pronounced single concave under the front foot creates lift, delivers instant speed and helps launch the board in weak or short waves.

The double concave in front of the side fins channels the flow and stabilises foot pressure. It brings drive and grip when the surfer pushes hard through turns, despite the shape's very lively character.

From the back foot onwards, the pronounced V frees up the rail-to-rail transition. It makes direction changes easier, speeds up water release and lets you finish moves with more explosiveness and spray.

TAIL

The pure square tail gives a very solid platform under the back foot. Its surface area lets you generate energy quickly, accelerate from the very first pressure points, and maintain drive in waves that do not offer much power.

The square tail's corners deliver an immediate response. The pressure point is clean, direct, and easy to engage for tight pivots, finishing a carve, or building speed hard after a turn.

Despite this very pronounced speed build-up, the tail remains compact enough to keep manoeuvre exits clean. It delivers impact without making the board feel bulky under the back foot.

RAILS

The rails are thin and sharp through the tail to transfer pressure instantly. They deliver the bite needed to attack carves, control speed build-up and keep the board precise through quick angle changes.

Further forward, the rails become rounder to maintain a smooth carve entry. This transition stops the nose from locking in and lets the board stay mobile through committed set-ups.

The overall result is an ultra lively rail-to-rail feel, with enough hold to push hard and enough freedom to throw explosive surfing into tight pockets.

Single Tab connection: simple, direct and solid

The Single Tab system features a single, extended base on each fin. This design creates a solid connection with the fin box, making installation simple, fin changes quick, and power transfer exceptionally direct.

On the water, the benefits are immediate. The board responds instantly, the fins work without unwanted play, and every input translates into drive, grip and control. This is especially valuable on high performance boards, where precise feedback is essential at high speeds and through committed turns.

The Single Tab system also makes it easy to fine tune your setup for different conditions. Changing fin size, template or flex lets you refine the board's feel in just a few moments. It provides a clean, durable and efficient connection, allowing you to unlock the full potential of the shape.

Good to know: Single Tab fin boxes are only compatible with Single Tab fins.

Key benefits:

  • Simple installation and quick fin changes.
  • Direct connection for immediate response underfoot.
  • Excellent drive, grip and control through powerful turns.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Evolt is aimed at advanced to expert surfers looking for a highly reactive competition shortboard for small to medium conditions. It demands active surfing, precise foot pressure and the desire to attack every section, even when the wave is short, weak or imperfect.

It will particularly suit surfers who want more acceleration, more pivot and more radicality than with a versatile performance shortboard. This is a board built to create rhythm, add impact and produce surfing in very little space.

What is it for?

The Evolt is made to perform in everyday small to medium waves, where you need to generate your own speed and fire quickly. Its role is to engage early in the manoeuvre, accelerate over a short distance, tighten carves and link radical moves with maximum response underfoot.

This is the board to pull out when the conditions are not perfect but you still want to surf at 100%. It turns ordinary waves into an explosive playground: less waiting around, fewer long lines, more action, more spray, more speed build-up.

What board size?

Choose the Evolt with a performance mindset. The goal is to keep a lively, precise and very direct board underfoot. Too much volume would add inertia and reduce its ability to pivot tightly, build speed instantly and stay explosive through angle changes.

Stay close to your usual performance shortboard volume if you want to maximise responsiveness and vertical surfing. If your conditions are often weak or very short, you can add a little volume to improve take-off and speed build-up, but without turning the Evolt into a comfort board.

The mistake would be to choose it too big in search of ease. Its value comes from its compact volume, its more generous rear OFO, its square tail and its highly refined bottom shape: all these elements must remain dedicated to short, snappy and radical surfing.

What are the ideal waves?

The Evolt performs best in small to medium waves, from knee to waist high up to a solid head high. It loves short waves that need to be surfed quickly, sometimes imperfect, where you need to accelerate fast and place your manoeuvres without waiting for a long shoulder.

It makes less sense in powerful, very hollow or fast waves, where an Atomic or a Lethal will bring more hold and control at high speed. The Evolt is made to attack sections, tighten carves and create impact in the conditions you get most often.

Which construction?

The Evolt really comes into its own with a construction that highlights liveliness, immediate response and speed build-up. In its programme, light weight and dynamism are essential to generate speed quickly, change angle without inertia and keep a very lively feel underfoot.

An EPS construction is therefore particularly well suited to its character: more responsiveness, more spring and a more direct feel in small to medium waves. It helps the board react quickly to compression and turn foot pressure into usable speed.

Which fin set-up?

The Evolt is designed as a thruster Single Tab. This set-up is the most consistent with its programme: a very lively, explosive and radical board, made to accelerate quickly, pivot tightly and keep control through fast combinations.

On the Evolt, the fins need to channel the shape's liveliness without killing it. You need to find the right balance between pivot, grip, speed build-up and control. A set that is too loose will make the board more playful but may lack hold when you push hard through turns. A set with too much grip will bring more stability, but may reduce the Evolt's ability to pivot tightly and finish manoeuvres explosively.

The Round set is the most balanced choice. It blends speed, control, pivot and drive in an even way. This is the fin to choose if you want to keep the Evolt composed, precise and versatile, with enough speed build-up for small to medium conditions.

The Leap set is even more neutral and fluid. It makes transitions easier, makes the board very easy to place and keeps the feel clear underfoot. It is a good option if you want a smoother, less demanding Evolt while still keeping a real performance feel.

The Power set is more upright, with lots of pivot and immediate response under the back foot. It is the most logical choice to emphasise the Evolt's radical side: turn tight, get back under the lip quickly, tighten carves and push a more vertical surfing style.

The Project set is deeper, with lots of grip. It will be interesting if you want to secure your foot pressure, push hard through turns and keep more hold when the wave gets faster or more powerful.

The Wall set has plenty of rake, with lots of drive and excellent line hold. It will suit surfers who want to lengthen their carves a little, gain more support and keep more speed through open sections.

The Liner set is projection-oriented, with more dynamic flex and a real speed build-up feel out of turns. It is a very consistent option with the Evolt if you want to emphasise speed, spring and linking manoeuvres in clean waves.

To sum it up simply: Round for balance, Leap for ease, Power for pivot, Project for grip, Wall for drive, Liner for projection. The right set is the one that respects the Evolt's character: an explosive, fast and radical board, made to turn every section into a manoeuvring opportunity.

Which shape should you choose?

Evolt or Chemical?

The Chemical is a very efficient performance shortboard for small to medium waves. It generates speed, pivots well and remains more accessible day to day.

The Evolt takes that foundation and pushes everything further: more acceleration, more pivot, more radicality, more projection. It is the supercharged Chemical, designed for surfers who want a more competition-oriented and more explosive board.

Choose the Chemical if you want a very efficient, lively performance board that is easier to get the most out of in everyday conditions. Choose the Evolt if you want more radicality, more response and more committed surfing in small waves.

Evolt or Lethal?

The Lethal is better suited to quality waves, hollow faces and powerful carves in conditions with push. It makes more sense when the wave naturally provides speed and lets you tighten your lines under the lip.

The Evolt is aimed at different terrain: small to medium waves, weaker or shorter, where you need to generate speed and create impact in little space.

Choose the Lethal if you surf more hollow and more powerful waves. Choose the Evolt if your sessions are often small, medium or imperfect, and you want to surf radically despite the lack of power.

Evolt or Atomic?

The Atomic is a competition board for powerful, hollow waves. It delivers lots of grip, drive and control at high speed, with a programme geared towards solid barrels and committed carves.

The Evolt is made for small to medium conditions. It is less about grip at very high speed and more about instant acceleration, tight pivot and the ability to link radical moves in little space.

Choose the Atomic if your goal is to charge powerful, hollow waves. Choose the Evolt if you want to score in everyday small to medium waves, with an explosive and modern board.

Evolt or a more versatile board?

A more versatile board will be more forgiving, easier and often more comfortable across a wide range of conditions.

The Evolt is more focused. It is not trying to do everything: it wants to accelerate quickly, pivot tightly, tighten carves and surf radically in small to medium waves.

Choose a more versatile board if you want ease and margin for error. Choose the Evolt if you want a sharper, livelier and higher-performing board within its specific programme.

Frequent questions
Who is the Evolt for?

The Evolt is aimed at advanced to expert surfers looking for an ultra high-performance competition shortboard for small to medium waves. It’s a lively, radical and highly responsive board, built for active surfers who want to generate serious speed, pivot tight, carve hard and throw modern moves in very little space.

What kind of waves does the Evolt perform best in?

It performs at its best in small to medium waves, weak, short or imperfect, from knee to waist high up to a solid overhead. It sits at the lower end of the Chemical’s range: conditions where you need to generate your own speed and still lay down proper surfing even when the wave offers very little.

What is the difference between the Evolt and the Chemical?

The Chemical is a highly efficient, lively and accessible performance shortboard in small to medium waves. The Evolt is its boosted-up version: more radical, more explosive, more competition-oriented. It accelerates harder, turns tighter and demands a more committed approach to surfing to unlock its full potential.

Why does the Evolt accelerate so quickly?

Its acceleration comes in particular from its boosted rear OFO, its pure square tail and its highly refined bottom shape. The extra width around the fins and under the back foot brings more lift and responsiveness. The result: the board gets going fast, builds speed instantly and generates speed over a short distance.

What is the role of the square tail on the Evolt?

The square tail brings drive, lift and direct response under the back foot. It helps generate speed in small conditions and gives you the support you need to finish moves with impact. The tail still stays compact enough to keep a clean turn exit and stop the board from feeling cumbersome.

Why is the nose rocker more pronounced?

The more pronounced nose rocker frees up the front end through turns and committed setups. It lets you load up a carve, tighten the radius and come back vertical without the nose catching and blocking the line. It’s a key part of the Evolt’s highly radical character.

What is the role of the single / double / V bottom?

The very pronounced single concave under the front foot generates speed and lift. The double concave in front of the side fins channels the flow and stabilises foot pressure. The pronounced V starting from the back foot frees up rail-to-rail transitions, makes pivoting easier and optimises water release. That’s what gives it this ultra lively, instinctive feel.

Which fin setup should you use on the Evolt?

The Evolt is designed around a Single Tab thruster setup. This complete setup delivers the right balance of pivot, hold and control to harness a board that is extremely lively and highly drivey. A set with less rake or less surface area will free up the tail more in small waves. A set with more rake or more surface area will provide more hold if you really push through your turns.
